Caged: 1x1 LIT DED

Dec. 27, 2012 at 1:55 am

The wagon rattles as it rolls down the rough cobble road, swaying slightly. As it enters the city, though, it steadies. The roads of Kascan are neatly paved and smooth. It's a rich city, well taken care of and peaceful. The occasional crime occurs, as in all cities, but mostly everything is fine, even in the "peasant's" district. Everyone is fed, everyone is clothed, and all the buildings are in good repair.
   "The City Paved in Gold."
A bit of an exaggeration, but not excessively. In fact, one of the roads really is paved in gold. Part gold, anyway. It's mixed with copper and bronze. It's a small road, just outside the Palace, leading in. I suppose I'll be seeing it soon, though not on my terms.
Bystanders stare and gawk as I pass. With good reason. It's a rare day when a young woman, bound and gagged, is brought through the streets of Kascan in a cage.
I've been convicted of treason, and I am guilty. Guilty, and proud. This Kingdom seems so perfect, so wonderful, so happy. You may ask why would anyone want to betray it and its king?
It's true, the Kingdom is rich and prosperous. It's true, the villages and towns surrounding the City flourish. It's true, most people are happy.
   But no one asks why.
   No one asks where.
   No one asks how.
Well, that's not exactly true. A few of us do. Even fewer of us actually try to find out. Scarcely any of us actually succeed. But most of us, when we do learn, try to stop it.
King Thale gets his riches from trading. Human trading. Everyone has heard tell of the Crimson Death in the East. It starts as a simple fever, sometimes a very mild one. One most wouldn't expect to be anything serious. This is followed by nosebleeds, and a cough as your lungs fill with blood. Nothing you consume will stay down, not even water, and many die of dehydration before the plague finishes them. The fever worsenes, leading to hallucinations and paranoia. In extreme cases, the victim goes completely insane.
There is a ten in ten thousand chance of survival, and no one over the age of forty has lived.
Drien, the capital city in the East, is severely underpopulated. Their king, King Nathan, pays King Thale gold for people. Workers, to help keep the city going. People to help try to stop the spread of the Crimson Death. Test subjects, so they can learn more about the virus and possibly find a cure.
He sends people he thinks no one would miss to die. Orphans, the childless elderly, criminals...
    My brother.
So I fight. There are more of us, but I can't say how many. But I got caught trying to stop another shipment of "cargo". And now I'm in this cage, destined to rot in the Square.
That is, until I get out.

* * * *

"You!" I grab the wooden tray that's shoved into my arms. "Take this to the traitor."
I nod, and walk out the shiny oak door. The sun is setting, and the prisoner needs her meal. I, being the newest guard, get the unlucky job of night shift.
I approach the cage, a simple box with iron bars not big enough to put anything thicker than an arm through and strong wooden roof and floor. She's sitting in the straw that serves as her bedding, staring idly at the setting sun.
When I reach her, I unlock the tiny door and shove the tray through. The opening is hardly five inches high; only big enough for the tray.
   She looks up. "Good evening."

* * * * *

Soo...

She "betrayed" her King and Country. She is the king's enemy.

He is sworn to serve and protect said king.

But, night after night he guards her, until they start to get to know each other a bit. Maybe more than a bit...

Rules: Be literate, be dedicated, and be realistic. That's pretty much all I ask for. :) I don't do mature romance. If there's se.x, it's a fade-away. But, my RPs tend to get kind of mean, so don't join if squeamish.

And I want the girl. :) That's why I made the guy thing up there so short, I didn't want to establish any personality or anything in there. And all that doesn't have to happen like that exactly, but that's about it. :)

Skellies:

Name: (Since this is midevil, there doesn't necessarily have to be a surname. The first name can be real or made up.)

Gender: (I want the girl, so this one's actually kinda useless :p)

Age: (I was thinking early twenties or late teens)

Appearance:  (Details are awesome! Include height, hair color and length, eye color, and body type and body type at least, and also any other distinguishing features.)

Personality: (Details!)

Skills: (what fighting skill ((if any)), athletic, etc...)

Bio: (not required, but at least a little is nice.)

((Yes! It's okay if you're not on every day, I haven't been lately either. Just don't drop out, 'cuz that's really annoying. :) Post a skellie any time, I might take a bit for mine. I'm busy right now.))

Name:Issac Waters

Age:19

Gender:Male

Appearance: Issac is tall, with a lean and lanky build. Don't let his build fool you; he might have thin hips and broad shoulders, but he's got strength. He falls around 6' even, with an olive complexion. His eyes are and odd honey brown, with hints of gold. Issac's hair is a ruffled black, with his nose is slightly crooked from breaking it as a child. He has thin fingers, and a small scar on his strong jawline. Issac is usually seen in simple clothes; a shirt, pants, the regular outfit for a new guard. He does have boots, though.

Personality: Issac is a calm individual. He looks at things with a level head, and tries to be objective in almost eveything. This can get annoying, but when needed, he's an excellent strategist. Stubborn than most, Issac insists on doing things his way. In some cases, a rebel. He carries a cool confidence with him, and he has a charismatic way with words. It was rare for him to make human relationships worth while, and when he does, there is no going back.

Abilities: Issac is a pro at archery, and pretty good with knives. Still, a bow and arrow are lethal in his hands.

Bio: Issac was born near the Palace, so naturally, things were in his favor even before he came to be. He has an older brother, and a younger sister. His mother died a few years ago from an strange illness(the one with the bloody noses and such) and he misses her from time to time. More for his sisters sake. His father works for the king.

Name: Lydia

Age: 18

Gender: Female

Appearance: Thin build, bordering on underweight, with wiry muscles and hardly any fat, unlike most of the healthy, well fed populace of Kascan. She's about 5'4", average. Her eyes are moss green, with a ring of black on the outside of the iris, and a couple tiny gold flecks. her hair is dark brown, and looks almost red in some lights. It falls in loose waves to her waist when loose, but she usually keeps it in a braid. Now, in captivity, her locks are a tangled mess.
Narrow, straight nose, slightly longer than average, but not too long. Heart shaped face. She has a ropy scar on her left side, and a smaller one on her right shoulder, sloping part way down her back.

Personality: She's passionate, and determined. The Cause is what she lives for, and she'd never betray them. She'll never stop fighting. Her determination to help the Cause hardly gets in her way of making friends, and she's well loved within the Cause. She's good with kids, but sometimes has trouble figuring out adults. She can get impatient at times, and always wants to be moving.

Skills: She's good at stealth, and can blend in nearly anywhere. She's adept at picking locks, surviving in the wild, and fights with a short sword, or a crossbow when she needs something ranged. She also has some small skill in medicine.

Bio: Lydia grew up in the "poor" district of Kascan with her parents and younger brother, Finn. Finn was always a trouble maker, sometimes disappearing and coming back with a story about how he'd been arrested, and they had let him go. But he got caught one too many times, as he tried to rig fireworks to King Thale's carriage. A silly prank got him locked in prison with a year's sentence. One day, two months into this sentence, Lydia came to visit only to find him gone. She looked for months before the Cause found her. She's been working with them for three years.

((I'll go. :) ))

The cart jerked to a stop and Lydia's cage was lifted out by six men and dropped roughly onto a platform in the center of the square. It was an ideal location, she noted. Walls on three sides with watchtowers in the corners, four day guards at her platform, and an open area that would be difficult to hide in if she did manage to escape.
"I thought I was going to see Thale?"
One of the guards struck her arm smartly with his baton through the bars. "You will adress your King with respect. His Majesty will see you when he chooses."
She sat down against the bars and scowled, "He's no king of mine." With that, she stayed silent for the next three hours as she watched the sun creep along the sky, sinking lower and lower.

