Ash grabbed himself and. Lucy a plate. "Here." He handed the plate to Lucy. He started eating when Asia started trying to climb on his lap. "Ashy," she cried. He placed his food aside to pick her up. "Hey Angel, you hungry?" He grabbed his food and offered her some food.
Lucy helped herself to some food and tucked in hungrily. "This is delicious," she said, smiling gratefully at Ima. "Thank you so much."
Ima (mother in Hebrew) Tia smiled at Lucy. "Thank you dear. I aim to please with my cooking. For goodness sake Ash, don't Fred her that, she'll get all gassy." Tia complained. "Then I'll change her." He continued to feed Asia as she cooed at him.
"Hey, could I hold her?" Lucy asked tentatively. She held out her arms to take the baby, smiling softly.
Asia smiled with some sauce on her face and crawled toward Lucy. "Cee," she called to Lucy and reached for Lucy's hair. "Careful, she like to pull hair," Jes said as she walked into the room with a bottle of milk.
Asia took a chunk of Lucy's long dark hair in her fist and pulled. Lucy giggled. "I can see what you mean. She's very strong for a baby."
"She gets it from her mother. Believe me, Jes was strong for a baby. She'd pull out all my hair if I hadn't smacked her hands away. Lightly of course." Tia said and Jes dipped her head blushing. "Sorry Ima." Jes whispered. "It wasn't just you, Ash pulled too. Except he liked to grab people's lips." This time Ash blushed.
Lucy chuckled, enjoying seeing Ash embarrassed. "Go on, tell me more mortifying stories about him as a baby," she encouraged Tia.
Tia laughed. "Ash was a cute baby but he was bad as ever. I remember the first time I watched him, he found his way into my make-up." She paused. "I never knew a baby-a nine month old baby knew how to put on lipstick. He did it too, didn't even make a mess. He got it perfectly on his lips-fiery red at that. I think I have a picture too." She got up and disappeared and came back with a small photo album. "Here you go." She handed to small album to Lucy.
Lucy smirked mischievously and opened up the album. "Aw, Ash," she said, prodding him playfully in the side. "You were an adorable baby."
Ash blushed.,"Thanks Auntie," he said as he bowed his head. "Quit playing embarrassed, you saw that photograph too. If you look beside it, there's a picture of Asia. She did the same. They're smart and strong even at a very young age." Jes smiled at Ash then her daughter who was pawing at the album.
"You must be so proud of all three of them," Lucy said softly, uncharacteristic sentiment lacing her voice. She found herself wishing that her own biological mother had loved her as much as Tia clearly loved Ash, Jes and Asia.
"They brighten up my world. I was just sad and disappointed that I couldn't take care of Ash after his mother died. There were complications." Tia looked at Ash and he nodded for her to continue. "I'm guessing they told you about Jezebel's history and their father's history," she paused. "I couldn't take Ash in fear that they'd come after Jes and they would take all three of them. They were keeping a very watchful eye out on Ash. They knew that he was the eldest son of Malcom and they figured that he would know where Jes was. I figure by now, they stopped looking." Jes grabbed Tia's hand and gave it a gentle squeeze while keeping an eye on Asia who was falling asleep in Lucy's arms. "She's tired, but she seems to think that yiou make a great pillow," Jes said softly and smiled.
Lucy smiled sadly at the baby on her lap. "At least she'll grow up surrounded by people who adore her. She couldn't ask for more," she sighed.
Nobody said anything, just watched Asia adoringly. Asia on the other hand turned her face toward Lucy and yawned with her eyes closed. She snuggled closer to Lucy until she found a comfortable position. "At least," Ash whicpered quietly.
Lucy chuckled. "She's beautiful. Anytime you want me to come babysit consider me signed up already," she said.
Tia and Jes both smiled. Ash just looked down at his neice and his girlfriend. It was right bringing her here. It was about time she and Asia get used to each other considering Lucy will be around for a long time.
Lucy looked at her watch and her eyes widened. "I'm so sorry, but I have to go soon," she said apologetically. "I have a review with my professor about my progress in twenty minutes and I can't miss it."
Everyone nodded but Ash picked up Asia, kissed her head and handed her to Jes. He kissed Jes on her head and his aunt on her cheek. "Come on, I'll walk you back. I need to stop by the gallery anyways," he said as he offered his hand to Lucy.
Lucy took his hand and smiled. "It was lovely seeing you and meeting Asia," she said. "And thanks for lunch. Much better than what I could microwave in my dorm."
