Lorica swore loudly as a blade swiped across her cheek. She swung her dagger through the air as she turned her horse to face the man who had done it. Glaring furiously, she stabbed him through the heart, a sick feeling in her gut as she did so.

She looked to see how Gawain was getting on and her heart almost stopped. A soldier was right behind him, sword raised for the fatal blow, and she didn't think he had seen him yet. "Gawain!" she screamed. "Look out!"

((Ah! Thanks.  Sorry I haven't posted in a few days... my family's been kind of busy. ))

At Lorica's scream, Gawain whirled around. There, right behind him, was a soldier, with his sword rushing down in what would be a fatal stroke. At the last second, Gawain's blade clashed against the solder's, inches from Gawain's face. He pushed hard, and drew the blades away from his head, before push-whirling his sword around, and stabbing the man through a hole in his defenses.

The battle was over quickly, with the remaining soldiers getting to their horses and galloping away. Lorica cursed. "They'll know about both of us now, and they'll be angry," she sighed. "We'd better get going. They'll be out for blood."

Gawain was slightly breathless from the exertion of the battle. Wiping his sword clean on the grass, he resheathed it, and turned towards Lorica . "You're probably right."  He walked quickly towards the bushes, to retrieve their horses.

Lorica vaulted effortlessly onto Wren's back and urged him forward. She was in the mood to talk - about anything really. "So, besides your father, who did you leave behind when you were exiled?" she asked.

Gawain mounted up on Hart, and followed Lorica back onto the road, continuing towards the heart of the kingdom.
Biting his lip, as he did when he was thinking, he answered her. "My mother. But I don't even know if I'm still supposed to call her my mother, since they disowned me." He gave a bitter laugh.
"I have a sister too... or at least I did. I don't know if she's still alive. Heck, I don't even know if any of my family's still alive." He looked at Lorica. "What about you?"

"Just my father, I'm afraid," Lorica replied sadly. "My mother died giving birth to me, and I don't think either me or my father ever forgave ourselves for it. I was sent away from home a lot and encouraged to play with the village children because apparently I look like my mother, and it hurts my father to be reminded of her. But I do miss my friends from the village. I just wonder how many of them have starved now."

Gawain stole another glance at Lorica. "I'm sorry about your mother. And I hope your friends are okay."
He looked ahead of him, and lightly touched the side of Hart with his boot, turning him onto the right path leading from a fork in the road they had come to.
"So... why were you exiled? What exactly did you do?"
He shifted in the saddle. "I know you mentioned that your friends turned you in, or something like that."

"It was a group of us," Lorica said, staring straight ahead into the horizon. "We decided enough was enough with the king and we planned to assassinate him. We got quite far, but then someone panicked and informed on us. The others in the group were hung for treason, but I was only exiled because I am - was - a nobleman's daughter." She paused to collect herself. "What about you?"

Gawain snorted. "You have a better story than I do! I just lost my head, getting fed up with King Maugrim, and started shouting my opinions at my father. He didn't agree, and as I mentioned a while ago, he puts king and law before justice and family. So, off to the king I was dragged. That just made me angrier, and I called the king some pretty darn awful names. They didn't have any 'murder plots' against me, so the worst sentence they could give me was exile."
He looked at Lorica admiringly. "You're pretty courageous, you know? Not many young women would try and do something actively against oppresion. Most of them just sit and sulk."

Lorica chuckled. "Most young women don't know the meaning of the word oppression, let alone that it's rampant throughout our country. I also knew that if I didn't keep out of the way of my father he'd try to marry me off to some rich old fool and I'd spend the rest of my days bringing up his snotty children." She wrinkled her nose. "I'm surprised you're not married though."

"Ha!" Gawain smirked. "Well, it wasn't for lack of my mother's efforts to get me a wife. She certainly tried hard."
He laughed. "Some of the girls she proposed were decent, but none of them had what I was looking for. Besides, they looked so fragile that I was afraid I'd break them if I tried to kiss one of them."
Gawain looked at Lorica again, perplexed. "So, the idea of marriage and raising kids doesn't appeal to you? I hate to bring most girls into this again, but its true that most girls i've ever met, that was what they looked forward to since age eight."

Lorica pondered that for a moment. "It's not that I'm strictly against marriage and children, per se. I just want it to be with someone I know and respect. But you're right; most girls aren't that picky. But then again, most men aren't as picky as you either." She smirked at him. "What is it exactly you're looking for? Made of rock for a start, presumably."

((Yeah, I'm here...  I'm so sorry. I want to continue this RP really bad, but I don't know if I can do it. A ton of stuff just appeared in my life that's cluttering up my brain and I never have time to post anymore. My mom has cancer, it's a rare and aggresive type, and potentially uncurable, so things are really weird around here right now...
So I may have to leave this RP for good, =( I really don't want to, but it's not fair to you since I haven't posted in forever, and I don't know when I'd be able to start posting regularly. I'm so sorry!! Feel free to use this plot with someone else, if you want... it was really fun while it lasted. Thanks for doing this with me! ))

((I completely understand and thanks for letting me know. I'm so sorry to hear about your mum and I really hope she gets better. She'll be in my prayers. Thank you for doing this roleplay with me :) I've really enjoyed it and I hope you find life a bit easier soon.))
