((Sorry, my internet died for a few days and then right after it came back the power went out. DX))
"You're not broken." Kani said firmly, stroking her hair. "Just a bit...scattered. But we can find the pieces." Part of him wondered how much of that statement was aimed at himself. Wondered if he could find the pieces of himself that went missing seven years ago.
She whimpered "But I feel so empty... I want you to fill me up again. I want you to make it better. We are both so messed up... Maybe by helping one another we can fix ourselves. All I know OS I am in love with you."
"I want to help you. And I'll do my best to always be here for you." He promised. "But I hate not knowing things. I have to be completely sure. I have to be positive that you are in love with me and not the idea of me. The old me." He touched her shirt where he knew the tattoo of his name was. "I'm not the same person you lost, and you're not the same person I left behind."
She looked down, whimpering softly "I wish nothing had ever changed... I miss who I was... Being alone changed us both.." Andy murmured, stroking his face softly. "But I think I can accept who I am now, who you are. It will be hard but I want tiredly work through it. I am willing to fix it, to work to put myself and you back together."
Kani nodded, then sighed. "I want to keep fighting." He said after a while. "I want to finish this and move on." He didn't add that he was worried that he wouldn't be able to. That they wouldn't let him go back out in his state.
He turned his head to look her in the eyes. "I have to know that if anything happens to me you'll keep going. Don't do this again." He touched her bandaged wrists. "Not for anybody."
She whimpered "I can't promise I won't... I deserved the pain... I deserved it..."
Kani flicked her gently on the forehead. "No. You don't. If I die in the field somewhere, how is that your fault? Soldiers die every day, and it's not anyone's fault for any of them except the enemy."
She looked away "I wanna stop talking about this..." she whispered, burying her face in his neck. All Andryah wanted to do was kiss him again. She wanted to feel the hint of perfection and wholeness she felt when his lips were on hers.
Kani went silent again for a moment before changing the subject. "HQ is pi.ssed. They want me in for evaluation."
"If you can't continue I am quitting. The only other person I would even be willing to work with it Reid and it would take a lot. I am yours alone and I refuse to work with anyone else.' She swore
"There is no way I'm stopping." Kani confessed. "I don't care if they fire me, I won't stop fighting."
She whimpered softly "Good. I will fight with you. I swear.
Kani nodded and stroked her hair, watching the shadows move across the kitchen floor as the sun set. He heard the side door slam open and a pair of feet slapping across the floor. Something about the pace was off, making Kani feel uneasy.
He stood up as Varian ran in, looking panicked and clutching the baby. "The-the-the," He stuttered, breathing hard.
Andy leaped up "Varian?! Love what happened?!" She said, taking the baby and watching him fearfully
Kani grabbed the small boy by the shoulders gently, but firmly, steadying his trembling as he gasped. "Does he still keep his inhaler in the cupboard under the sink?" He asked quickly, but calmly.
He sat Varian down and rubbed his back, trying to calm him down.
((*over. I meant over the sink, not under. >.<))
Andy nodded, quickly grabbing it and giving it to Kani "Here."
Kani took the inhaler and handed it to Varian, still rubbing his back soothingly. "You're okay. Just breathe."
He slowly got his breathing under control, but tears streamed down his face. "They're here. The Jakien." His words came out in a rush. "Alan told us to run, and we did. He was fighting..."
Kani looked him in the eyes. "Where are the others?"
Varian shook his head, sobbing. "I don't know. They were right behind me, and then they weren't!"
"I'll find them." Kani ruffled Varian's hair and hugged him. "Take Thane into the cupboard, the one with the false back. You know where it is, right?" Varian nodded and he continued. "Stay there until I get back. If you hear anyone in the house, stay quiet, do you understand?"
Varian nodded again, wiping his eyes.
Andy Kissed his temple "Protect your brother OK love?" She said "We will be back for you soon with the others." She stood, looking at her partner. "Let's go."
Kani heard Varian run off with Thane behind him as he turned to Andy. He pulled up the wallscreen and quickly tapped out a message to base.
Opening up the door, he checked his gun as he scanned the horizon, stomach dropping as he spotted smoke spiraling up in the distance. Those were the woods they always walked in. He ran, glad that he was stronger now than he had been. Still not what he used to be, but he could run.
