Me? Pessimistic? XD
I'm actually a very optimistic person, so I find your comment that my view is pessimistic to be rather funny. :P
Although, I can completely understand why you'd say that. It is a rather pessimistic view, but it's a view based largely on the Bible, not just my personal observations.
The Bible is clear that the world will degrade morally as the world nears its end. And through studying prophecy, I can see that the end is very near.
I'm not sure if we've discussed this before, but I know I have mentioned once or twice that I believe humans are de-evolving rather than evolving. We may have better technology and more knowledge, but we're all still sinners who have turned our backs on God and truth.
Our only hope is Christ our Saviour.
As for your question about the Sun News Network...
Yes, I do consider it a news source.
The thing that you have to understand about the SNN is that they are very open about the fact that they are reporting from a hardcore, right-wing Conservative perspective. They are aware of their bias and they freely admit it. So anyone who is watching the SNN likely has the same ideologies (like me) or are at the very least aware of which way the SNN is leaning.
I much prefer this to the mainstream media who claim that they are non-partisan and unbiased when they are actually all left-wing Liberals who worship at the feet of Trudeau.
I think the true propaganda comes from the mainstream media, because they slant everything to a Liberal view, but don't inform their audience of that fact. It's quite deceptive, really.
That is why I prefer getting my news from the SNN. I know they will give me news that is viewed through a Conservative lens, but I am okay with that. In fact, I am glad of it. Also, I love Ezra Levant. That dude is amazing. :3
"the videos it posted were little more than sound bites taken out of context to make whatever the Canadian equivalent of the Democratic Party look bad."
The Liberal party. That's the Canadian equivalent of the Democratic Party. And with a leader like Justin Trudeau it's not hard to make them look bad. XD (Figuratively speaking, of course. Trudeau's face--and especially his hair--is anything but bad-looking. *swoons*)
Anyways, as I was saying... How the SNN portrays the Liberals is no worse than how mainstream media portrays the Conservative party. But at least the SNN admits that they are advocating for the Conservatives and are against the Liberal party. This sort of honesty can't be said of the mainstream media networks.
And thanks, Quantum, for the appreciation. I appreciate your respect for me and my beliefs. You're an awesome guy, and even though we've never met in person, I still consider you a good friend. I wish you all the best in life. :)
God bless. ♥
half.note: Fair enough. I get that it admits its bias. That's fine. I also realize that traditional media isn't as objective as it should be. Still, I don't think blatant propoganda-based news solves the problems. To be honest watching those Ezra Levant videos mocking and belittling people (even if perhaps in some cases they deserve it) makes me feel a little sick. The other side of the political camp does it too - so don't think I'm just calling out your news source. I guess at the end of the day such unthinking fundamentalism of all types - liberal, conservative, whatever - just really bothers me.
Anyway...mini rant over. Its good that they at least honestly present that they are a biased source.
And, on the other tack - right back at you. While we totally don't see eye to eye on some things, you're also one of the few people I feel like I can openly share my ideas and thoughts with, which given my personality and interests is a huge deal.
Also, speaking of never meeting: when we're all thirty with enough money for a plane ticket we should all meet up. That would be kind of cool.
"Also, speaking of never meeting: when we're all thirty with enough money for a plane ticket we should all meet up. That would be kind of cool."
"when they are actually all left-wing Liberals who worship at the feet of Trudeau."
Here you go with the conspiracy theories again...
"How the SNN portrays the Liberals is no worse than how mainstream media portrays the Conservative party."
lol... have you ever even looked at CNN? You seem obsessed with painting this as a narrative of the honest conservative little man vs. the deceptive left wing big bully news, as if mainstream news is the closest liberal equivalent to what you watch.
But that's not the case at all. There already are liberal equivalents to the conservative pundits you mention - people like Bill Maher, Jon Stewart, etc. Those are the lefties. Mainstream new There is such a thing as liberal media, for sure, but Fox, MSNBD, CNN, and co. are simply not part of it. Mainstream news is in the middle, sorry to break it to you.
And let me remind you that Fox continues to outrank CNN and MSNBC in viewership, as if it wasn't obvious enough already that that the idea of a left-wing mainstream in news is utterly ridiculous and silly.
stuntddude: Agreed. Mainstream media is not the equivalent of conservative media like the Sun News. There is a liberal equivalent which is just as biased, but mainstream media (while not without its flaws) is not it.
I think you're forgetting that I'm Canadian, stuntddude. :P
But perhaps I should have clarified that when I refer to "mainstream media," I meant mainstream media in Canada, such as the CBC, CTV, and Global.
Anyways, this is what I've observed:
Pretty much every mainstream media news network (in Canada) tends to portray Trudeau in a positive light while they attack and criticize Harper's Conservative government. It is clear when watching news reports or reading articles by these networks that the reporters are generally Liberal and give a left-wing view, yet they claim to be objective and unbiased.
The Sun News Network is different. They are pretty much the only news network in Canada that gives the opposing right-wing view. And they're very open about it. The understand that they're the black sheep in Canadian media.
"Here you go with the conspiracy theories again..."
It's hardly a conspiracy theory, mon ami. It's easy to see the mainstream media's love for Justin Trudeau (heck, I'm a hardcore Conservative and I'm tempted to vote for the guy XD). They will intentionally leave out his blunders while covering trivial matters that they think makes him look good (for example, his trick of balancing a baby made it onto the 2nd page of a major newspaper, while his uninformed rants about Islam and terrorism go unmentioned).
"Still, I don't think blantant propaganda-based news solves the problems."
Propaganda: "information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view"
Perhaps the SNN is propaganda in the sense that it's trying to promote Conservatism, but it's not misleading about it. I think they do a pretty good job of presenting the facts (or how they see them). I think it's almost impossible for any news source to be completely unbiased, so I'm perfectly happy to be getting news that at least admits its bias.
So, I don't think "propaganda" is really the right word.
"To be honest watching those Ezra Levant videos mocking and belittling people (even if perhap in some cases they deserve it) makes me feel a little sick."
Fair enough. If it makes you feel that way then I can't really argue.
But I should mention that Ezra Levant isn't actually a reporter or anything like that. He's considered a "Canadian media personality" and "coservative political activist" (by Wikipedia, at least).
I think of him as something of a talk show host who makes it clear about what he believes and what and who he's against. He's quite a character, definitely, and can be a little harsh, but he makes no attempt to hide the fact that he is a Conservative through and through.
And like you said, it's not just the SNN that does this (the big fuss about Rob Ford is a good example). It's just politics. People get insulted and belittled. It's how it is, unfortunately.
And I understand that you don't care for fundamentalism, and the SNN is definitely fundamentally conservative, so I can see why you don't like it.
Anyways, yeah, we should definitely all meet one day. That would be so cool. :)
God bless. ♥
Oops. I think my point still stands regarding U.S. news, though.
And yes, it would be cool to meet up IRL one day. I promise I'm not as mean in person as over the internet :P
