Are you a sap who likes to do 1x1's?

"I've already seen it." Raven rolled her eyes. "I'm probably the first on scene of any murder around here. You know the only reason I don't already feed on the murdered is because that's leaving my evidence at the scene of the crime."

"Well then you won't needto worry about leaving evidence any more, because I have first right to a body so I can solve the crime. I can provide food like that."

Raven nodded, a hungry look coming back into her eyes. "As long as I'm getting my fix of blood, I'll do whatever you want."

"All right," Antonio said with an air of satisfaction. "Then I need you back at the office with me to check out a series of photographs." And he began to walk back toward his office. "And if you're interested, you'll get fresh blood tomorrow if my hunch is correct."

Raven felt a delighted shutter at the thought. She would have blood handed to her on a silver platter, and some excitement. How could she pass this up. She followed Antonio like a loyal puppy dog.

Back in the office, Antonio flipped through all of the photographs taken of the bite marks on a recent death. The death was of a wealthy businessman, who was originally thought to be killed by his heir, but the heir was dead, and no one was mentioned in the will. Besides, he had gone bankrupt just before his death, so the motive of money was out of the picture.
"Do you know who did this, based on the diameter of the fangs?" he asked as he handed a photo to Raven. He was trying to sound scientific, but the mention of fangs somehow turned his investigation upside down.

Raven studied in a moment and sighed, shaking her head. "No, it's not like I study these things anyway. But tell me, are they all the same? Same space apart and same size? Is there an average strength of the the bite? Where the bottom teeth are used as leverage, some vamps leave a full scar, and it's hard to tell much with just pictures, I never got close enough to the boddies to tell."

"There are two patterns I have been seeing." He held up two photographs. "This one seems to be quite large with fangs spanning a reasonable distance apart and the bodies are quite dismembered. This other has narrow, small fangs that seem human-like. I am guessing one is of a werewolf, and the other of a vampire. That is, if werewolves exist."

"Werewolves are real, but rare, and besides, they don't go after humans like that except when-" Raven cut off. "It's a possibility that was done by a mix."

Antonio's eyes bugged. "A what?" he asked in shock. "A mix? A mix of what?" Questions swarmed his mind like ants to the corpse of a caterpillar, except these moved to the corpses of vampire kills, or, as he had recently found out, the victim of a "mix."

"Well even dead we're still fertile." Raven croseed her arms, "And when a vamp and a werewolf 'do it', what comes out is a mix. A mix, having never been human, has no conscience. They live upon blood and distruction, and the very, very, few that have ever existed, have killed thousands with all their kills combined."

"That's... friendly," Antonio replied sarcastically. "But it sounds like the lead that we needed. Tell me more about the behavior of a mix."

"Kill, hide, kill, hide." Raven shrugged. "That's pretty much the only pattern they show. But they're actually usually insanely bright and resourceful, despite what one might assume. Half the time they don't have emotions, while the other half the time the emotions are overwhelming to the point of madness, which is about the time they go out to kill."

"Ouch," Antonio said quietly. "Then if we're on the trail of one of those, we'll have to keep our guard up." The phone rang. Antonio grabbed it from its cord, and answered.
"Hello?" came the voice from the other line. "Is this the detective Antonio Ranston?"
"Yes," responded Antonio. "What is it?"
"We have another murder."

(wait-- must add-)

Antonio turned to Raven. "You hungry?" he asked.

Raven smirked. "Thirsty, yes." But that smirk faded. "If a vampire did it I can't drink it..." She added.

Antonio laughed half-heartedly. "It wasn't a vampire kill. It was an escaped convict with a gun very good aim. There's also a vampire kill, and we need to investigate both. You in?" he asked as he hung up the phone.
