"Think Jedi council but in real life."
O.O I WANT THAT ONE!!!!
How would rebooting the space program help the economy? I'm genuinely interested, cause I want another reason to argue for space exploration. :)
I'm calling for a 3 part program: 1. Seizure of private property like factories by the workers. Have them be democtatically run by the people who work them. In a decentralized federation. 2. Replacing the state with a Federation of Communes. A commune is a community that exists in a region and engages in self government of itself. The commune provides child care, medicine ETC. The federation is the voluntary association of different communes. It provides defense, sharing of resources like iron that one region can't produce on its own. 3. Production for human needs not profit. All shall have access by need for the product of all.
The market isn't a rational allocator of resources. Human needs don't matter unless backed up by Money, and the wealthiest work the least and the reverse is true. I agree with conservatives about a parasite class, but it's not the patently racist caricature of the welfare queen it's the capitalist class.
Essentially what it boils down to is that space exploration is a massive, massive driver for boosting morale. It inspires people, it gets them to want to grow up to become astronauts and engineers and work in STEM fields.
I know it's annoying to be pointed to a video rather than given an explanation normally, but I just have to do it. Neil DeGrasse Tyson makes a very, very good case for this in just ten minutes. I mean, like eye-wateringly good.
Here's another interesting video:
