Nico let Maria slide her fingertip on his jaw line, let it trace the smooth skin underneath. looking on her, he felt no more desire, though still regarded her beauty.
"I would want to die by a bullet." He replied."It would be quick, simple. In the heart or brain, of course. No need for unessicary pain." He airily explained, shrugging. He arched an eyebrow, a bemused grin marking his lips."Sulk in the shadows?" He repeated, amused."Ah, no. I will fight back when provoked." He finger slide over the small bump, forgetting it was there."I'm sorry I'm making your job harder." He said, not sounding apologetic in the least."I guess I'm the kind of gentleman who blurs lines. You say I am innocent." He repeated, his pupils a dark black surrounded by an equally dark deep brown."I find that confusing, considering I have stolen and done many other sinful things in my life."
Maria grinned at his detachment, the way he had faded away so quickly. It was something she herself was accustomed to doing for her job, the way she ended lives so quickly...
"You and I see different. Pain is the only thing we have in our lives that is real, so why not experience the most of it that we are given? Should I die by bullet, highly doubtful, I'd rather be taken to he.ll slowly. You say you're not innocent, but we're not seeing the same thing here. Your soul is innocent. Your body is corrupt."
Maria's hair blew gently in the breeze, the curls all tangling into each other. "You'd be good at my job, dark man," she muttered. "But I don't see you joining us."
Nico nodded, scrutinizing her.
He took in the overwheliming beauty of her face, her body. Just trying to memorize it."does this mean you are going to kill me/" He asked, his voice calm and casual."Or do we depart as friends?" He added, tilting his head. He wouldn't be surprised if she had weapons in that oh so tight corset of hers.
Maria grinned widely, but this time it wasn't quite so beautiful as before. This time it was gruesome, a lion's expression before it took down it's prey. Teeth bared, upper lip curled in the expression of threat, the soft curls and kind white face having turned into the expression of a murderer.
Before Nico could react, Maria had shoved her knee in his groin, knocking him down to the ground. She slammed him over the head with her tiny fist, suprisingly strong for someone so small. Digging through her skirts, she pulled out a small handg.un, fully loaded and the safety off.
"No, darling Nico. This is how we recruit new members."
Maria shoved the point of the gun at Nico's head, ready to fire. "Alex!"she shouted to the forest behind them.
A man waltzed out of the trees, very obviously Egyptian in race. He had short, spiked black hair, olive skin, and was well over six feet tall with eyes so dark green that they were almost black.
"Maria," he greeted her warmly, pulling a pair of handcuffs from his jacket. "Sorry I took so long, I had some unfinished business to take care of..."
"The driver?" Maria asked, grinning. "I thought you would have gotten rid of him by now."
"These things take time," Alex murmured back. "I just threw him back into the woods." He removed a pair of bloodied gloves from his hands. "Void of my fingerprints, of course."
Maria nodded to him, motioning to Nico. Alex handcuffed Nico, kneeling down on the ground next to him. He was clad in a pair of old blue jeans and a grey t-shirt, very nondescript.
"Nico," he rolled the name over his tongue. "We've been watching you. Two months, I think. We need you to join us. I mean, you really don't have much of a choice... but if would be nice if you were willing. How do you feel about being one of us? About being a hitman?"
Nico had to admit, he wasn't surprised. Oh no, he regarded Alex with steady brown eyes, his expression unwavering. The handcuffs were cold against his skin, his groin still sllightly stinging, his head probabaly bruised. Despite this, his heart firmly beated. "Alex." Nico repeated, trying the name on his curved lips."I will join you, despite my morals. Like you said, I don't have much of a choice anyways." He paused, his famous smirk and humorous expression painting his face."what a shame; I always wanted to be a show girl."
"Sido!" he called after her, following her quickly
Selina was still standing on the edge of the crowd. She was just about to accept a dance from the first guy to ask her when a woman with dark hair and a dark gown ran by, knocking her down. She felt her face getting hot as she looked at the young man and saw amusement in his eyes. She took off towards the beach with tears in her own.
Alex grinned, his dark brownish-pink lips pulling up menacingly. "I'm sure we could find you a little dress, darling," he snickered. "Maria's got a whole wardrobe full of costumes by now."
Maria rolled her eyes, kicking Alex gently with her foot. "Shouldn't we explain it all to him first? Can't send him out on the job unless he knows what to do."
Alex sighed, nodding. "Maria will explain it all to you, this is her favorite part."
As Alex stood up and moved out of Nico's sight, Maria moved to sit on the sand right before his kneeled form. "Don't stand up," she said curtly. "Or we'll just shove you back down."
"Congratulations, you're officially a hitman. Not a good hitman, we don't do good. Good is for people who are heading to heaven, not us. Our jobs are people like presidents, mayors, members of the FBI and such. People who are always guarded. You run the risk of death with every move you make, so make sure your every move is perfect."
Maria reached once more into the pocket of her skirt and drew out two masks, her own from the ball, and one more nondescript black one. "You have to wear a mask," she muttered as she tied her own back on. "That's why I chose here to come to you. You and Alex wear plain clothes, stuff that everyone else would wear. He's got extras for you. And gloves, you have to wear the gloves. No fingerprints. Please. Most of the time Alex and I will be the ones shooting the guns until you can learn what to do."
Maria gave Alex a glance, motioning to him. Immediately, Alex pushed a gun to Nico's head. "Careless," she scoffed at him. "Watch it, next time, Alex."
Alex laughed a bit, a musical sound. "Like Maria was saying, I've got clothes for you to wear. We'll have to cut your hair like mine. And sorry, showgirl, but Maria's the one wearing the dresses here. She's the bait, and usually the one who calls the shots. Don't challenge her when she does, cause you might end up being the one shot."
