When We Say Goodbye (1x1)

Claire looked down at her paper and she knew not to keep her head down for too long, or her nose would begin to leak blood again. She began circling answers on her test after scribbling her name out in blue pen. She glanced up at Liam to see how he was going along, and he was looking at her. She thought it was a warm gesture that he checked up on her.

"You seem to be getting along pretty well," Liam commented in a low whisper. Doctor Andrews may be deaf, but he always seemed to realise when he was breaking rules. It was like a sixth sense.

"Hush, we'll talk after.",Claire whispered, barely audiable for anyone else around her to hear. She continued to scribble around on her paper and she raised her hand to ask Doctor Andrews a question. "Doctor Andrews, I have a question.",she said. "No you don't, that quiz is as straight foward as it gets." he said. Claire dropped her head back down to her paper. Doctor Andrews was getting worse with his old age.

Liam ripped a page out of the back of his notepad and scribbled a note to Claire on it.

What did you need to ask him? I can help you.

He slipped it across the aisle to her desk, coughing descretely so she'd notice it.

*He didn't bind the DNA proteins correctly for the review question about biology on number seven, and I don't know what to put.*,Claire wrote back.
Claire passed the note back and continued on her exam, getting almost every answer right except for number seven. Why did Doctor Andrews have to be so difficult? The world may never know.

Just put something stupid, then at least whoever's marking the papers can have a laugh, he wrote back.

He quickly finished the other questions on the paper and sat back, drumming his fingers on the table. A few people looked at him, annoyed and he stopped, feeling guilty.

Claire wrote in a letter e for the multiple choice and wrote the correct answer co.ckily. After answering the question she was done with the quiz. "Papers up.",Doctor Andrews said. "Once I collect them all you may leave my presence." Claire reached down to grab her back pack and put it on her shoulders. She didn't want to spend anymore time in his presence than needed. "What class do we have now?",she whispered over to Liam.

Liam checked his timetable and smiled. "Math ((get me, remembering to use American lingo :P))," he grinned. "Call me a nerd, but it's sort of my favourite class."

(I could probably comprehend your lingo. You're from the UK, right?)
"I like Math, not as much as English, though. Math is universal and the same all around the world.",Claire said. She got up out of her chair and began to walk to the door, but she was slow enough so Liam could catch up.

Liam walked beside her, his step keeping time with hers. "I like Math and Science because they make sense. There's one right answer and whatever you do, anything else you say will be wrong. You can learn them. But with English, it's about your opinion. And what if your opinion's wrong? What then?"

"There are some rules of English and those are in literature and grammar. There are some concrete answers, except when there's symbolism. Symbolism is whatever you can justify.",Claire explained. Claire looked like she was about to sneeze, but she didn't, she held her breath and it simply passed. She was afraid of sneezing, because she didn't want to get her blood on anyone else.

Liam paused, tilting his head to the side. "I still don't think it's the same," he countered. "Two people who get 100% in a Math exam would have to have the exact same answers. Whereas two people who got full marks in English could easily have completely different answers to everything."

"Yeah, I suppose you're right.",Claire said before she walked down the hall and reached the stairwell. "All I know is that my favorite period of the day is lunch." Claire knew that there would be a lot of drama going on at school today, after all it was one of the first days of school. People were coming in with different colored hair, new piercings and some freshmen even had braces.

Liam chuckled, his gaze drawn to a patch of sunlight that trickled through a window and landed on Claire's hair, lighting it up. It was beautiful. He blushed and looked away quickly, fidgeting with his fingers.

Claire walked up the east stairwell, and entered the second floor of the schoolhouse where the math room was. She looked behind her to see Liam blushing and it made her smile. Any girl that he ended up with would be the luckiest girl on the planet, but he obviously wouldn't want someone who was sick for the first week of school, so why bother? "Hurry up, slow poke, we're gonna be late.",Claire ordered teasingly as she waited for him at the top of the stair case.

Liam shook his head and followed Claire up the stairs. He wouldn't let himself think about her in that way again. She was a friend and if he tried to make her more than that it would probably ruin whatever there was between them.

"Come on, I'll race you to class," he called, already starting to run. "Who's the slow poke now?"

(( I hope you guys don't mind if I'm posting on this RP so I can find it later... it's awesome, and I want to keep reading it as it comes! I really love the plot-idea. It's sad, but I still like it. ))

(No worries, Clarity!)
Claire ran after Liam like a healthy kid would and tried to keep up with him as she entered the math class. She slowed down, because she didn't want to get into trouble with their math teacher. "You win, cheater.",Claire said teasingly. She took her seat at the back corner of the class so she wouldn't be called on as much.
