Go to this website and go to the "race test". It should take 10 minutes. Then tell me your results - it should be quite interesting.

It's not racism unless you're actively doing something to put certain races down (eg: not hiring any black people). Mostly, it's prejudice and stereotyping. I've actually taken that before (fun Friday night, eh?). I was surprised to find out that I'm not biased.
here's my results:

KatsK: I suppose you're right about the distinction between racism and prejudice, but whether or not you act on it, its still there. I for example was shocked to find that I showed a moderate preference for white people, as conscious racist or prejudiced thought regarding individuals have never crossed my mind.
I'm not saying it has much bearing on our actions, but its still there. Way to not be biased by the way.
Packerbacker: The results don't save. You'll have to just tell us.
Also, I was thinking that, perhaps, my (negative) results could partially be contributed to the fact that I expected to be at least slightly prejudice as I knew the typical results before going in. Who knows? The subconscious is weird.
HAHA I PREFER G.AYS XDD I think I read too much yaoi.
Also, have a slight preference for whites over asians, which is odd cuz im asian o.O
Yeah, I don't have a gay-straight preference either. I guess I'm weird. Or my subconscious is just really tolerant.
I don't have a ga.y/straight preference either. I'm really weird. Or my subconscious is just super tolerant. Which is rather ironic, because my old school had a few token black kids per class. (Of course, it is a small private Catholic school...) Flo: That makes sense. If most of the people you associate with are white and since our society is rather white-oriented, you subconsciously prefer whites. At least in America, everyone's equal... (That was sarcastic, btw)
High Five for being the 17% who are not partial!
I'm the same.
KatsK: Eh, makes sense I guess. Also slight preference for whites against blacks lol
Also, no preference really when it comes to male/female things.
I have no preference for gay vs. straight.
I have no preference for g.ay vs. straight
Somehow I'm not surprised that people subconsciously associate with people that look like them. In a way, though, I'm quite afraid of my own subconscious biases. I hate to think that these things may be influencing me on a daily basis. Oh well. Time for truth, if I can figure out what I'm supposed to do through these poorly worded instructions.
I must say, the fact that most people (including myself) had a preference for white people is sad. It shows you how much the subtle racism of our culture affects you, even when you make efforts not to think in a racist manner.
I took the political one instead (sorry), but it was pictures of Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama, so I guess I kind of got a race test too, but I think I would've gotten the same results if it was Clinton and Reagan or Obama and Herman Cain or whatever. I predictably got a higher favorability rating towards Reagan. It was actually conciously difficult to classify the "bad" words with him. Weird...
I got a moderate preference for whites, but I think most of it can be attributed to subconsciously preferring people that look like you. Also, what your subconscious does isn't nearly as important as what your conscious mind does. There is a kid in my physics class that I would enjoy punching in the face every time I see him. The important part is that I don't. (Also, Freud would probably have some interesting things to say about my subconsciousness. I'm not about to live out whatever Freud says my unconscious wishes are.)
One last comment, though- I always feel uncomfortable around black people. It isn't that I secretly think they're inferior or going to attack me- it's that I'm terrified of saying or doing something that could accidentally be interepreted as rascist in our hyper-politically-correct society.
"There's a kid in my physics class who I want to punch in the face every time I see him. The important thing is that I don't." Imagine, you made my night. I totally get what you're saying there. I mean, I've grown a lot more comfortable around black people. I always think about what I say before I say it, but I do have that underlying worry. In my experience, there have been a lot of black kids who have generalized white kids negatively, with little consequences, but if the white kids did that, we would be totally "racist." In our society, there is a bit of a double-standard. Ideally, everyone wouldn't stereotype or say stupid, culturally/racially ignorant things, but that's not realistic. Someday, I'm going to make some awful bigoted social gaffe. I mean, it happens, and the thing is, we're not the only ones. I'll just have to adjust and if people aren't accepting, I'll learn.
I'm not biased towards fat people, apparently. Thank you for bringing out the best in me, IAT.
"Your data suggest a strong automatic preference for European American compared to African American."
LOL, I'm racist. XD
I guess my result is pretty true, though. I mean, I definitely don't hate other races, but I am preferential towards the English culture
I would never intentionally treat someone differently just because they are a certain race or colour.
Anyways, interesting test. :)
Though I do subconciously prefer Christians to those of any other religion. J.ews next, and Muslims & Hindus equally little. Huh.
