((So we decided they'd already been banished, right? So I'll start it off in the inn where they meet.))

Lorica perched on a stool in a gloomy corner of the ill-lit inn. She wanted to avoid recognition and she wasn't sure her disguise was enough. Her hair was swept back under a hat and she wore a long cloak which covered most of her body. She was hoping to pass as male because that would be better for her safety, but still, it wa better to lurk in the shadows than risk being noticed.

Gawain galloped up to the Green Dragon Inn, on his horse, Hart. He dismounted, and handed Hart's leading rope to a shrimpy little man who hurried out to meet him.
Handing the man a shilling, Gawain checked to make sure his hood was shading his face. He wanted to check the contents of the inn before he revealed his face.
He strode up to the door, and slipped through. Heading for a corner, he noticed that that particular corner was already occupied. Heaving an almost invisible sigh, he made for another corner, which was still empty.

((Not at all, Tolkein is awesome :D))

Lorica looked up at the hooded man who had entered the inn. She didn't think he noticed her particularly, other than a quick glance. Idly, she wondered if their were any other people in the pub who hated the king. She shoved the thought away. Even if there were, it would be too dangerous to reveal herself.

After surveying his surroundings, Gawain decided that it was safe to remove his hood. He lifted it off of his head, and shook his hair out of his keen eyes. He didn't recognize anyone, and that was good.
He glanced at the figure in the other corner. At first glance, he thought it was a slender man. But after gazing out the corner of his eye for a moment, he decided that it was a woman. Her disguise was well done though, and he doubted that anyone else would notice she was a girl.
Gawain's thoughts were broken off when the bartender spoke next to him.
"You buying anything?"
Gawain looked up quickly. "Oh-er, yes. Could I have a room, bread, and some ale?"
He tried to keep his voice quiet, trying not to draw attention to the fact that he was staying overnight. That wasn't safe- not when you had Gawain's kind of history.

Lorica glanced around and, making sure no one was watching her, slipped outside and around the back of the inn to the stables. She didn't have enough money to buy a room for the night and so she hid for the night in whatever stable her horse, Wren, was housed in. She always made sure he had enough money for him at least to have a proper place to sleep and food in the morning.

After eating his fill, Gawain slipped out of his corner, and headed up the stairs with the key that the landlord had given him.
He shut the door of his room behind him, and leaned against it. Safe for now. But if someone found out who he was, he'd be in trouble. Big time.  Yawning, he stripped off his cape, vest, belt, and weapons, and laid them at the ready by his bed.
Laying on the mattress, he tried to fall asleep. His fingers were unconciously fingering the tattoo on the back of his neck, that branded him as a traitor to the king. The king. Pah!

Lorica snuggled into the straw, trying to get comfy. It was cold so she pulled her cloak tighter around her body and tried to breathe hot air onto her shivering hands. Even when she was settled, sleep was a foreign concept. She had far too much on her mind - the king, her father, her exile. It all seemed hopeless.

Gawain fidgeted for about half an hour, and still couldn't fall asleep. He sat up. Deciding to pass the time by checking on his horse, he pulled on his cloak again.
He didn't bother about the vest. Shoving his feet into his boots, he pushed a dagger down one of them-just in case. You couldn't be too careful, when you were Gawain Halifax.
He crept quietly down the stairs, and out the door of the inn, sneaking past the nodding landlord who sat before the fire.
Once he had cleared the door, he stood up straight, and took a deep breath of fresh night-air, before pushing open the door to the stable.

Lorica sat bolt upright, listening hard. Was that footsteps? A moment more and her fear was confirmed. She buried herself in the straw, hoping the dim lighting would help her stay hidden. What would she say if she was caught?

Gawain shut the stable door behind him. It was almost pitch black, but the nickering of his horse at the smell of his friend was enough to tell Gawain where Hart was.
Passing several stalls, he thought he saw movement at the bottom of one of them, but shook his head, deciding it was just a horse. He was too paranoid.
Approaching his horse, he spoke to Hart, in a murmering tone.
"Hey, boy. How are ya, huh? Haven't happened to see a King's Soldier, have you?" Laughing to himself, Gawain stroked Hart's mane.

Lorica steadied her breathing, trying to remain silent. She prayed that Wren wouldn't give her away but making any sudden movements or sounds and strained to hear what the man was saying. She froze when he mentioned the King's Soldier, unable to tell if her was serious or not.

((Yay!))
Gawain continued to stroke Hart's mane, but he suddenly became alert. He sensed something... he was being watched. By whom, he had no idea.
He kept talking to his horse, just typical man/animal endearments, but his eyes were scanning around him. Gawain's eyes had become adjusted to the dark, and he could see much better now.

Lorica held her breath. Had the man noticed her? She wasn't sure. Anyway, how woul she explain her spying. She'd probably end up exiled again, and even further away from her goal of defeating the king.
