He might have been ready, but Violet was still quick. The dagger from her boot was at his throat in the blink of an eye. "Sharp, pointy weapon." She said, before slipping her dagger back into her boot. and starting to walk again.

"But I'm more of a 'kill you in your sleep' type of person." She said over her shoulder darkly.

If Gable was at all unnerved by the swift appearance of the weapon, he quickly masked it. But showing around weapons and threats were not something to be tolerated. No, not when his insults and own threats were light hearted an amusing.

Swiftly, Gable snatched her wrist and twisted, it in a grip he had often executed against the other boys in Dragon Rider compound when rough housing. It was hardly painful-- if pushed any further it really would be-- and it assured that the person would get no where.

Gable's eyes were sharp, the mask of amusement, gone, but his tone was still pleasant, though slightly dangerous. "Lesson number one. Showing weapons unless in a perilous situation or for practicing is a big 'no-no'."

He dropped her wrist and pushed her away gently. Gable's dry saracastic humorous appearance was back. "As for killing me in my sleep, you'll find that you'll be hard-pressed to accomplish that!"

Hatred. Violet's eyes were full of hatred. She rubbed her wrist where he had grabbed it, wishing she could hit him but knowing he'd probably block any blow she tried.

She was too small and weak to win out with strength in anything, which was what she meant by the comment of killing someone in their sleep. She meant killing someone in a moment that they were not aware. She dropped it through, turning her back on him yet again without another word.

Truth to be told, Gable was slightly concerned. Sure, he was confident that he could stop an attack in his sleep, what was training for anyways? No, it was the fact that he actually thought that Violet was capable of doing such an act.

Anger. Hatred. Rage. Keeping a cool head was imperative to being a Dragon Rider. Riders fueled by darker emotions never rose in the Rider ranks. They were too rash. Too ready to make bad decisions. Well, Gable made terrible decisions. But he did those willingly.

Which didn't count. Or at least, not in his view. Mostly because those bad decisions saved his life on some occasions. Gable decided that Violet would need some time to simmer, so he followed two steps behind her, but whistled merrily.

His whistling was annoying, but Violet tried to tune Gable out completely until they finally came out of the trees and in sight of her village/town/whatever. For some reason, she felt slightly discomforted with the idea of Gable knowing the place she lived, let alone walking through it. Nevertheless, she continued forward.

When she came to her small house, she was relieved to find that no one was home. Good, she could leave a note and be through with it. She let Gable come in, but didn't invite him any further as she went to her bedroom and grabbed only the belongings that were absolutely necessary. It wsa important to pack light.

Gable leaned against the doorway, and scrutinized the place critically. He always did a safety sweep in unknown places. It was habit, to find good areas to fight off attackers, places to run to, escape routes.

Violet's hometown reminded him greatly of his, though he hardly remembered it, it still sent a small pang of homesickness through him. Of course, his village had been situated near the water. But the structures were still the same, and there was still that close-knit feel about it.

Gable was young when Irida hatched for him at the compound, and he had hardly left it since except for field trips, expeditions, and other activities. Only full Rider's were allowed access anywhere. The ones still in training needed to do just that, and be watched. A rogue Rider would cause a lot of damage.

Gable was about to call for Violet to hurry up when a trio of Empire soldiers walked up the gravel road. They seemed to be headed towards Violet's house. Gable knew that it would look mighty suspicious to duck or make a break for it, so he remained casually leaning against the door frame.

"Good afternoon," he said pleasantly and conversationally. A soldier with a thin mustache stepped up.

"Is this your residence?" he asked in superior tones. "Yep," Galb replied, eyes dancing from one soldier to the next, "Is there anything wrong?"

"Is there anyone else who lives here with you?" the mustached soldier pressed on. Gable broadened his smile. "Oh, yes. My sister--" he turned into the house and yelled, "Hey! Vi! Got your hunting stuff?" Gods above, play along once you come out here. Let's hope you're as smart as I think you are.

The soldier's exchanged glances. "Yeah, we were going to take a jaunt out in the woods. Hard times, you know? Ever since our dad passed away, and our ma's ill-- at the apothecary now-" Gable's lie wound itself out easily.