They gave Nico a moment to comprehend before continuing on.
Sido tryied to disappear in the crowd.
Nico listened aptly, his brown ees more focused. his eyes frequently flickered back and forth between Maria and Alex, soaking up what he could, remembering what he could. He ought to have be terrified; but oddly enough, he wasn't. They reminded him of his own people on the streets. It wouldbe too hard to be afraid of them, just too hard.
Even when Alex put the gun to his head, he felt no fear. Just curiosity. Was he trying to intiminate him? Was this the end?
He finally noticed Maria paused, staring at him. He blinked, resurfacing."Make every move perfect, always wear gloves and never question Maria."He repeated, titling and eyebrow."Who exactly do we kill? And I'll guess i'll cope; even though I really wanted to wear a ravishing corset." Nico sighed, his lips twinging into a smile.
Alex grinned wildly, loving Nico's dry sense of humor. "I'm sure we could find a little number for you in Maria's closet. Who do we kill? Well, showgirl, that all depends on who's causing trouble today."
Maria scoffed at Alex's reply. "Everybody causes trouble, Alex." Turning to Nico, Maria grimaced. "We answer to our higher-ups. They find us, tell us who's next, and then we do the job. We usually have a few weeks between jobs to clean up our act, move on and destroy all evidence of our existence. We cannot show up in picture, cannot be caught on film, cannot be noticed. Ever. If you get caught, you get killed. Immediately."
Maria reached deep into her dress skirts and pulled out a small capsule, deep purple in color. She placed it in Nico's pocket. "If you get caught, bite down on this pill and you'll be over. No pain, nothing. It's quick."
Nico nodded, intent. "I see." he mused, sounding faintly interested. Excitement, strangely enough, was bubbling inside of him. Oh, he knew it was wrong to kill people, but to keep himself alive, he'd do it. It was just natural survival mode for him. The throbbing of his wrists brought him back to the staring faces of Alex and Maria."Two things," he eenly said."One, would it be possible for you to un handcuff me? The metal isn't good on my skin. and two-" he paused, a small smirk on his lips."Both of you aren't dating, are you? Because if you both were, I would have never guessed."
Alex smirked, wrapping a hand around Maria's waist. Immediately, she shoved him off, stepping swiftly a foot away. "No," Alex chuckled. "We're not dating. It would do you good to learn now that Maria does not... settle down, I suppose you could say. To tame her is like to try to tame a wildfire. There is no chance; it's already out of control."
Maria grimaced, the corners of her mouth pulling down to make her look like a sad puppy, her eyes surprisingly wide, her mouth in a deep pout. "Oh, Alex," she sighed. "You make all the new people scared of me! I'm not really all that bad!"
Alex laughed out loud, bending over forward and putting a hand around his stomach. "She's our little flame, and I suppose that explains her preference for the color red and spanish dancing..." He continued to laugh, enjoying a private memory with himself.
Maria rolled her eyes at Alex and took the key from his back pant pocket. She unlocked Nico's handcuffs, putting them into the pocket of her dress. "Don't try to run," she warned. "We have the area secured, and I think you'd rather not meet the rest of our friends."
nico rubbed his wrists, stnading up and shaking his head, ruffling his curly hair.
"I need to get my shoes." he announced, putting them back on. He thought alex was quite the comedian for a murderer. He shrugged the thought off, standing up, looking pretty prim and proper considering what happened in the past 20 minutes. He replayed alex's words about Maria. He didn't doubt any of them."So, I'm guessing I have to live with you now?" He asked, swaying on the spot, giving a slight grin."I'd love to raid your closet." He said to Maria, showing his full smile.
"Sido!" Jake chimed, they were now in the middle of the dance floor, the spotlight on them. for the best couple dance. Sido stopped but didn't turn, he stepped forward, lightly placing a hand on her sholder,"May i have this dance"
Maria smiled wildly, looking every bit like an animal in that moment. In just a few minutes she'd changed from proper beauty to a feral murdress. Yet Alex seemed anything but an murderer; he was as casual as anybody off the streets.
"You'll need to live with us, yes." Alex was the first to speak, watching Nico's every move with narrowed eyes. "Right now we're living in an abandoned house just a few minutes down the street. Make sure nobody sees you enter or exit the house. Secrecy is the most important aspect of your life now."
Maria pushed Alex playfully, ruffling his hair with her hand. "It's not as stressful as he makes it out to be. Actually, it's simple. You recieve the instructions, you follow them, and then you move on." She shrugged nonchalantly. "I've been doing this since I was fifteen."
Alex tensed a bit, his face hardening. "I make it too stressful, but she's far too casual about the jobs. We were supposed to get a man in India, had been warned that he might overpower us, and Maria still took it too lightly. Got ra.ped, almost got murdered herself that night-"
Maria growled at Alex, a terribly feral noise. "I don't want to hear about that," she snarled. "That was once. One mistake. I learned from it."
Alex shuddered nonetheless. "The state I found her in that night... I thought I'd be finding a dead man in the alley, not a bloody and battered Maria with only shreds of her clothes and skin left." At the last few words his voice grew tight, his throat choking the rest of his conversation back.
Maria noticed his distress, wrapping a hand around his waist and pulling him tight to her side. "Let's lead Nico home, okay?" she murmured to him softly. "Ready, Nico?"
she smiled a bit, and nodded.
They started to dance, their hands intertwined, the music played softly, sweeping them across the dance floor, "I'm sorry"
She shook her head. "It's fine."
Jake dipped her in tune with the music, "No it's not. I miss understood you." he said, they were keeping their voices down
