Try nodded, not in the mood to agrue anymore, her leg was throbbingad n she now favoring her other side more and more. She followed him carefully , her pace much slowler than ebfore for teh loss of blood had also made her weak and mroe tired. She had a hard time even tailing the man becuase he moved faster than she did with ehr injured leg.
"I neva fergit 'at, guvna." Risk said, and he turned and left the room, eh ran off and left the building heading out to the streets. To the adventure he'd just been gvievn. He was important now, he was ona missiona ll by himself, except for tehs tone that connected him to Darkyn.
Kyvan finally stopped at an old sewage hole. He lept down and landed on the cement inside- it had long dried up here. He then continued moving until he found a ladder. He managed to climb up with one arm to another exit. he climbed out onto the empty street and helped the girl after him. Wyvern flew ahead.
"Almost there," he promised.
Darkyn watched Risk leave before smirking. he had known it would pay off to have him around.
Try follwoed quietky, she just nodded when the man saud they were almost there. She was too weak from loss of blood to care anymore, if they got there than good if they didn't then who would care? She kept ehr head ducked and feet moving, concentrating on walking and staying upright.
Risk was in teh streets now he started to make his way towards the library, makings ure to 'fall' intoa ditch and make hismelf a filthy mess on the way.
Kyvan went to an old door that was covered in multiple stains. he pounded on it with his first two times and rapted with his knuckles three times and shouted, "Open the rotten door!"
Yang swung open the door, "What happened? And who is that?"
"We're both hurt. Let's us in," Kyvan gently prodded the girl ahead. "Get her your grandpa quickly."
Woo yang nodded and shouted to another nearby boy named Red, "Help her. I'll take care of him. And don't tell her anything, "He whispered softer to him so the girl couldn't hear. "Not even your name."
Try was guided to a chair and sat down, the boy who'd been assinegd to her unwrapped her leg and satrted to clean in. Try gritted her teeth to keep from screaming. She looked around at teh people in the room, they were obviously suspicous of her, she leaned her head back. It didn't matter what they thought, she didn't care, her parents would coem and take her away as soon as they could, as soon as theyd ecided she didn't need to be punished with their absence anymore they'd come.
Yang sat Kyvan down and rolled his sleeve up. "You're an idiot. This is might be too posioned to save now."
"I couldn't just leave her there." Kyvan growled as Yang rubbed some green ointment over his arm and then shot a needle into his arm. "It was my fault she was in danger."
"You are too much like your father," Yang sighed.
"And that's a bad thing?" Kyvan asked.
Yang glared at him, "It is for your health!"
Kyvan felt his eyes start to droop as the meds started to kick in. "Just stick her in the guest room and lock the door. I'll deal with her when I wake in the morning. ANd treat her good. She's not a prisoner."
"Yeah, yeah," Yang muttered as he helped Kyvan to his bed on the ground. "I'll have Red tend to her. I need to head to the library anyway and help Granddad."
"Mmmmkaaay," Kyvan muttered sleepily as he covered up.
Instantly he was alseep.
Try was led into a room. It was nice enough, there was a bed, a night stand with a lamp, and an arm cahir in a corner. There was a another door off teh side to a small washroom. She turned around when she ehard the door shut, dartingf roward she tried the knob. Thye'd locked her in! She was a prisoner! She sat on her bed and pulled her diary out.
Nov. 15, 2212. cawntinuud
Thair waz an ambush outsiid of the loft. A man, I stiil dont no hiz name cam runnin up the stairs and triid to kidnap mee. Then wee wer ataked bii Creeturs, my leg waz slashed up preety good. I got away frum him after thee atak. I took my stuff frum thee loft and run away, this time some solders tried to asult mee. The strang man helped me get away, now I'm at this man'z plaas, they'v loked mee in this room so I cant leev. I think I'l sleep now maybee I'l figer this al owt toomorow.
After she finished writing she shut her diary and put it, her picture and pencil on the night stand. Then she lay down on the bed and went to sleep. Not even bothering to take her shoes off or pull the covers over her.
Risk decided to go to the lirbary tomorrow, it was late now, he should get some sleep. The library would be closed anyway. He went adn curled up behind a trash bin and soon went to sleep.
Darkyn stared out the window into the night. They had gotten away. An entire armada and ten Dracons and they had still managed to get away.
He clenched his fists tightly and glared at the sleeping city. "I know it's you Kyvan. And I am coming for you."
Kyvan woke as some sunlight streamed through the window and hit his face. He sat up and looked at his arm. It was still red with fever and swollen, but the medicine they had stolen was working well and it had stopped the poision from rotting off his arm.
Red peeked in at him. He was a small boy with flaming red hair- gaining him his name- and had lost his speech long ago after he had seen his parents killed by soldiers before his eyes. It wasn't that he couldn'y speak. He just never did. He talked through gestures.
"The girl?" Kyvan asked after sitting up and pulling off his mask- the one he had left on last night. "How is she?"
He nodded an rubbed his stomach.
"Yes, give her some food and water. Then check her wounds and treat them," Kyvan stood and let his arm hang limply. "I'll check on her in a moment."
Red nodded and retreated to do as he was told.
Try was sleeping when red entered teh room, she jerked awake when she heard tehd oor open though. She sat up in her bed and stared at the red headed boy who'd come in. It was teh same boy who'd treated her ;eg yesterday and had locked her in ehre. She pulled away when the boy tried to touch her leg. She longer was slow from loss of blood,s he was thinking now,w hat were they going tod o to her here? Why had she been locked in last nighT?
Risk headed fro teh libray, he was now really filthya dn hungry he climbed the library stepped and rattled tehd oor handle, it wasn't open yet. He sigehd and sat on teh steps,w aiting, he glared at the stone steps.
Kyvan dressed- changing out of his camoflage and slipping on some old jeans and a dirty T-shirt. Clothes that he blended in with. He pulled on an old jacket and his boots followd by his cap. He pulled it low over his eyes.
"Hey, Bright," he called to a girl who was cleaning a dingy mirror, "I'll be back. Tell the others I'm heading to the news stands."
"Kay," she nodded. "And Yang said to tell you that he delivered the stuff we got last night already."
Kyvan nodded. "Good. Where to?"
"That orphange down by the river."
Kyvan slipped out into the streets. Keeping his shoulders up and his head down. Most soldiers stayed out of the slums but there were always plenty at the market.
He made his way to the market and found even more soldiers than normal about. But he also heard whispers.
"Did you here? The Strays did it again. They stole 3 whole trucks of food this time."
"YEs," someone else whispered, "But they are tripling the guards around the city."
"Who cares? The Strays can handle anything."
Kyvan smiled. He wished that was true.
Red didn't talk to Try adn she refused to let him touch her. She didn't trust them, after all they locked her ina room for the night. Red had given her some fod, but she hadn't touched it. How did she know that thye weren't trying to drug her? She refused to let them help her, why let someone help her who she thought would hurt her? She could take care fo herself!
Kyvan bought a paper and glanced at the market's clock- it was one of the few buildings of Old that stood. It was solar powered so it had never stopped running. It was nearly 8:00 in the morning. Woo and his grandpa should be opening the library soon. He should go over there and ask Mr. Shang what he thought about the girl and what he should do.
Besides if she tried to do anything while he was gone Bright and Wyvern would take care of her.
Kyvan set off to the library. When he got to the steps he saw a dirty little boy glaring at the stones.
"Wha' ya' be doin' kid?" Kyvan asked, easily slipping into his role as a common guy.
Risk looke dup at the guy who was talkin to him, "W'a' it matta to ya, guvna?" he sneered insolently, glaring at him. He was porbably more mocking than he should've been, but he was hunrgy and cranky, the library was late in opening. He wiped his mouth wit teh back of hsi hand on continued to glarea dn squint at the man.
Kyvan smirked, "A lil' raskal ar' ya? Fella' lil' as ya needs ta be carefa' of how it is a talkin'. Might upset somebady."
He dug in his satchel tossed him a small loaf of bread. He always kept an extra one or two to help kids like him out. " 'ere. Now ya didn't get this fram me."
Kyvan walked past him and pounded the library's door knocker. Yang opened up and peered at him.
"Morin' " Kyvan said, "I 'ere fer my readin' lesson."
Yang glanced behind him at the kid and nodded. Understanding that Kyvan needed to see his Grandpa. "Mr. Shang will be happy to see you. Please come in."
Risk ripped teh bread loaf in half and started to eat one half, the other he shoved into his pocket, then he got up and went over to the library door. he looked at the kid who answered the door, "P'ease sir, I nee' some'ere to wor', I ain't got no family." he explained, he looked up a the kid, hoping he'd be allowed in.
Kyvan looked down at the kid and raised an eyebrow at Yang. Yang sighed through his nose and bit his cheek. He knew full well it was dangerous to take in children off of the street. Many times they stole from you in the night and were gone the next morning.
"We'll give you a chance to earn your keep. We'll see how you do today and if you prove useful you have yourself a deal. SOund fair?" Woo finally said.
Kyvan bit back a smile. That was just like Woo. He was always taking in lost childern. Himself inculded.
Risk stared up at the guy, "Don' trus' meh eh?" he said, then pasued for a few moments, "I 'sept 'e deal." he added. he toook anothe rbite out of his bread adn chewed on it, staring up at both people with his dark brown eyes, waiting to b elet in so he coudl strt working.
Yang turned to Kyvan, "Mr. Shang is in his office. You know the way."
Yang turned to the kid. "Well, I guess you can start by helping me dust the shelves."
Kyvan left the two and headed deeper into the library. He dragged his hands over the covers, reading the titles as he went. He knew how to read, he was General Bloodworths only son, and had been expected to take his father's place one day. He had been educated from a young age. Somethign he had taken for granted until his father was murdered.
He went to Shang's office and knocked.
"Come in."Kyvan entered and found Mr. Shang reading over today's paper. "Ah, what can I do you for Mr...?"
"Call me Match today," Kyvan said as he sat, "My code name 'Elm' was discovered stealing a soldier's lunch."
Mr. Shag chuckled. "ALways getting into trouble. Now, what do you need?"
Risk nodded and taking up a dust clooth started to dust the lowest shelves with it. he was a good worker, he'd learned to be while living with Darkyn. He coudln't reach alot of teh shelves because they wer to high, so he did th eones down low where it'd be hard for the older boy to get too.
Try sat in her room, her food on the nightstand, untouched. The redheaded boy had given up on trying to get her to eat or let him tend to her leg and had left her alone, locking the door again. Try winced as she shifted on her bed, her leg was hurting, felt like it was on fire. She picked her diary upa dn satrted to write.
Nov. 16, 2212.
Thair stil keepin mee prizawnor. I cant get owt, thay lok the dor. Thay gayv mee food, but I dont wawnt to eet it. It may bee poysened.
Kyvan filled him in about the girl. When he had finished he sat back and waited to see what he would say.
Mr. Shang stared into the fireplace for a while. He finally said, "The girl may very well be trouble so I sugest you get her to trust you."
Kyvan nodded slowly, "How do you sugest I do that? She knows good and well what we did. There is a price over our heads and she could sell us out. SHe knows where we live."
Shang nodded. "True. But I said to get her to trust you, not to let her go. ANd if she manages to escape just clear out. You've had to do it before."
Kyvan nodded. "Okay. If you think so sir I'll do as you say."
Shang nodded. "Now go. Before you can manage to get into more trouble."
Kyvan left. He walked by the kid and Woo and waved, "See ya kid." he nodded bye to Yang who was holding a duster.
"Have a good day, sir," Yang called.
"Ya ta."
Kyvan walked back onto the streets and vanished into the crowd. Heading back home to take care of that girl.
