Her fingers slowed. She ended with both index fingers on C, a smile playing on her lips. D*mn, she could play well. She started into "Red Sails In THe SUnset"/

Gunner dreamt the same dream he had dreamt the day he had moved here from Chicago. The flooding, the destruction. Except this time, where he walked, the waters receded. He consciously knew he wasn't Jesus or anything like that, but his subconscious took an insanely lighthearted joy in pretending to be.

When she finished that song, she hesitated. The next song....Terrylee took a deep breath and began to play Fur Elise, remembering the romantic, heartbreaking story behind the song.

Two hours later, Gunner woke up with a slight headache. It got worse when he slammed his head against the wall. Ow. SOmeone was playing around with the keyboard. Was his little sister home? He went out and seen Terrylee, remembering the events of the day.

She had her eyes closed, blissfully unaware of all time and space. She was playing 'Clair De lune".

He stood there in the doorway, leaning on it and watching Terrylee play. He looked her over fully for the first time. She didn't seem like a harmful person. Quite the opposite. She seemed gentle and calm, though a little broken. She wasn't completely ugly, though she needed some Proactiv. And the flaws seemed to disappear in the presence of music.

Terrylee suddenly was aware of someone watching her. She hit a wrong note and her eyes flew open. "Oh! Gunner! I didn;t realize you were there."

Gunenr was startled as well. He'd been silent as a cat. "It's fine," he said. "Have you been seriousy playing for two freaking hours? It's lunch time."

GUnner sighed wearily and pointed at the clock. "11:25. I'd say so," he said with a shrug.

"Oh, cool." She stretched and got up. "I suppose I'll head home now."

He didn't want to say this. Not at all. "I can walk you," he suggested. "Or you can show me around this town. I don't know anything about it. Still."

Terrylee's face lit up like the morning sun. "I could show you around town!"

Amused, he rose an eyebrow. "Enthusiastic for someone who's stuck with a school outcast," he mused.

She snorted. "Like I'm not an outcast. I don't go to the same church as everybody else, and this was actually my first day in a public school."

"Whereas I don't go to church, and I just punched a popular kid dead in the face." He grinned. "Not that that second part's a bad thing."

Terrylee chuckled. "DOing that just made you the untouchable heartthrob of the whole school, you know."
