1x1, Aeliss? Lit., Reasonably dedicated

Nov. 10, 2012 at 1:14 pm

Elle raised her eyebrows and held her hands out. Was it a trick? Try and get the slaves to trust you, think you actually cared so they'd work better...Her second master had done that. But even then, he hadn't taken the chains off until they'd gotten to his house, which had a dozen guards.

((Last post for now! I really have to get off. But I _might_ be able to post later. ))

Match walked over to the slave girl, who had been the first to hold out her chained hands. The others looked hesitant, but this girl just looked inquisitive.
He inserted the key into the lock, and turned it. The chains loosened, and fell off, into Match's waiting hands. He picked up the heavy metal links, and tossed them into the back of the wagon. He inwardly winced at the sight of the rubbed, raw wrists that the chains had enclosed.  Match couldn't help noticing how skinny the girl's wrists were. Underfed, probably. Well, that would change at Brendan's castle.
Match continued unlocking chains, and throwing them into the back of the wagon. "You can go ahead and get in," he said over his shoulder, as he worked on the last pair of chains.

((Bye!))

Giving one last look at her strange new master, Elle climbed in. She stayed near the sides, in case she had to run. Getting trapped in the middle would make escape impossible.
Not that she was planning on escaping, but she still watched out for potential routes. Just in case.

((Gosh, I'm sorry I didn't post, Aeliss! Things got SO busy for me. I don't even have time to post a POV right now, because I barely snuck time to apologize for not posting! God willing, I'll post tomorrow. Things are hectic today... *goes off and starts screaming from the pressure of twenty different things she has to do* ))

((SO sorry! I was gone off and on for a while, and by the time I thought of this RP, it was lost in the pages. =P I managed to find it, though. ))

Brendan approached the small group of people at the wagon.  "Match!"

Match turned questioningly around, from where he had been fiddling with the horse's trappings. "Yes, Father?"
Brendan frowned. "Why are the slaves chains off? Don't we usually leave them on, until we reach the castle?"
"Er, the chains were really tight. Besides- they won't make trouble. I promise."
Brendan rolled his eyes. "You can't promise for a bunch of slaves, Match. They'll run away the first chance they get."

((It's okay. :) I've been busy, too.))

Elle didn't usually like to talk to her owners. She usually stayed silent and followed orders, unless something really bothered her. Talking nearly always got her in trouble anyway. I'll stay quiet, like always. No need to speak. Sarcasm is bad for you...
"Why are we still here, then?"

Match knew that it would be very bad form to laugh, especially since it would be at his dad's expense, so he bit his tongue to keep himself from involuntarily laughing.
Brendan frowned in the slave girl's direction.  "Don't be impudent, slave. Another uncalled for word out of you, and those chains go right back on. I'm only leaving them off now, because your master, Match, saw fit to remove them."
Match climbed into the front of the wagon, getting ready to head out. His father's next sentence floated behind him. "Just hope it wasn't a rash decision, son."
He grit his teeth. Match's father was a good man at heart, but he was stern, and sometimes unintentionally overbearing to his inferiors.  "It wasn't, Father."

Elle sat down, concealing her smirk behind another slave and her own hair. That was stupid, rash. These two masters seemed nicer than most, a comment like that would have gotten her an instant beating from her last one. Maybe if she stayed silent she'd be able to stay in one place...
She held on tightly to the side of the wagon, waiting for it to move.

Brendan climbed into the front of the wagon, behind Match. "I found our wagon driver dead-drunk in a tavern. I'm not going to tolerate that behaviour, so we'll go on without him. You go ahead and drive," he said, in a low voice.

Match nodded, and picked up the reins. Slapping them gently against the horses' sides, the animals started walking. The wagon eventually picked up to a moderate pace, and they were soon out of the town, and on the main road, headed towards the castle.

The wagon jerked forward and Elle leaned her head against the side of the rail. Maybe this time would be better...
She watched the road, and tried to figure out where they were headed. But she'd never been in this area before, and soon gave up and just waited to arrive.

((  *wants to go hide in a hole for not posting on this in a month* I'm so sorry, Aeliss!! I thought I had posted on here, saying that I probably wouldn't be able to post until after Christmas. I must have told Rosie, on OUR RP, and forgotten to tell you. =(

Do you want to skip until a couple days later, after Elle is situated at the castle?  ))

((Lol! Thanks! I just thought of this one, and was going to post. You made it easier to find. XD Alright then... let's say it's a week later. ))

Match woke up one morning, about a week after the trip to town, fetching the slaves. Bright sunlight was streaming through his window, which meant... he had overslept. And today was supposed to be his riding lesson, too. Leaping out of bed, he hurridly pulled clothes over his head, and sprang out the door, towards the long, spiraling staircase.

((Sorry there's no interaction yet! I was just trying to get things started again, kind of reintroducing the characters to the scene. ))

((I love Google. If you remember what the thread was called, or even part of it or just the players' usernames, you can Google it along with TeenInk and it comes up. :D What should Elle's job be? Just a kitchen or cleaning  slave or something?))

((Haha! I actually haven't tried that before... but now that I know it works, I will. XD
Anyway, hmm... yeah, she could work in the kitchen, I guess. Or, she could be  some other kind of servant, if you can think of one. XD Whatever you want her to be, is fine! ))

Elle cleared out dishes from the table after breakfast, leaving a plate for Match covered on a hot pan. He was late. She wondered vaguely if he was sick.
After a week, she'd decided this was a fairly nice place to work. There wasn't much contact with her masters, but from what she'd seen they weren't too harsh. Hardly anyone was in chains; the only ones who were were the troublemakers and runaways.

((I was thinking they could run into each other in the dining room...:) ))
