It seems to me like recently there's been a lot of buzz about heaven, with books such as Heaven is For Real, etc. In this nonfiction book, written by the kid'd dad, a pastor, his little boy "saw" Heaven, at least as it is often depicted (pearly gates, brilliant light, and so on). Do you believe that people can see Heaven while on earth, or that they're just saying that?
I don't think they're "just saying it". As in, I think they genuinely see something. But you also "genuinely see" things when you take psychedelics. I think, for near death experiences, the chemicals in your brain elicit hallucinations/illusions, and depending on your psyche, they may result in pearly white gates.
I've seen that book, but I haven't gotten around to reading. My (uninformed) opinion is that the parents are reading too much into things the kid said (playing on their own biases)/had already given him preconcieved notions about Heaven. Then again I suppose he could have really gone to Heaven, but I think there is probably a good scientific explanation about why there are repetitive things we "see" if we have a near death experience - something about the way the brain works when it is dieing. I don't know though. Its really interesting stuff for sure.
Destinee and Quantum: I agree. I mean, it is possible that he did have a vision, but I'm assuming his father, as a pastor, took some liberties. It's going to look better if the boy's vision of Heaven is more reliable, right? Now I feel rather blasphemous.
Heaven is for real, BUT we do not go to heaven when we die. we lay in the ground until judgement day. why would he allow people to go to heaven before they are judged? then every righteous and unrighteous would go. he was four at the time yes, but his dad was a pastor he's had this stuff being pushed down his throat for 4 years! his dad probably taught him that you go to heaven when you die. almost nothing the boy "sees" is scriptural. J-sus would not have had red markers, they would have been white becuase it would have been scar, not red from the blood. he either had parents wanting to make millions or he was really good at hullicinating.
Shalom Alechiem and Barucha!
No, people cannot see heaven when they die (or almost die).
When you die you are only sleeping. You are basically unconcious until Jesus returns and then the righteous will go to heaven and the wicked will go to h-ll (well, simply put, there's a little more to it than that).
However, I am a Seventh-day Adventist and we believe that Ellen G. White (one of the church founders) was a prophet of God and given visions by Him.
Among her many visions included those of heaven.

So, I believe that she really did see heaven, but the dead will not be able to see it because "the dead know not any thing." (Ecclesiastes 9:5)
God bless. <3
I think people can see heaven in this life if God gives them visions.
As far as near-death experiences... I take them with a grain of salt. Did they see the next life? It's possible, but I find it unlikely. A near-death experience involves almost dying- I think your brain is going to have more to worry about than accurate memories of whatever happened while you were out. Hallucinations or dreams aren't uncommon, and there's no way to be sure how much is accurate. (Which is why all those 'I went to heaven books' don't match up very well.)
I don't think he saw heaven. Sure, his visions might be accurate when we compare them to what the bible says about what heaven looks like, but that doesn't mean its biblical.
My Pastor said that any "extras" such as the Heaven is for Real book, should be taken more as an opinion than truth.
