He wasn't talking about that, but he'll indulge her. "Lus, you may not be "artsy" like me, but you're forgetting, its a creative and performing school, and you my dear friend have the voice of an angel." He smiled at her as he once again took up his seat. "You'll fit in great!" He tried to reassure her. "And, I wont have to wait an extra half an hour for you to get out of school so that we can hang out." He gave her his best pouty face.
Lucy sighed. "You know I'd love to Ash," she told him. "But you know Mum and Dad would never let me. They don't think singing could ever be a career. They want me to go to law school. They've already done so much for me, I can't let them down."
"So you'd rather give up your happiness to fulfill one that neither one of your parents ever achieved?" He sighed. "Whatever, it's your choice, whatever makes you 'happy'." He spat the last part. "Its getting late and we should really start heading back." He stood up, taking her empty tray in his hands and waited for her to join him.
Lucy got up quickly. "Ash, please don't be like this," she pleaded. "They never had to adopt me, or love me like I was their own kid, but they did. They only want what's best for me, and I have to trust they know that better than I do."
"I'm sorry, its just I don't like it when parents think the always know what's best for their child especially when their child was the valedictorian of her high school graduating class." He started to walk, tossing the tray as they passed the trash. "I guess I can settle for this. Our classes may not be together and neither is our buildings, but we're still at the same college. I'm sorry." He wrapped his arm around her shoulders, pulled her to his side and kept walking. Even before and after discovering his feelings for her, he's always been able to do this with no problem.
Lucy rested her head on Ash's shoulder as she walked with him. "I'm sorry Ash," she said softly. "Maybe someday, huh? Maybe we should take a gap year, travel the world. You could get some incredible pictures. I could... I don't know, find out about law in different countries." She knew it wasn't something that was likely to happen, but it was nice to dream of things they could do.
"Maybe..." he let the sentence hang. Before he knew it, they were at her dorm and his arm had slipped around her waist. "So I guess I'll see you at the gallery then?" He leaned in and gave her a sweet and quick kiss on the cheek. "Don't forget to ask for the suit Lus." He stepped back to smile at her.
"I'll get Ben to drop it round at your place," Lucy offered. "He'll probably want to say hi anyway. He seems to think you're pretty cool, although I can't possibly imagine why." She winked at him. "What time do I need to get there?"
"Well I'll be developing my photos from 8-4, the gallery starts at 6, so about 4:30 is okay." He says. "I got to go, gave to get up early, but ill see you there." He started to back away smiling.
"Bye Ash, I hope the photos turn out as amazing as they always are," Lucy smiled, waving goodbye. "I'll make sure Ben knows the times you're free for him to drop round the suit."
Ash makes it to his room and puts his camera safely away. He takes a shower then heads for bed, he has a long day ahead of him.
Lucy went into her dorm room and shut the door behind her. She flopped on her bed and texted her brother about the suit for Ash. Then she picked up the paperback that she'd been reading when Ash arrived and was quickly engrossed in it.
Soon daylight was upon Ash and he rolls out of the bed. 6:45. He takes a shower and gets ready to go develop his pictures. He grabs his camera and heads out to the photography shop / class. "Morning Mr. Jonathan." He says. "Morning Ash, you ready for the gallery?" The man questions. "I guess." Ash shrugs. "You bringing your adorable friend?" Ash blushed. "Yeah, Lucy's coming to support me." The man nods. "That's great, keep her close, seems like y'all have something special." With that Mr. Jonathan walked away. Ash decided to head back to the Black Room.
Lucy was up early as well. She was supposed to be studying that evening, but she couldn't because of Ash's gallery. Not that she was complaining. Regardless, it meant she had to finish her coursework that morning. Sighing, she got on with it. After an hour she got up and made herself a cup of tea and texted Ash. Hope it's all going well xx
Just as he placed his belongings down, his phone vibrated in his pocket. He smiled at the message but didn't reply. Instead he went through the process of developing his photographs.
Lucy flopped back on her bed as she finished the last sentence of her essay. She massaged her fingers as she lay there. She felt her eyelids begin to droop and quickly fell asleep.
After developing the photos and placing them in frames, he packs up and heads to back to his dorm to get ready to meet Ben before heading over to the gallery to finish setting up before coming back to get Lucy. When he gets to his dorm, Ben is waiting outside his door. "Hey Ben is it? Thanks for lending me one of your suits, I appreciate it." He said to the man as he unlocked his door and walked in, leaving it open for Ben to follow.
((I'll pp Ben since Lucy is asleep.))
"It's no problem man," Ben replied, following Ash in. "My girlfriend told me this one would be best for the thing you've got on tonight, so I hope it is." He held out the suit. "Where d'you want me to put it?"
"Over there, you can place it there." Ash pointed to his desk chair and settled his bag down. "I have a little while before I have to head out." He opened the bag and pulled out several pictures. He has this thing where he constantly has to check to make sure his photos aren't cracked or messed up after they've been moved.
Ben saw the pictures and smiled. "Hey, do you mind if I take a look?" he asked. "Lucy is always going on about how brilliant they are, I'd love to see them for myself."
