1x1 (Fantasy)(Ded.)(L.Lit.)

Okay, so plummeting like that made Violet feel a little sick, and she was a little pale. She simply nodded, unsure of how exactly she felt now. She knew she didn't feel such a need to be annoyed at Gable. Perhaps feeling suddenly sick was just too distracting.

She was glad to be off Irida's back. Well, actually, she was a little disappointed on that note. She was glad, though, to no longer be stuck behind Gable. Her first flight and it really wasn't too bad until the end. She kept telling herself that she'd get used to it the more she did it. She didn't want to get used to riding behind Gable though...

Gable grinned at Violet's expression. Landing the first time was always fun. Just wait until we have to perform evasive manuevers, Gable thought at Violet's expense. Irida preened. That was an excellent landing. I don't know what the human's looking so queasy for.

Irida gently opened her claws and let Krae tumble from them. Gable vaulted from his seat, legs buckling slightly from their period of unuse.

"I'm going to do a perimeter check. I'm sure you're capable of unloading the bags," he gestured to the packs hanging from Irida's back with an amused expression, talking as if though to a small child, "I will know if you've been rooting through my stuff, so I highly suggest not doing so."

He knew that Violet probably wouldn't think it beneath her to take a look around his belongings. Most of it, he wasn't worried about. He had a bow secreted in his sleeping roll and some skinning knives tucked into the folds of one of his bags.

No, the only thing he would possibly be worried about there was if Violet wanted to use one of those items against him. Again, he questioned his plan to train her. That would be incredibly ironic, to teach the girl to properly fight only to have her use those skills to kill me sometime.

He did have a satchel with personal defects in it, but nothing he thought would interest Violet. Keepsakes from the Dragon compound, a few momentos from his travels. A few lucky charms. Gable wasn't too superstitious, though he did believe in good and bad luck. It was for sure that he had most of the latter.

Violet was momentarily distracted by Krae, who seemed rather pleased to see her again, even if they hadn't been that far apart. Violet's face didn't say anything, but it was aparent in her body language as she knelt and petted Krae that she really loved her dragon.

She just barely caught Gable's words and rolled her eyes as she stood again. "I've got no reason to go through your stuff. Yet. So you can relax. For now."

She set to work on unloading the bags, which actually wasn't difficult at all. Violet had natural ballance and general ability to do such things. She was quick too, having everything down in a short time. Gable's stuff was left untampered with near Irida, while Violet took a moment to sit cross-legged with Krae at her side. He really loved being petted.

Gable snorted at Violet's words, but didn't bother responding. He walked lightly and stealthily in widening circles around their campsite, looking for any particular signs of habitation. As a quick afterthought, he picked up any dry sticks he found laying around for a fire. The nearest habitation was far enough that they wouldn't see the smoke.

Once he felt that he had covered enough area, Gable traipsed back to find that Violet had gotten all of the things unpacked, and was sitting, petting Krae. Gable dumped the pile of sticks on the ground.

"As much as I love that you're making progress with this whole happiness thing, why don't you make yourself useful and go find some rocks for the fire." Gable kicked some debris away from the area he planned to use for a fire.

"It's not hard to say 'please'..." Violet muttered, Krae seeming slightly upset by her suddenly worsening mood. Violet gave him one more quick pet before getting up and quickly finding suitable rocks for the fire. She was never good at starting fires though.

Couldn't he have Irida make a fire? She thought, although she didn't ask this outloud. It was easier not to argue, or question. She felt for the moment that she could do as asked, or rather told, without wasting time on it.

((I have an idea, do you think that Dragon Riders could have a rudimentary grasp of magic, which would be used through words. And, Riders would have different capacities for it.))

Gable raised an eyebrow amusedly (something that had taken him forever to learn to do) and began stacking the the sticks in a pyramid shape. He arranged the stones in a rough circle around the pyramid and sat cross legged next to it.

Irida was stretched out languidly, her serpentine head laying on the ground and her emerald wings folded neatly against her back. Gable felt that now was a good time for a quick lesson. He rumpled his sandy hair.

"That's enough stones for now. I have something to teach you, and if you pick it up fast enough it might dock a few points from your idiot scale," his voice was light an amused, but his countenance was something close to serious.

Gable had never had a firm grasp on magic. Sure, he could move objects, change opinions, call forth some elemental power here and there-- though his true ability lay with fire, but Gable was more known for his fighting ability and sharp tongue. By no means was he an excelled magician. But he knew enough to teach Violet some tricks.

It flashed across Violet's face that she was annoyed when Gable brought up the whole idiot thing. He was an idiot. She crossed her arms and looked at him carefully before raising a brow. "And what have you to teach mean, oh great master of teaching things?" Her voice was thick with sarcasm.