"She's a mouthy one, she is."Garn spat towards Issac as he left his post. Issac felt his eyebrows rise in curiosity. So the infamous Lydia--or so he had been told her name was--was "mouthy"? Enough to get Garn irritable? She had to be interesting, then.
With a little smirk on his face, Issac took Garn'e position. It was late at night, and he wondered what it would be like to stay there until the break of dawn. She was most likely asleep...so did that mean no mouthy entertainment? Issac frowned in dissapointment. The newer guards always got the boring night shifts...He sighed and sat down against the wall, staring intently at the cage. Issac could only see a hunched up figure...
"You're still alive, right?"Issac called out loud, his right brow raising higher.

Lydia didn't move as her day guard left, replaced with a single young man. He sat down, then asked her a question.
"I assume so. You?" she answered evenly, wondering why he was even talking to her.

Issac blinked at the th voice that responded. He was not expecting an answer. He paused for a moment, before a slight smile came to his face.
"Yup. I'm alive."He reassured."Just checking. I can't have a dead prisoner."Issac explained this like it was obvious. He paused again. Was it like, against the rules to talk to a prisoner...?"I've heard you're mouthy. You seem pretty quiet to me."

"When I want to be." Lydia said simply. "But one doesn't have to be loud to be mouthy." She didn't look at him, but glanced around the square yet again, as if memorizing it. Not that that was necessary. Even if she hadn't grown up here, she'd been here for three hours and would have already known every nook.

Issac took that in, before shrugging and getting more comfortable against the wall. It was going to be a loooong night, alright.
"I guess you're right."He amended, before he squinted. Wht in the world did she look like?"You're in for treason, they say."

"And 'they' would be correct." Lydia answered, not a trace of shame or regret in her voice. She would never be ashamed of what she was, nor would she show remorse for her actions. Picking up a few pieces of straw of the bottom of the cage, she began to idly braid them together. She may look calm, but inside, she hated sitting still and not doing anything.

Issac slightly chuckled, before he stood up and sat directly in front of her cage. It was dark, but there were candles. A few flickered by them, and Issac was surprised at her beauty. Sure, a little thin, with crazy hair, but she was a prisoner, right?
"It must be boring here, huh?"He guessed, tilting his head.

"Could be worse." she commented, shrugging lightly. Was he gloating? Or was he just as bored and making small talk? She watched his sillhouette as he watched her. The position of the flickering candles made him impossible to see, though she was sure he could see her. For some reason, it made her skin crawl. This wasn't a position she was often in. She liked to see everything, and it unnerved her to know he could see her, and she couldn't see him. "This box could have had walls, instead of bars."

((It's funny, as I typed that post a song called Runaway was playing, and right as I typed the bit about the cage these lyrics played: Somebody got to put me in a cage Oh, I don't want to be this way, oh))

"True."Issac agreed lightly, before sitting criss crossed and leaning back to gaze above. He let his mind wander. To his brother, no doubt asleep, along with his father. Then his sister, who was probably awake. She always tried to stay up until Issac came home, but she always fell asleep in the end. For a moment, Issac wondered if the prisoner had any family. He kept the questions to himself, before glancing back at her."You know, I think I'm breaking the rules talking to you, but I don't care."Issac then broadly grinned.

Lydia smiled slightly, hearing the grin in his voice. "When a rule is fragile enough to be broken so easily, itcan't be a good one." Her fingers continued to braid, though she wasn't paying any attention to what she was doing. As her guard shifted, she caught a glimpse of his hair in the light. Not that it made a lot of difference, as it was black anyway, but at least she knew what part of him looked like.

"Wise words, I would say."Issac replied back, fairly enough. She wasn't even mouthy! What was he supposed to do now!? He was there until dawn! Issac ran a hand through his hair, before he lit a few more candles. It made the place a little bit brighter..."What's your name anyways? I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours." Isdac offered, with a wiggle of his eyebrows.
