Ian climbed out and stood behind Kay. He looked around.
They had landed on a part of an island mostly untouched by the fire. But farther away, several natives were picking up sticks and debris where the fire had been at its strongest. Several natives were walking around with large mud jars, apparently filled with water, looking for remaining sparks. It seemed they had gotten the fire out quickly, and it occurred to Ian that they probably had to do that quite a lot.
Diaper Man went over to the nearest native and said something in gibberish to him, then indicated the group. The other native looked at the kids excitedly, but Diaper Man said something else, and the other native's face became more serious and reverent as he looked at Emily.
Emily plucked a leaf off a nearby tree. She carried it over to Rhys, who was still nearby Rosalyn.
Rhys quietly accepted the leaf from Emily though he wasn't exactly sure how to treet Rosalyns burns. He decided to try wetting the leaf and laying on top of some of the worst burns. There was nothing else he felt he could do so he held his breath and waited to see what would happen.
AFter a while Rosalyn became conscious of a burning sensation in her right leg, side, and arm. She cried out and sat bolt upright, finding herself on an unfamiliar part of the island. "what's going on?" she started to say, but the pain made the words come out as a groan.
"It's ok, we're back on an island and the fire isn't raging anymore." Emily told Rosalyn. "We're with some natives that seem friendly."
Rhys remained quiet when Rosalyn woke up. though he was relieved that she was awake he still didn't know what else to do about her burns. he felt his eyebrows come togeather inn concentration.
Rosalyn looked down at her body and almost passed out again. She looked terrible....and something was oozing out of her burns. "it's the infection," someone murmured but she didn't know who because this time she really did pass out again.
