Gable looked at Violet out of the corner of his eye. She didn't seem all too concerned with leaving her home. It was kind of strange, to see someone so unconcerned with such happenings.

"Why Warvin? Why not Warvin?" he said, pushing his sandy hair back roughly, taking long legged strides. As Irida would say, he had an enourmous talent for finding the right ways to irritate people. Funnily enough, most people were irritated by jokesters.

Violet sighed, slightly shaking her head as she kept pace with him. She was actually getting tired of feeling annoyed with him, and was to the point of pretty much ignoring almost everything about him. But that tactic would only last so long before he'd get under her skin again.

"Just answer me, why are we going to Warvin?" Could he seriously not give a straight answer? "And if you're not willing to tell me, I might have to re-think traveling with you." Violet was not going to be willing to go with him without knowing at least a little of why they were going where they were going.

Gable squinted up at the sun filtering through the leaves and needles of the forest they had just entered, debating how much and what to tell Violet. Everything would have to be timed correctly, tidbits of information dropped at the right times to keep her from leaving, or knowing too much.

"I could tell you but it's class-ee-fied information. I will tell you that I'm on a mission with a message to deliver." There. That was more than needed to be known right now. Really, Warvin wasn't the real destination, but as far as Violet was concerned, it was.

Violet wasn't fully satisfied with this information, but decided she'd have to settle for it for now. Perhaps later she'd find out more, either once he trusted her more or once he slipped up. She thought it might be more likely for the latter to happen.

She didn't say anything after that, walking silently until they came to the dragons. Krae was ecstatic to see her alive and well, and also ecstatic to see that she hadn't abandoned him or anything. The moment he realized she was there, he rushed to her and started rubbing against her legs.

Violet smiled a little as she pet him, but that smile quickly disappeared when she remembered she was in front of Gable. Her lack of expressed love slightly confused Krae, but he continued to rub against her regardless.

Gable was slightly relieved when she didn't press him further, though he knew she was just waiting to pounce on any information that leaked out of his mouth. He would have to be extremely careful around her.

Irida let her feeling of mixed bemusement, happiness, and alarm wash over Gable, as she exchanged what transpired while he was gone, happiness that he was back, and alarm at the small wound on his arm. He reassured her quickly.

Relax, it's fine. No it had nothing to do with Violet. Actually, it did, but not in the way your thinking.

Gable looked out of the corner of his eyes at Violet as Krae greeted her. He raised his eyebrows in a bemused sort of way, as she seemed determined to appear happy in his presence.

Alright. Her loss. It'll be a miserable week for her then.

Though, it was slightly reassuring to see that the girl could do something other than look disgruntled. "Alright," he said aloud, "Reunion's over. We have to leave and cover some ground before nightfall." Gable secured the bags on Irida more tightly, before springing agilely onto her back. A trick he often employed to show-off.

Irida obligingly knelt to the ground, though, to allow Violet an easier way to get up. "Hop up, now." Gable patted the small space on the saddle behind him. "Irida can carry Krae in her claws, since he probably can't keep up."

It was slightly discomforting, to think of riding so close to Gable. But it was even more discomforting to think that Krae would have to be carried in Irida's claws. She didn't quite trust Irida; she was Gable's dragon, and that wasn't reassuring. Violet gave Krae a few gentle strokes on the head before climbing into the saddle behind Gable.

"How long, exactly, do you plan on flying before we stop?" Violet asked, trying to get an idea of how long she'd have to put up with the unpleasantness of being stuck behind Gable. She had completely ignored his showing off earlier.

Gable could almost feel Violet's discomfort as she sat behind him. He twisted around. "Around dusk," he supplied, "Here, see those cuffs near your feet? Stick your legs in them. Wouldn't want you flying off now, would we?"

He twisted back around, and secured his own legs. He neglected to mention that she would probably need something to hold on to, but Gable was half-hoping she'd find her own way to stay in the saddle without grabbing on to the only thing in front of her.

He sent a mental command to Irida. Head west for a bit, I think there's a town there. I don't want to stay there so keep your eyes peeled for any good sleeping places. Irida acknowledged his commands, and unfurled her brilliant emerald wings. She scooped up little Krae gently, and with a few hard flaps, was in the sky. The ground dropped away at a startling rate. Gable couldn't help but feel giddy with the thrill flying always gave him.

