"What does your dad do for living that you can just drop everything and move from place to place?",Nikki asked,"I mean, if you were my kid, I'd try and make you happy. Heck, if we ever get enough money, maybe I'll buy us a permanent house."

"He changes jobs all the time." Tory answered, "Libraran, real estate, that one was a bit ironic, postal service, fast food, janitorial, truck driving, he's been a lot of things." He couldn't help but think it was a bit weird to get a permanent house with someone you're just staying with.

"Oh.",Nikki mouthed,"I'm sorry, I don't see why one would need to keep on changing jobs. They say that if you love what you do, you never work a day in your life." That was what one of her friends, a garbage man, had told her one day.

"He's never happy." Tory stated flatly. He jumped when the automated light on the ceiling blinked on, then shrugged, "Once we get out and have jobs, he can't make me move." He glared at the lightbulb, surrounded by a metal cage to protect it. He wanted to smash that thing.

"Technically, you're his kid till you're eighteen, or at least that's the rule that I heard of.",Nikki said skeptically. She too, jumped when the light bulb flickered on. "Does that always do that?",she asked.

"Yes, it's probably so they can see us with the camera even when it's dark." Tory answered, shrugging. "And yes, I am still 'his kid', but if he can't find me, there's nothing he can do about that."

"Don't most parents put tracking devices somewhere on a child's item or something?",Nikki asked,"Or is that just in TV shows?" She had seen many TV shows and movies where adults tracked kids by planting a chip of some sort inside a childs' possession, or a child themself.

"I don't know, mine don't." Tory said, looking back down from the light, "And if they did, and I somehow hadn't noticed, they would know where I was right now."

"I wish they did.",Nikki stated honestly. "I imagine your parents to be nice enough people, to get not only you, but me as well, out of this mess." She wished there was a way to block the lightbulb, some way to cover it from revealing them to the camera.

"More likely they'd sit at 'home' and send police after us." Tory said with a small smile, "They might possibly come all the way over here to see me."

"Your dad might even get a job as a cop in the mean time while they're saving us.",Nikki said, attempting to joke about how quickly Tory's dad changed professions. She played with her hat in her hands and decided she would be able to cover the lightbulb if she got a boost. "I know how to make it dark in here.",she whispered. It might actually make it easier for her to rest.

"How?" Tory asked, looking at the caged bulb, then back at her. Seeing the hat, he realized what she was thinking. "Two potential problems with that. One; depending on how hot the lightbulb is, and how flammable your hat is...Two; does turning out the lights count as messing with the camera?"

"We'll they obviously won't be able to see us if the camera is all black, but weren't we trying to set the place on fire anyway? As kind of an escape route?",Nikki asked. She hated to destroy any property, but if it meant keeping her life she would.

"Well with all this concrete, if the hat caught fire it would just burn up and fall. Nothing would light on fire." Tory said. "And they might react the same to dark as a broken camera. I'm kind of fond of my fingers. What's your hat made of, anyway?"

"It's 100% acrylic.",Nikki said, once she reached inside the hat and pulled the tag off to check. "I'm not too good at science, so I wouldn't know if it would catch flame or not." She glanced up at the window again, would they be able to reach it if they were on top of eachother's shoulders?

"I think it would burn, if the bulb was hot enough, but it would be more of a melty drippy thing than flames." Tory said looking at the bulb, "It's probably not hot enough anyway."

((That's horrid!))
"It's not like they would wanna waist the electricity on us anyway.",Nikki said as she placed her hat back on her head. It was soft, so it would definitely make a good pillow for later.

"They aren't." Tory said bitterly, "Just wait 'till it gets colder."
