So I've been trying to read more of the bible, from cover to cover, and I can hardly stomach some of the things God instructs his people to do, such as stone women and pil.lage/des.troy non-believers... I have always been a very strong Chri.stian, but for the last few months I've been wavering on this issue. Can anyone prove that God is a loving God? I feel horrible even writing this post... O.o Thanks! :)
i don't think you ca find anywhere in the Bible that says he's a loving G-d but he gives blessings to his children and cur.ses to his enemys.
1 John 4:8?
I'm gonna play both sides of this argument :)
Peter says at one point (can't remember the verse but you can google for it :P) that "God IS Love". In that sense, scriptually speaking, I'd say he's a pretty loving God.
In the same way I'm a pretty Breece-ing Breece.
On the other hand, yes, God did command some pretty horribly painful and stomach-churning things to be done to people, especially in the Old Testament.
Welcome to my world :) This is also the main reason I choose to believe that the Bible is not entirely written by God and is in fact, man made.
'cause I haven't found a way to morally understand why God would do that honestly.
Again, welcome to my world, here's a spoiler...
IT SUCKS :P
Haha. I'm actually reading "The Story" which includes amusing little summaries occasionally. And it's worse that way, to go from blatant genoc.ide and ra.pe to a candy-coated, Sunday school version of events. Like "So anyways, and the Israelites continued on through the desert and God kept helping them against their enemies even though they're more corrupt than the pagans..." So yeah. It does suck.
i lied... oops didn't know there was one:)
Lol, that's okay. There's several scriptures actually.
I'm replying to myself O.o ... Strange moment of my life. Anyways, I pose another question. Is God's "holiness" and therefore inability to tolerate sin a justification for his wrath? Food for thought (and I'm genuinely anxious to know!)
yes because he cannot be where sin is so the answer to your question would be yes:)
That doesn't leave me with much of an answer, morality-wise:( but thanks.
ok morality wise...that's different.
well morality wise he can do whatsoever he pleases so if he dicideds that sodom and gommaorah are sinning then he will wip the city out. he has every right to. because they are sinning against his face. so he hads the right to. elaborate more on maybe some simpler questions i'm not sure what your asking?thanks!
Morality wise? Sure. I was debating on that myself:). Okay.... So before I rephrase my question, let me ask you this: Do you think it even matters whether God is a loving god and has a good reason for killing people? Because maybe that's where the confusion lies. I'm having doubts as to whether God is just and good.
this is tougher than you know... it doesn't matter because he created us so we ought to worship him:)
This is actually really really tough question...
Well here's my opinion (the believing-naive half, anyway): if God is evil or has bad intentions, the world would be a lot more horrific than it currently is. So we ought to give him some credit, right?
he gets all the credit:)
Typo, that was a typo..
p.s. where's destinee she hasn't been around in a while ever since the argument about islam:0
Yeah I know, I asked her a question but I think someone else responded... I was talking bout your above comment: "he gets all the credit"
It was a joke
After what you said about her religion I'm not exactly shocked she didn't come back. Also, she's in college, is fairly busy, and has better things to do than bicker online.
