Hey everyone!

I thought it would be interesting if we all posted what assumptions we think a scientific worldview, a materialistic worldview, and a religous worldview have :) It could be personal (i.e. what assumptions you personally hold) or what you think people hold in general...

It'd be nice to compare the lists :)

I'll post mine later..

Cheers.

^ That's for my Trekkie friends. XD

Anyways, here's my list of assumptions:

1)  Everybody makes assumptions.

B)  I make assumptions without realizing I am making assumptions.

C)  You didn't realize that I changed from Numbers to Letters in my ordering system.

IIX)  You went back to check.

π)  Unicorns don't exist.

67.8^5)  You probably realized that the above number was the pi symbol.

42)  Everybody should carry a towel.

∞)  Everybody likes the Beatles to some extent (I mean, how could they not?).

XD

Yeah, I know that none of the above assumptions were at all serious, but I'm in a not-at-all-serious mood. :P

I will try again...

Here is the list of assumptions I think I make in regard to my views. This list, as should everyones, should be all the assumptions I need to reach any of my conclusions about the nature of the universe. So ask me to detail how these assumptions can lead to some of my specific ideas, and if I can't do it we'll know my list falls short. I'll ask you all similar questions on your lists.

1. What we can percieve, and only what we can percieve, is real.
2. The universe is deterministic (aka it can all be described using precise mathematical laws).

I'm fairly certain that that is it. Ask me to prove some of my ideas from that and we'll see...

Hm.. well, I think my beliefs are all based on one assumption:

We can't prove sh.it in this world.

1) The thing/person/phenomenon that created everything is god, not just the world, not just life.

By everything, I mean every physical object in this world. Not the intangible objects.

Izuo: This may seem like splitting hairs, but buildings, tools, phones, etc. are physical and they were certainly created by humans, not God.

Just gonna copy these verbatim from the other thread.

1. There is a real, physical world.
2. We are capable of making accurate observations.
3. Our reasoning can be applied to the world.

Those are what I think are the bare minimum assumptions that need to be made to be a functional truth-seeker, and are assumptions that every person of every culture with every worldview all share. I try to be sure that these are the only basic assumptions I make when figuring out how the world works.
