Emma sniffed. "You leaving the corridor right now sounds mighty fine to me. And you need to have your eyes checked, just FYI.”

"I already have had my eyes checked," Louis replied. He leant forward as if telling her a secret. "I wear contact lenses. But don't tell anyone, it detracts from my mysterious air."

A chuckle forced its way out of her throat, but she quickly wiped the little smile off. "I asked you to leave, so you might oblige before I get mad, mister.”

"Well, I asked you to tell me why you're crying but you haven't so I guess that makes us even. How about you tell me and then I'll go.

Emma growled. "If that's the case, then I'll leave!" She got up and began to go to her dormitory

Louis immediately followed her, too stubborn to let it go. "I swear I'll find out why you were crying," he said to her. "I'll charm it out of you."

"I thought you said you were leaving!" Emma stormed faster away.

Louis had been looking for a reason to stay - the orphanage itself wasn't enough - and maybe this girl's secret was it. "You changed my mind," he said.
Nov. 6, 2012 at 12:59 pm
Emma swore profoundly and then stopped in her tracks, whirling around. "You are a bloody git, you know that?"
Nov. 6, 2012 at 2:15 pm
"Now, now. That's not very nice, is it?" he said patronizingly. "I've done nothing but compliment you and try to make you feel happier."
Nov. 6, 2012 at 2:19 pm
"Don't patronize me."
Nov. 6, 2012 at 2:36 pm
"I'm not. I stopped you crying and you know it. Like it or not, you have to admit that I cheered you up, or at least took your mind off what ever was bothering you."
Nov. 6, 2012 at 2:51 pm
She glared at him, more hot tears spilling out of her eyes. "Leave. Me. The. Bloody. H*ll. Alone!"
Nov. 6, 2012 at 3:03 pm
Louis sighed, raking a hand through his hair. "We got off to a bad start. Can we try again?" he asked.

"I'm not known for letting things go easily." With that, she went into her dorm and slammed the door in his face.
Nov. 6, 2012 at 3:17 pm
Louis wasn't entirely sure what to do. He had missed his chance to escape and so he wandered to the room he had been told was his dorm and started to unpack.

Emma waited until dinner time to come out again, and then she slowly went into the room, sitting at the end of the table and not looking at anyone.
Nov. 6, 2012 at 3:26 pm
Louis entered the dining room and immediatly spotted the girl from earlier. He went to her table and sat down next to her. "Hello," he said politely. "I'm Louis. I don;t think we've met before."

She looked at him in surprise, and then her eyes narrowed in suspicion. "I'm Emma," she said cautiously.