Whatever it was he wanted to teach her, she wasn't enthusiastic for another of his 'lessons'. For a moment Violet caught herself wishing for a moment of peace. She caught herself wanting to be alone. Yes...alone sounded so nice right now...

Gable shook a finger dissaprovingly. "None of that now. Just sit down so I can get the fire going, unless you're not hungry, because I know I'm positively ravenous." He knew for a fact that it irked people most sometimes when their hard efforts to annoy or irritate were met with calm amusement.

Violet definitely had 'the look' going for her. She positively radiated feelings of 'I don't want to be here...' "Well, this Great Master of Teaching Things is going to show the irksome student some pretty parlor tricks," his voice mirrored Violet's own heavy saracsm.

He cupped his hands over his mouth, and whispered inaudibly the Words into them. He loved fire Words. They were bright and feathery at the same time. Gable opened his palms, and a small flame danced across his calloused fingers. "Parlor trick," he said, smiling.

Violet wasn't impressed, although she was just slightly surprised. "So wait...because I have a dragon, I can do that?" A hint of skeptisism was there, although it disappeared rather quickly. Something in her seemed to just know that it was true.

She sat down across from Gable, her eyes watching the flame dancing across his fingers. Her arms were still crossed. "You're going to teach me how to do that?"

Gable's hazel eyes reflected the flickering light. "Yes, but no. It's simple enough, something you should be able to understand. Dragons don't just hatch for anyone. They have to have that innate spark in them. The spark that allows them to do this-" to punctuate his point, he blew into his hands, and the fire spread along the dry sticks.

"I will teach it to you. If can condecend a mediocum of respect for my highly repectable persona."

The Words of Power were tricky. Anyone with ill-intent and knowledge of the Words could wreck havoc. So, that's why when Dragon Riders were first introduced to the Words, they were taught to say a binding phrase that would limit the useage of the Words for an ill-intent.

"There's a phrase you have to say first. It unlocks the ability," Gable lied easily and smoothly, knowing that Violet would find trouble with being bound duly. He still was unsure of how to view her. And, he didn't know how adept she was at manipulating the Words.

"Repeat after me. I'll say it again if it doesn't come across the first time-" he punctuated this with a quick lift of his eyebrows, "Aithním na focail seo agus iad a úsáid le haghaidh fírinne."

Something inside screamed at Violet that something was wrong with what he said when he told her she had to say something to unlock it. He must have been a pretty good liar. No, he must have been an amazingly good liar. "And what if I don't want to say those words without knowing for certain why I get the feeling you're withholding something from me?"

Any trust she had for Gable was quickly slipping away. It was almost saddening to her that she couldn't trust him: the only person she had met that she had something in common with. Wait, what? How was she suddenly thinking like this? Gable wasn't her buddy. She didn't trust him. Just because they both had dragons didn't mean anything. But then...it did.

Gable's mouth quirked. "Then you don't learn how to use magic. It's pretty simple. What makes you feel that I am holding something from you?" Inwardly, Gable was uneasy. Violet seemed to finally be able to let her guard down for a few moments, and here he was showing that he didn't deserve that.

But, then again, she probably wouldn't ever figure out until she was settled at the Dragon Rider compound, at which then, Gable would be attempting to pass invasion plans through the Empire. Saying the phrase wouldn't do anything physically magical, no.

And then, there was that little fact that they were both Dragon Riders, and that he had taken up the partial reponsibility of teaching her enough to keep her on her feet until formal instruction. It was infuriating, to have all those what-if's. But Gable didn't contradict what he had said, merely kept a slightly impatient countenance, as if slightly bored.

Violet's eyes narrowed as she looked at Gable. "Do you want me to trust you, or not? If I said the phrase first, would you tell me what it really is? Because I'm doubting it's just some sort of activation." She might have disliked him, but she needed a reason to trust him.

Gable groaned theatrically. "Are my good intentions not sufficient enough? By the gods, you're a stubborn person." He weighed his options. Violet was certainly a smart person, but he didn't trust her in any degree to give her the power of the Words without any sort of restraint.

Gable rubbed his brow, finally deciding on a course of action. "Alright, I'll tell you every scrap of information about the phrase if you choose to say it." There. Well, maybe not every scrap.

"Aithním na focail seo agus iad a úsáid le haghaidh fírinne." Violet had remembered the phrase quite well, well enough that she didn't need him to repeat it for her to pronounce it properly.

She crossed her arms a looked at him expectantly, "Happy? I said it. Now spill."
