The kitten was already asleep by the time the other male got the light turned off. He was just too exhausted to stay awake any longer. And the warmth of the human he was next to and bed he was in allowed him to rest in a decent manner. Usually Aiden woke up with nightmares screaming or if he was a cat meowing. Not tonight though. Tonight the small kitten curled up beside the stranger and didn’t wake.
Sometime during the night Aiden lost the focus of his form. He became so dry and warm the small kitten shifted back to his human form. The boy that was in the kitten’s place was petite and still deathly thin. His hair was still snow white and on top were adorable little cat ears. His clothes were tattered and dirty on his skinny body. Aiden’s cat tail matched the color of his hair and ears and was wrapped around the stranger’s calf when he shifted.
Aiden’s hair and fur were the odd color of white because he was still frightened. A scared expression occupied Aiden’s face even in his sleep. The body that Aiden possessed was quivering beside the stranger as he clung to him. His slender hands curled around the other male’s shirt as if he were a frightened child. The boy just looked like he was a mess and clearly in trouble. Definitely living on the streets.
At exactly six in the morning, Ash's alarm went off. He groaned; that had to be the most annoying sound in the world. His hand finally reached the snooze button and hit it hard, accidentally knocking the clock to the floor, making him curse loudly. He was still half-asleep though, and rolled over to snuggle into whatever was laying right next to him.
Laying right next to him..?
"What the--" Ash jerked back, catching himself on the sheets before falling off the bed. "What... where... Who are you?!" Some homeless guy in his bed, with cat ears... Where was that cat? "How did you get in here?"
Sometime during the boys' slumber Aiden's hair had faded black to its natural black color. He had snuggled his face into the other male's side and clung to him. Anyone from the outside would have thought the two were just a cute ga.y couple sleeping. Only neither of the boys knew Aiden had shifted.
When Aiden heard a scream he jumped, his eyes snapping opening. "What? huh?" Aiden looked all around seeing the male from the night before on the carpeted floor. "What? I-" Aiden then realized he was no longer a kitten and was speaking. In an instinctual habit Aiden jumped off the bed in a cat like pounce and curled in the nearby corner. "I'm s-sorry." the half feline whispered. "I-I... P-Please d-don't hurt m-me." It was clear Aiden was terrified from the way his ears went flat on his head and from his stammer.
Patches of fur popped up all over Aiden's body in attempt to faze. He was took weak and stressed though so he became an inbetween creature with ears, a tail, and fur patches. His hair and the fur changed from black to white out of fear as he trembled in the corner of the bedroom.
Ash was still breathing hard as he carefully stood up, running a hand through his bedhead. "I... you..." He shook his head. This had to be some kind of weird dream. Right? There was no way this was real...
"I'm... I'm not going to hurt you, okay?" Ash took a deep breath, cautiously stepping toward the... boy... cat... whatever. "But who are you? What are you? Obviously not some normal human kid..."
The poor guy looked so terrified... Which was probably sort of expected, considering he'd just been startled awake in some stranger's bed. Ash eyed the boy warily as he knelt in front of him. "You okay?"
Aiden's cheeks had whiskers and his nose was moving in a sniffing motion which was from sickness and was cat like. He trembled even more when feeling the stranger come closer. "I-I'm sorry." he whimpered in a small voice.
Slowly the half feline raised his head to look at the other male. Aiden's eyes looked almost identical to the kitten's. "I-I'm A-Aiden." he whispered. Aiden looked like he was around sixteen or seventeen when in reality he was twenty. "I-I'm sorry. Pl-Please d-don't... D-Don't h-hurt me." he repeated flinching away from the gaze of the stranger.
"Aiden," Ash repeated, trying it out with a nod. He debated moving closer to the strange boy-cat-creature, but decided against it; no need to freak Aiden out even more.
He stood up, sighing softly. "Like I said, I'm not going to hurt you. At least, not intentionally..." He shrugged, smirking. "Possibly on accident. I don't know." Ugh, he was just making this worse... "Okay. Well. Um, I'm going to go get breakfast, so... Want something to eat..?"
Aiden swallowed hard trying not to tremble so visibly. "Y-You mean... Y-You d-don't want m-me t-to leave?" every time Aiden spoke it was a whisper. "I'm s-sorry." he apologized for the third time. "I d-didn't m-mean to d-deceive y-you." he stared up at the male, still not knowing his name, with large innocent eyes.
Ash shrugged. "You can leave if you want, I guess, I don't care. You're allowed to stay though. As long as you don't tear anything up or try to kill me or steal anything." This kid really was cute, wasn't he... Ash forced the thought away. They's just met, after all. "I'm Ash, by the way. Are you coming to eat or not?"
"O-Okay.." Aiden whispered and shakily stood up. His torn long sleeved shirt was open showing his ribs. "W-What are y-you m-making?" Aiden asked Ash, wrapping his arms around himself. He couldn't help to look down at his feet and feel scared of Ash. Aiden was scared of everyone and everything.
"Making?" Ash led the way out of the room, down the hall, and into the kitchen. "I was just going to make cereal, since I'm in a hurry, but..." He glanced up at the clock; oh, whatever. He was going to be late anyway. "How about pancakes? Haven't had those in a while... You can go sit down, if you don't wan tto help. Up to you."
Aiden winced at the question. He hoped he hadn't offended Ash. "No. C-Ceral is f-fine if you need t-to go." Aiden said following Ash with caution. He kept his arms wrapped around himself as he sat down at the table. "I do l-love milk." he admitted watching Ash with a fearful face. Anyone who was paying attention would see the coinsedence in Aiden liking milk. He was after all half cat.
Ash had to smirk; of course a cat would prefer the choice with the most milk in it. "Alright then," he said with a little laugh, finding two bowls, two spoons, milk, and the Lucky Charms. He quickly fixed up both bowls of cereal, and brought them both to the table, setting one in front of Aiden. "Hmm..." He sat down, finally noticing the boy's clothes as he sat down. "Well you can't go out in that..."
Aiden chewed on his lower lip watching Ash closely the entire time he prepared their cereal. "Thank you." he managed to not stammer his time. Instead of using a spoon Aiden got on his hands and feet in the chair and started eating the cereal like a cat. He purred very quietly as the milk ran down his throat. Aiden didn't mean to act so strange; he just wasn't used to acting human. Plus Aiden was naive and all.
When Ash said something about Aiden's attire the half feline stopped lapping up the milk in the bowl. "W-What do y-you mean?" he whispered looking across the table at Ash. "I... I don't n-need to go anywhere unt-til I l-leave for g-good."
"What are you doing?" Ash asked with an amused smile. Aiden was getting milk all over the place... Sighing, Ash got up and went to the kitchen, and came back with a towel. "Here..." He gently tilted the boy's face up toward him, and began carefully wiping the milk off his face before wiping off the table as well. "You have to use a spoon or you'll make a mess."
At the mention of Aiden leaving, though, Ash frowned a little. Who would want someone so adorable to leave? "Well..." he murmured, sitting down once again and twisting his spoon in his cereal. "When do you want to leave?"
Aiden didn't notice he had been getting milk all over until Ash said something. "Oh goodness! I am so sorry!" he said quickly cringing away when Ash tried to touch him. He had expected for Ash to hit him or start beating on him but then it didn't happen. "I'm sorry. I'm n-not used t-to using a sp-spoon." Aiden whispered letting Ash clean off his face.
"I... I don't know. I sh-should g-go soon." Aiden admitted. He didn't want to put Ash in danger and he knew Vaughn's spies would find him if he didn't keep moving. "I just... I'm sorry." he ended up saying again even though he hadn't done anything.
((I didn't mention this... But Aiden has other friends who I'll switch to. Like I'll still be Aiden but there will be other points of view. Is that a problem?))
"Don't worry, it's okay." Ash waved it off; it was only an accident. Not some crazy life-death situation. "You don't have to apologise if you haven't done anything wrong. It's alright."
Soon? Ash kept his eyes down at his cereal. When was the last time someone had been over to his place? And now that someone really was here, he had to go so quickly... "Well, I guess we'll have to find you some new clothes soon, then." He was probably running late... Ah well. He could skip today.
[That's okay! Not a problem at all ]
Aiden managed to give a small smile. He finished up his cereal within the next five minutes because he hadn't eaten in so long. "Thank you again." he said feeling a little guilty. He wished he could repay Ash somehow. "Oh no you've already done so much Ash. I couldn't ask you for anything more." Aiden told Ash with a soft expression. "I... I should probably go now." Aiden stood touching his ears. He didn't know where his hat had gotten to so he'd have to go out as a cat.
"Wait, wait," Ash said quickly, standing up as well. You can't go out in that! You'll freeze!" What was this kid thinking? "I don't know if my clothes will fit you, but... we can at least try, can't we?" He held out a hand toward Aiden, smiling faintly. "At least let me do that for you. Please?" He could at least stay a little longer...
Aiden jumped when Ash spoke in such a sudden way. He cringed expecting a smack but he was yet again surprised when nothing came. "Y-You don't unders-stand." Aiden whispered looking at the floor. "I-If I st-stay too l-long you'll b-be in d-danger."
Suddenly there was a pounding on the door making Aiden jump, the hair on the back of his neck standing on end. "Oh n-no. You n-need to go upst-stairs. H-Hide. Please." he whispered looking over at the front door. He already knew who was there and it made him shift into his animal form. Aiden turned snow white with fear as he stared at the door.
Danger? Ash was about to laugh at that when he heard someone knock on the door. A little too loudly for his taste. And suddenly, there was no more Aiden; just the tiny cat from before in his place.
He kept silent, suspicious; who would come to his house this early in the morning? With a small sigh, he picked up Aiden and quietly went back to his bedroom, setting the kitten on the bed and drawing the curtains shut before sitting on the bed next to him. "What's wrong?" he whispered, gently stroking the kitten's fur.