Violet scowled at the nickname but her scowl disappeared when she saw the soldiers, coming out of her room. Perhaps it would have been better had she been listening a little more carefully, but her face didn't give anything away of her thoughts. "Ready Gable," She said in a sisterly tone as she came up to his side. Her eyes swept over the soldiers briefly, taking in appearances, weapons, strengths, and potential weaknesses.

Please don't let me end up having to fight to get out of this place. I might actually want to be able to come back someday... Then Violet remembered the note she had yet to leave, but decided against writing it right now, unless she had a chance before they went in which she wasn't worried about getting into trouble.

As soon as Violet showed up, the soldiers exchanged skeptical glances. Gable and Violet were polar opposites, and too close in age. There was no way in any world that the soldier's would believe they were related. And Gable had the feeling that the whole 'adopted child' strategy wasn't going to work out quite well either.

"Well, then Sirs, we'll be on our way if you don't mind-" The mustached soldier put a hand out to stop Gable, bumping into his chest. "Now, we need to ask you and your sister a few questions-" before the rest of the words came out, Gable shot a look at Violet, then he grabbed the man's head and slammed it into the doorframe.

The second guard's sword was out of his sheath in a second, as the third guard went for Violet. Gable didn't want to spill blood, not today, he merely dropped to the ground as the second guard took a swing at him.

Violet didn't have strength, but she did have swiftness. She dodged the third guard, but had no way of bringing him down without possible bloodshed, which was something she wanted to avoid at her own house. So basically she was stuck dodging and weaving.

This is rediculous! Violet thought to herself in frustration. She'd certainly need to learn to actually fight in the future, because she wouldn't always be able to dodge like that.

Gable grabbed the soldier's leg and pulled it out from under him, then scrambled back as the soldier, fell, sword flailing. "Night night," Gable said cheerfully as he delivered a sharp kick to the downed soldier's head, insuring he wouldn't be getting up in a while.

He turned, and to his dismay, saw that Violet wasn't having too much luck with the soldier attacking her. This is the last time I assume someone can fight, he thought irritably, unsheathing his sword, mostly to catch attention. It worked.

This soldier was slightly more practiced than the other. He swung, but Gable deflected it with the flat of his sword, then aimed a kick towards the man's chest to shove him backwards during the momentary distraction. "Why don't we put down the swords and talk like civilized men?" Gable interjected.

He took the sword whistling his way as a 'no'. Gable ducked it, and continued talking. "Though, I'm not sure you count as civilized. Last itme I checked, civilized men don't attack little girls-" Violet's gonna make me pay for that later, "-with swords." The soldier didn't make any reply, but he was clearly not highly ranked, as the comments were distracting him.

Gable was slightly enjoying himself when he avoided a blow to late. A slash of pain seared itself on his upperforearm. The soldier took advantage of the momentary distraction to raise his sword, but Gable swung his own and caught the soldier in the side of the head with the flat of his blade. The soldier dropped like a rock.

Gable sheathed his sword and examined the shallow cut on his arm. "Oh no," he said mildly, "It looks life threatening. You don't suppose I'll bleed to death"

Violet rolled her eyes, "Don't be a baby," She was being sarcastic as she snatched up a scrap of paper and wrote something up, leaving a note on the table for her family. At least now they'd know she wasn't kidnapped or anything. Well...unless this counted as kidnapping considering how unwilling Violet was to be stuck with Gable.

Her attention turned more fully to Gable, although it was slightly on the three soldiers. "Sorry..." She muttered, obviously finding it hard to apologize to him, "That I don't know very well how to fight..." She just didn't quite know how to make up for her disadvantages, or how to use someone's strength against them.

Gable rolled his eyes. "I don't suppose you're going to offer me something to bind this?" he remembered all the lessons ground into him and the other Riders at a young age about medical care. He could almost see Healer Marion brandishing her walking stick threatening,y.

Gable looked at Violet, surprise on his face. "Sorry for being an uneducated country bumpkin? A lot of Riders start out like that." Like me, for one. But there wasn't a single reason why Violet should know that. "Anyways, if you're to be traveling in my stimulating company, you'll have to learn how to fight. Fortunately for you, I happen to be top in my class," he boasted.

Inside, Gable was mentally smacking himself. Way to go. Go get yourself tied up with dead weight on a mission in which speed is imperative. Well, maybe Violet may prove to be handy. After all, things looked a lot more serious from the business end of a knife.

Violet rolled her eyes again at his boasting as she got a bag of medical supplis out and set it on the table. She dug through until she found something to bind his wound with.

"Do you want help or are you going to take care of it yourself?" She asked, turning to face him again. She wasn't big on helping him, but if she was going to be stuck with him, might as well get used to it. She wasn't even certain where they were going, or exactly why Gable would have her travel with him in the first place.

It started to bug her actually, not knowing for certain why Gable would bother to have her with him, especially since she was mostly dead weight right now. What benefit did he get out of this? Surely he wasn't having her along purely for his amusement?

Gable quirked an eyebrow. "I'm a big boy, I can take care of myself." he said amusedly, taking the roll from her, and tore a strip off with his teeth. Clumsily, with one hand, he wrapped the binding around the cut and tied it with his teeth and free hand.

"So, got your stuff packed, sister?" he couldn't resist. But it would have to be their story, traveling from town to town. Questions were dangerous, and there was no one better at creating a believable story than Gable. Or so he liked to think.

Gable rolled the binding back up. "Actually, it's too bad your too feminine looking. We could've cut off all your hair, make you into a boy," he mused out loud. If Violet was going to be with him, there was definitely some things to be taken into account. Especially since it seemed the Emperor had gotten wind of her and Krae.

Violet scowled, putting the bag of supplies away and retrieving her belongings. "Is that the story you're going with? Because it doesn't seem to me like it works very well." She nudged one of the unconcious guards with her foot and looked at him pointedly. "It's not a very believable story."

Gable walked past the unconscious soldiers. "How about this, then. "We're cousins. Your widowed mother, my aunt, passed away tragically, and you came into your mother's sister's care. But fortunately for you, you and your male cousin get along famously. Unfortunately, disaster strikes my family days before you are expected when my very wealthy uncle dies, leaving money and property. So, my parents go to get the deeds left in his name, but I stayed behind to meet you. So, here we are, the two cousins, traveling together to meet up my parents in Warvin."

Gable spread his hands out. "Convincing enough? Of course, we'll have to create some childhood memories to 'share'. But," he threw her a sly look, "If you don't like that idea, we could also be young love, on our way to get married in Warvin. Though, why someone would want to get married in Warvin beats me..."

So they were on their way to Warvin? Why? Violet shrugged it off. She'd inquire about their destination and reasons later. Right now, there was the story he just brought up.

Violet's expression went sour when Gable mentioned them being young love. Not in a million years. "That's a very thought-out story, considering the one you had a second ago." She observed, before sighing. "I guess the story of cousins will work. Although, I can't garantee I'd pull off that part about getting along." She gave a grimace, "I don't play well with others."

Gable shrugged, pleased. It was one of his better backgrounds. He'de have to remember that for later, it was always good to have a back up story when you forgot to plan one in the first place. "I have my moments. And that, dearest cousin, is what acting is for." he said merrily.

Gable took a soldier by the arms and hauled him into a sitting position. He did so to all the soldiers, so they were all sitting with their backs to each other. After he was done, Gable brushed off his hands.

"We need to be going. It'll be too dark to fly soon, and I don't want to be in this area." Gable knew at some point he would have to divulge some information to Violet. But what he intended to do was to get her all the way to Warvin, where a friend of his would be able to take her to the Dragon Rider compound. He already pegged her as a stubborn girl, and thought it would be easiest to tell her when they were there. Then he could complete his mission solo.

"Well I'm done here, so let's go." Violet said, although she did take a moment to grab a small throwing knife from a drawer in the kitchen before stepping outside. Leaving home...it was something she was actually rather okay with. She didn't have much attatchment to the place, or the people. She didn't have much attatchment to anything at all.

"So why Warvin?" She was going to save the question for later, but she prefered it now, since Gable seemed serious for the moment. She was lacking the patience not to know anyway.
