Isabelle was completely lost now. And rather humiliated. What right did this peasant have, laughing at a princess for no reason?
"I don't understand..." she said finally, looking totally confused. "What's so amusing to you, Corban..? Did I do something funny?" She sighed; this boy had a strange sense of humor.
"Yes, you did." Corban replied without explanation. "Well, come on. No point standing around and waiting for them to come to us."
Rin rolled her eyes up at the sky in exasperation, then turned and headed down the path.
Isabelle nodded, though she was still a little embarrassed. What had she done that made Corban laugh? Though it was sort of nice, considering how serious he normally was.
She followed that best she could, her small fingers gripping Corban's sleeve so she couldn't lose him.
Rin was right: the path widened considerably as they hiked. Within an hour, it had gone from being three feet wide in good spots to being twenty or more. There was evidence of light traffic, and it was almost looking like a dirt road now. It was also getting warmer, and lighter as the skies began to be tinged with pink.
There were more trees here, too, and Rin headed for a dense patch of trees and shrubbery. In just a few seconds, she had efficiently removed several large branches off of a bright orange and green jeep. There were numerous scratches and dings in the paint.
Rin got in and Corban followed, limping.
((I've got to go to bed, goodnight!))
Isabelle tilted her head, studying the orange and green thing curiously. What the heck was it? She was hesitant to approach it, but she finally did, coming forward and lightly brushing her fingers along the cold, metal surface.
"What is this?" she asked, grinning up at Katherine and Corban, in total awe. "Is this like a carriage? Oh, but there's no horses... Did they run away? How are we supposed to get anywhere without the horses attached to the carriage? I, for one, am not pulling it. I suppose you two can..."
Rin rolled her eyes again and started the engine. "It doesn't need horses." She answered simply.
"Don't worry," Corban added, "It'll work as long as you don't eat it."
Isabelle jumped and was close to screaming as the thingy roared to life out of nowhere. "I-It doesn't like me..." she hissed, glancing up at couple inside with wide eyes as she carefully began backing away. Obviously this was not a creature to be messed with.
((My internet is screwy right now, so I might just disappear...))
Corban groaned. He should have known it wouldn't be this easy. "It likes you fine, just get in. It won't hurt you if you're inside. Or would you rather stay here with the guys with the guns...?"
[Ah, alright then ]
"I don't know what guns are either..." Isabelle muttered, mostly to herself. Why did Corban always make her feel stupid? She inched around to the side of the huge metal thing, eyeing it warily as she found what looked like a door. Carefully, she tried the handle, and... Yes! She quickly hopped inside and shut the door.
((I had to post that last one a bazillion times, and I think I may have just emailed someone twice. >_< I hate my internet sometimes.))
Rin took off almost imediately after Isabelle got in, muttering to herself quietly. She drove much faster than anyone sane would consider safe, and it wasn't long before she found the paved roads.
"So..." She started, glancing backwards at Isabelle, "What the he.ll were you doing, anyway?"
[Oh goodness o_o That's somewhat bizzarre... ]
"Um..." What the h.ell was she doing? Isabelle didn't know how to answer, and it was a little hard to think while being jerked around by a crazy driver, fingers gripping the edge of the seat tightly.
"I, um... What do you mean, exactly?" she asked, tilting her head just slightly.
Rin's fingers waved in the air as if it was a stupid question. "On the mountain. What were you doing on the mountain."
She slowed down considerably as they rounded a bend, knowing that there would be a sheriff patrol car parked in the dirt next to the road there.
"Well... I really don't know," Isabelle admitted, sighing in relief as they began to slow down. Thank goodness... "I woke up in a cave thing full of treasures, and Corban was there, and I panicked, and he started leading me down... But then it got dark, so he made a camp, and he fell asleep, and some bad people came." She paused to take a breath. "And then Corban hurt his ankle, and there was blood, and then we met you."
((Really sorry I haven't been on, I've been busy again. My mom got back from California and I've been cleaning and cooking (she's on a diet, so she's been trying new recipes), and I've got birthday stuff to plan and a hat to make...Anywho, I probably won't be on tomorrow, because it's my birthday, and I really need to finish the hat Friday, and my party is on Saturday and there's a booksigning Sunday. I'll try to get on Monday though. :) ))
Rin's dark, spiky head whipped to the side quickly, her multitude of piercings flashing in the rising sun. "You hurt your ankle? Of course you did." Her focus turned back to the road and, out of sight from the patrol, she sped up again.
"Klutz. Anyway, treasure? Where is it?" Rin had known Corban for years; she knew he would never leave a place full of valubles empty-handed.
"Erm...I dunno." Corban mumbled, causing her to roll her eyes again.
[Oh, that's okay! I've been getting on at rather weird hours lately anyway -_- So it's okay. Glad you're back though :D ]
"It's in a cave," Isabelle answered for him. Surely he hadn't forgotten already... Maybe he hit his head when he fell? Oh goodness, that would mean he had a concussion, and he needed a doctor, and... "Not too horribly high up, I suppose. Corban, I figured you would have remembered something like that... Wasn't the treasure what you were in there for anyway?"
((I got the weirdest presents ever this year. XD The weirdest of which were a box, a pair of pliers, an empty cardboard box...))
Corban gave Isabelle an irritated look. "Of course I remember where the cave is, it's just..." He trailed off, glancing back at Rin, then sighed.
"In all probability, Nolan's guys have found it by now."
Rin's face darkened with anger. "We can't just let them keep a whole cave full of treasure!"
"And that's why I wasn't going to mention it..." Corban muttered, then said, louder, "We can't stop them. Not now."
[Ohmygosh xD ]
Isabelle chewed on her lower lip, not knowing what to say. Why did it always seem like Corban hated everything that came out of her mouth..? That didn't seem very fair. She kept quiet anyway, not wanting to get on the bad side of the only people that were helping her get somewhere. Only now she was starving... That tiny little bar thing Corban had given her earlier hadn't lasted long.
Rin opened her mouth to retort, and Corban interrupted her. "Subject change!" he called loudly, then turned to look at Isabelle, "Where are you heading, anyway?"
Rin looked annoyed at first, but then, realizing she wanted to know the answer to this too, let the treasure problem drop.
"Um... well..." Isabelle looked down at her hands which were folded in her lap. "To be honest... I really have no idea," she admitted, her tone quite lacking of any hope. "I mean... I just want to go home... And I was hoping that's where you were going to take me, but then you said the date was different, so... I might be in an entirely different country by now..."