The feeling of flying put butterflies in Violet's stomach, but almost instantly she would have loved it, if it weren't for the embarasement that her arms had ended up around Gable's waist. Despite pride and whatever else, Violet's arms remained there until she felt slightly more stable, at which point her grip loosened.

Flying...it was exhilerating. The wind. The ground so far away. The speed. The strength of the dragon beneath her. She did love this feeling. She wondered if it would feel the same once Krae had grown up. But then, it occured to her that every dragon might be slightly different. Still, she found it hard to imagine that she'd enjoy riding Krae any less, especially when she thought of how riding Krae would not include having Gable in front of her.

Violet felt not need to say anything, and so she didn't. She liked the silence better. Friendly conversation was a bit of a waste.

Gable had his hands firmly around a spike in front of him, resisting at all accounts the urge to say something about Violet's arms around his waist-- but that wouldn't exactly be fair seeing how he had actually fallen off his first time partner-flying.

I remember that, Irida thought amusedly.

Shut up. You know it was because Hannon had purposely loosened the leg straps, he thought back viciously.

Also, if I recall, it was your manly inability to 'hug' the person in front of you.

I was seven. Gable stopped the argument by refusing to think any further than that, but Irida hummed with dragon laughter underneath them. Gable extricated himself from any other conversation with Irida by questioning Violet.

"Have you ever attempted communicating mentally with Krae before?" he asked, remembering that for now, he would have to play the part of teacher.

Violet shook her head, although she knew he wasn't looking; it was more of a habit. "No, not directly. But sometimes it seems like he gets an idea of what I'm thinking about." She thought to the few times Krae seemed to hear her thoughts. "Well...once perhaps."

She mostly kept her voice void of emotion, although she actually did kind of like thinking and -although it was to Gable- talking about Krae. He was her dragon. He meant a lot to her. If anything happened to Krae, it would really hurt Violet.

Was he really that bad? Usually, at the mention of a Rider's dragon, they would glow, but it seemed that Violet was determinedly trying to be an emotionless rock in his presence. Truth to be told, it was boring, and irritating to Gable who was used to needling everyone.

"Listen," he said, turning his head slightly to catch a glimpse of her, "You could've told me if you were going to be such a joykill. As your teacher for the moment, I am telling you to talk about Krae without sounding like a rock." he shook his head, "It's not natural to supress the natural joy that comes from a Dragon and a Rider," he said, momentarily quoting something that one of his own teachers had told his class once.

Violet slightly tensed, her eyes falling. It was hard to allow herself to express emotions before someone who kept manipulating them by being nearly unbearably annoying and irritating. "Fine." She said, her voice low, almost like a growl.

She took a deep breath, looking out at the sky. What he asked of her was a near-impossible feat. She could not simply start letting herself show happiness or joy, not when she hated and distrusted Gable so much. Still, she'd at least try, mostly because she knew it was probably a bad idea to go bottling her good emotions away anyway.

Even though she was sitting behind him, Gable's eyebrows shot up. "So, that's your interpretation of natural joy?" he let out a short, low laugh, "I'd really hate to see irritated now. I'll let you in on a secret. There's this thing called 'smiling'. It's not too difficult, I'm sure you could do it with some practice."

It was a complete mystery to Gable why Violet couldn't just relax. Even if she was around someone she obviously disliked. Severely.

Violet scowled, but forced that scowl away. "Well I'm not happy anymore, so I have no reason to smile." She had just indirectly admitted to having been happy. It wasn't much, but it was a step in the direction Gable was trying to get her to go.

The problem was, Violet had been hurt before, and she usually kept herself guarded, unless she really trusted someone, which she rarely really did. What reason did she have to trust Gable? What promise did she have that he wouldn't use her emotions against her if she let them out? None.

Gable tsked dispassionately. "Great gods above! At least we know you're not completely incapable of being happy." He acted like life was all one big joke, a persona that helped immensely in being under-estimated.

Before he could delve much further into the matter, Gable's eyes caught a spot on the ground that would make a perfect resting place.

Irida--

Gable didn't even need to finish the mental command, the intent clear through his thoughts. Irida folded her wings and plummeted towards the ground, pulling short above the treetops. Gable twisted around, a sly grin on his face. "Oh, yes, I forgot to mention. We'll be stopping here."
