"It doesn't matter." Lydia said as she closed her eyes. "I could offend anyone I want, and right now, they wouldn't be able to do squat." Thale wanted her to himself, she knew that at least. Nothin was going to happen until he saw her.

"True enough."Issac admitted. For a moment, he was quiet, before he said in a soft voice,"Goodnight, Lydia."

( Do you want to skip a day or something?)

(Yeah that's fine :) )

Dawn came quickly enough. Issac was true to his word; he hadn't even fallen asleep. The bags beneath his eyes were enough evidence, and he stood up, stretching.
"How was she?"A guard came in, looking gruff and mean. Issac shrugged.
"She was fine to me." He admitted truthfully."Slept most of the night. Speaking of sleep,"Issac yawned,"I'm going to go get myself some."
"Hmph. Fine. The trial will be soon, and you might want to see it."A hint of glee snuck his way on the mans voice."Reckon she'll get killed on front of the whole kingdom." Ossac blinked, before nodding.
"Right. I'll ah...keep that in mind." He turned around, shaking his head. Man, sometimes people were so sick. Besides, he didn't really want Lydia to die...even if she might of been crazy.

Lydia sat up and shrugged off the blanket, instantly awake when the sun rose. Issac was leaving.
So there was a set time? Of course, no one had bothered to tell her. What did it matter? Her schedule was open. She chocked her head at the new guard and smiled in fake politeness. "Good morning to you, too."

The guard hardly looked in Lydia's direction; rather, he spat near the ground at her. It was enough to make Issac hesitate. Man, if he only had the power of not needing sleep...He shook his head, before continuing on his way. What was with him? Why did he think so strongly about a prisoner, of all people?
He made it to his house quickly enough. His older brother didn't live with them anymore, while his father was no doubt working in the bakery this early in the morning. His sister, however, laid on their couch (did they even have couches in the medevial days? Lol) softly asleep. Her black curls were a mess, and Issac softly smiled. Alice always waited for him, even if she ended up falling asleep anyways...
Gently, he lifted her up. She murmured in her sleep, her sightless eyes peeking open.
"Issac? Is that you?"She mumbled sleepily, clutching onto his shirt and burrowing her face into his chest. Her curls tickled his nose.
"Yeah, it's me."He reassured in a whisper, setting her down in her own bed."Silly girl, trying to stay awake all night."

((Hmm, I think they did. :p Obviously, the were different then though...))

Lydia watched Issac go before glancing back at the other guard, wondering if it was fun to be that rude. She thought about it for a minute, then decided, yes. It was fun if the other person was annoying you.
Might as well have some fun. "You missed a bit." She pointed at a bit of spittle that had clung to the man's beard. "Really, didn't your mother teach you how to keep yourself clean?"

"You sound tired."Alice fretted, a worry line forming on her forehead. Issac chuckled, snuggling in next to his little sister. It was true; he was exhausted. He would have to get used to staying up all night.
"That's because I am."He saw no point in lying to her. Alice always caught a lie, anyways."So shush, so we can both go to sleep."Issac replied, yawning. He heard Alice giggle before she snuggled next to him and promptly fell asleep.

The guard scowled heavily, his brown eyes burning with disgust.
"Maybe I should get Issac on full time."He mumbled to himself, before turning around. He was no succumbing to her bait.

(Should we go back to night then, as a second night, or what? I don't mind :) )

((Or when King Thale decides to talk to her...? We could probably get Issac in there. :) That would have to be in the afternoon, or evening so he could get some sleep.))

Lydia tsked, "Lazy, too. I should talk with your parents."

(Do you want to control the king? Because I'm fine with skipping right to that part :) )

Issac awoke to the smell of bread, and a slight tickle on the bottom of his foot. He smiled crookedly, still in the half haze of sleep.
"Cut it out."He mumbled in a smile, digging his face into the nearest pillow. A giggle came from his ankles.
"And so our night guard awakes."Came his father's humorous voice. Issac yawned, slowly sitting up. Alice eagerly crawled up to him, her unseeing eyes tilted up to his face.
"Papa says something big is going to happen in the square tonight. Something with the king!"Alice explained, and it was enough to make Issac wake up. Lydia. Why was he so worried? Maybe because she might be get killed? He gulped, and was lucky Alice was too distracted by her hunger to notice his muscles stiffen under her touch.
"You should go, son."His father added."You are the guard, aren't you?"

((Sure. :) ))

The door to Lydia's cage was yanked open loudly and she was pulled out, rough hands grasping her arms. She just barely managed to duck in time to keep from hitting her head on the cage.
There was a crowd. It looked like the whole populace had turned up. The were jeering, several shouting suggestions as to what her fate should be, others throwing rocks and food.
She ignored them. They were just ignorant. She'd me mad if someone betrayed her people. The guards surrounding her led her into a small courthouse, much to the dissapointment of the citizens.
Someone forced her to her knees in the center of the room, and she stayed there, waiting for the king to arrive.

"Yeah, I better."Issac replied evenly, even though his stomach was uneasy. But why, why, why? Why would their great king Thale go through such measures for just a crazy girl? Surely she could be dealt with doctors...unless what she was saying might be actually...
"I want to come, I want to come!"Alice was chanting, and Issac sat across from her, frowning. He exchanged a glance with his father, who shrugged. It wasn't like she'd see anything...
Before long, Issac had joined the square, holding Alice tightly in his arms. She caught on quickly on the quietness, and he was kind of impressed on her lack of questions. She must of been dying to know what was going on...

Issac then caught sight of Lydia. She was on a raised platform, waiting. She looked even skinnier in the daylight.

Lydia caught Issac's gaze as he entered, carrying a girl she assumed to be his sister. The one he was so determined to cure.
Her eyes snapped away, however, when the king entered and took his seat. She couldn't help it, a small smile emerged briefly when she saw that he was a tad wider around the middle than he had been last time she'd seem him.
Now that Thale was here, a stocky man beside him began to list the charges before she even realized he was doing so, "...Robbery of His Majesty the King's gold, murder of an unconfirmed number of His soldiers, attack of caravans, conspiring against the Kingdom, and an attempted assasination of His Royal Majesty. What is your plead?"
Lydia straightened, her eyes on the king, and adressed him directly, "Guilty as charged."

Issac didn't know why he felt...uncomfortable. Even more so as all of the charges were read out loud. Surely Ludia couldn't of had done that much...

"Guiltly as charged."Issac muttered incredolously under his breath. So it was true, all of those things!? Lydia even had the nerve to look him straight in the eye, unflinching!
"It sounds like she's confessing."Alice replied in a thoughtful whisper. She was listening very intently, Issac assumed. Probably could hear every single thing...
"She's crazy."Issac said to himself, before biting his lips. What were they going to do now? Kill her? They couldn't. Could they?

The king scowled at her, but she didn't look away. There was muttering around the room; a traitor, a criminal, looking the king in the eyes was unheard of.
Thale stroked his auburn beard and spoke, "The penalty for your crimes is death. Are you willing to negotiate for a lesser sentence?"
Lydia's face remainded impassive, and her voice was cool in her answer, "Be clear."
There was a colletive gasp among the guards and onlookers, and Thale straightened, visibly shocked and angry. The guard next to her struck her across the face, hard, before Thale spoke again, "You dare to order me?"
Lydia ran her tongue along the new cut on the inside of her cheek, tasting blood. "I would like to know what I am negotiating."
He seemed on the verge of standing, but he remained seated. "Information on your accomplaces."
"No." The answer came quickly, and without hesitation.
"Very well. You are sentenced to death by hanging in one week's time."

There were two times Issac felt himself take in a sharp gasp. The first, when Lydia was slapped. Seeing someone like her hit, harmed in any way...It made his skin boil. Even if it was the King, he wanted to step in between Lydia and anything that was going to hurt her. The revelation struck him with a startling clarity.

The second time he gasped--this one was more out of painful shock, than anything--was her sentence. Death? Death in a week? It froze Issac's insides. Completely and utterly so. It terrified him.

"She doesn't sound bad."Alice sighed against her brother's chest, her curls tickling his nose again. People were already killing around now, talking among themselves of disgust or what not. Issac swallowed before he managed a reply.

"No, no, not at all..."Issac murmured to Alice, his brown eyes trying to catch Lydia's. Just one glance...those mossy green eyes...

((My internet is being stupid right now, so I'm gonna go to bed. Goodnight!))

A week...Lydia thought about it for a moment. It didn't sound quite right for some reason...
Her thoughts were interrupted as a guard yanked her to her feet, and another grabbed the chain between her wrists and pulled her out. Just before she was surrounded, she caught a glimpse of Issac, standing a little ways away with a strange expression on his face.
Then she was brought out, and put back in her little cage, some of the guards smacking her or spitting on her a couple times before they shut the door.

Issac didn't like the way he was feeling. The way his stomach seemed frozen with ice, or how his throat was thick with anxiety. It took a moment to for him to realize that Alice was talking to him.

"Issac? Issac?"She was saying, her eyebrows furrowed in worry."Are you okay? Is it something about that girl?"

"Ah, it's nothing."He reassured lightly. Curse his younger sister's intuition! She just picked up on so many things, so many moods...Aloce wrinkled her nose, frowning.

"I don't like it when you lie to me."Her voice broke on the last word, and Issac stopped, guilt spreading through his blood as he saw the tears begin to form."It's not fair. I don't lie to you."

"Alice, don't cry."Issac begged, looking into her eyes pleadingly. It wasn't like she could see him, but she sensed him there. "Alice, please." If there was anything Issac couldn't stand, it was seeing Alice cry. Her lower lip got reall pouty, and trembly like.

"Take me to meet her."Alice sniffed, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand. Such a childish gesture."I want to know why she's so special to you."Issac groaned; his sister couldn't have put a worse time to demand something like that. It wouldn't get him in trouble; actually, probably the guards would encourage it."Teach her to spit on the enemy." They would say, or "Good. The little girl can learn how we treat our criminal." Issac bit his lower lip. He really did hate hurting Alice. She was his Achilles' heel alright. He took in a deep sigh.

"Fine."He sighed, and the dilemma proved to almost be worth it as her whole entire face let up. Issac couldn't help but to give a half smile at her enthusiasm. Before long, they were off to the castle.

((Sorry I disappeared, I had a phone call about a dogsitting job.))

The straw braid was getting long, longer than her arms when she stretched them out on either side of her, like wings. Lydia kept braiding as she thought, having nothing else to do. She kind of had to pee, but wasn't going to do it with so many people around. No way. She'd rather mess herself.
She had a theory about her execution, and was trying to decide whether to tell Issac or not. He had looked upset at her sentence, so he had to care, at least a little. And there was the fact that she just wanted to tell someone. She didn't admit it to herself, but it could be because she wanted to be reassured.
But she wasn't afraid. Not really. Right?
