Alrighty, well, I guess I'll just put the ones on my page, too XD

"Why do we need friendship in addition to fmaily ties?"

Um... isn't that kind of obvious? Because having more people to look out for you is obviously beneficial?

"a pack of wolves consists of mostly of a breeding pair and their offspring."

Um, to my knowledge they don't. Do you have a source on that?

"Humans, on the other hand, don't just remain in close family groups, however."

We did until a few thousand years ago when we developed farming and settled down in civilizations. Up to that point, most groups of humans traveled in bands of around 20-150 people. Of course they would tend to be related, but obviously not immediate family, hence friendships.

Now for some significantly more enlightening commentary:

"Yes, we are part of this universe, we are in this universe, but perhaps more important than both of those facts is that the universe is in us."

"I look up - many people feel small, because they're small and the universe is big, but I feel big, because my atoms came from those stars."

"That's really what you want in life. You want to feel connected, you want to feel relevant. You want to feel like a participant in the goings on of activities and events around you. That's precisely what we are, just by being alive."

"Too many hungry people losing weight."
~Paul McCartney
  song: Too Many People
  album: Ram

Haha, best line in a song ever. XD
Here's a link to the song, it sounds way cooler when he sings it:
ht tp://w ww.youtube.c om/watch?v=0P_HKQGq730
(Wow, I'm listening to it again now and I realizing just how much I love his voice! *fangirls*)

Another odd one from that album (which is one of my favourite albums of all time) is...

"I had another look and I had a cup of tea and a butter pie!
Butter pie?
The butter wouldn't melt so I put it in a pie, alright?"
XD

link:
ht tp://w ww.youtube.c om/watch?v=DupyAkOZLYA

On a more serious note, I heard this in a sermon yesterday and I really liked it:

"The way to dispel darkness is to admit light. The best way to deal with error is to present truth. It is the revelation of God's love that makes manifest the deformity and sin of the heart centered in self."
~Ellen White, The Desire of Ages, pg. 498

Another one I really like (that's on my TI profile, actually) is this:

"It is well to remember that the entire population of the universe, with one trifling exception, is composed of others."
~Andrew J. Holmes

Oddly enough, I have no idea who the guy is that said this, I just saw this once on a Social Studies test and really liked it. :P

God bless. ♥

You must really like Neil Degrasse Tyson, eh?

Did you ever see his cameo on Stargate: Atlantis (along with Bill Nye)?

Here's a link to one of the scenes he's in on the episode:

You should watch the whole episode if you can, it's one of my favourites and really funny.

I'm going to assume it was addressed to me. Yeah, someone brought the quote up on a thread I'd made earlier, in the Opinions Forum. Called Christians v. Atheists, if anyone wants to check that out--sometimes I just like to bring our debates to other parts of TeenInk.

Anyways, here's some more quotes. And LOL, stunt, almost all of your quotes came from that video on YouTube I think most of us have seen--and I wrote a poem refuting it, but I think I've lost it, and anyways, I'm not going to promote my writing on P&T, SO, just thought that was interesting.

MORE QUOTES!!!! :D

(I dunno bout you guys, but I like little BS quotes every now and then--If idealistic, they put a little pep in your step, don't they?)

"Insanity is doing the same thing, over and over again, but expecting different results."

--DUDE. I've done this before! And I got a different result o.O They don't mention what it means when that happens.......

"To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all." --Oscar Wilde.

--Nuff said. True shiz.

"There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle." --Albert Einstein.

--Smart dude. <3 Albert Einstein. Has anybody heard the statistics of young medical students when they start their training? They're asked to dissect a human body, and they do--and, I forget the statistic, but a good percentage of them lose their faith in Christ because they did all that dissecting and searching--and they couldn't find a soul. So funny how some scientists can unearth all these nitty gritty secrets of the universe, and still see God underneath. Kind of makes you wonder what makes those scientists different from the Med students. *winkety wink*

"I speak to everyone in the same way, whether he is the garbage man or the president of the university." --Albert Einstein.

"I don't know the question, but se.x is definitely the answer." --Woody Allen.

................

KIDDING.

Don't look at me like that o.o

And, because he's awesum-sauce, I would like to end this quote-rant on a C.S. Lewis note:

"A man can no more diminish God's glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word, 'darkness' on the walls of his cell."

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY

bye.

Jade
yeah, sorry. that was to you.
that last quote, by CS Lewis, is one of my favorites!!!!

heres a quote
"insanity doesnt run in my family, it practically gallops!!!"

"everyone wants to be Cary Grant, even i want to be Cary Grant"
both are by Cary Grant:P

i definetly have more (like a whole compbook full) but not with me at the moment, quotes are like my favorite thing in the world:D

i now love this thread!

half.note:

"You must really like Neil Degrasse Tyson, eh?"

They're all from one talk, hence relating to each other. But yes, I am a huge fan of Dr. Tyson. Also of Bill Nye, now that you mention it.

Imagine:

Thanks for the source, very informative.

Jade:

"And LOL, stunt, almost all of your quotes came from that video on YouTube I think most of us have seen"

All of the ones from Neil Tyson did, yeah.

"and I wrote a poem refuting it"

I've never in my life seen poetry used to refute scientific fact.

"I dunno bout you guys, but I like little BS quotes every now and then"

I really don't. Untrue inspirational quotes are depressing more than anything. They'd be really inspirational if they were true, but they're not, and that always gets me down.

--Did I say I was refuting fact? The video is about how the universe makes you feel big. That's what I was refuting--an emotional idea.

"I really don't."

--To each their own :P

"We went to the moon and we discovered Earth. I claim, we discovered Earth for the first time."

"We were still at war in vietname! There was still campus unrest! And yet, we found the time to start thinking about Earth. That is Space operating on our culture, and you cannot even put a price on that. That is a nation and a world reacting to a new perspective on what it is to be alive, on this planet that we all share."

"Children are not the problem. We spend the first year of their lives teaching them how to walk and talk, and the rest of their lives telling them to shut up and sit down."

"Earth is bad for life. Evidence of that is, look at the fossil record. 99% of all species that ever lived are now extinct. That is not the signature of a planet that is in love with life.

"The good thing about science is that it's true whether or not you believe in it."

"If you want to assert a truth, first make sure it's not just an opinion that you desperately want to be true."

"If you're really successful at bullshitting, it means you're not hanging around enough people smarter than you."

-- Neil DeGrasse Tyson

"Trying to be happy be accumulating possessions is like trying to satisfy hunger by taping sandwiches all over your body." -- George Carlin

"To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize." -- Voltaire

Since half.note brought up Billy Nye :P

"Everyone you will ever meet knows something you don't." -- Bill Nye

You can't "refute" an emotion, but I'd be interested to hear why you disagree about it.

Jade: I don't think that's good.

As for quotes .... I don't really do quotes. I don't have anything against them, really, it's more that I don't really notice them one way or the other.

However, I did find a Scripture quote that I really liked yesterday. "Faith is the realization of what is hoped for and the evidence of things not seen" (Hebrews 11:1).
