They beat the Red Sox 3 of the last 4 games. Red Sox lead the east, but Twins show dominance over them. Are they legit?
I just typed up a long reply and it disappeared.
Okay. Let's summarize. The Twins are 16-15 on the year. Their best players are probably Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau. Their starting pitching ranges from decent to horrid. Their closer is average at best. The Tigers are in their division. The Royals are on a tear that might last all season. The Indians are not a great team but they're still somewhat competitive.
The Twins didn't do much this offseason, so their team will be basically the same. Why should they be any better than last year's mess? You can't win the AL Central-- or even a wild card-- on a handful of good-to-middling players and a terrible starting five. At least not in this division.
What the Twins need is an honest-to-goodness star or two. Someone who can redeem this team and make them the team to beat.
"With this staff, nothing jumps out at you. They don't have 'that guy'. They have a bunch of guys you can flip a coin on." -Curt Schilling, talking about the 2013 Twins.
^^I agree completely.
TWINS JUST BEAT THE ORILES(SP) 5-8!!!!!!!
um stars? pedro florimone, oscio arcia, josh willingham, ryan duncing...and joes maur is a star;) and you say "why should the twins be any better this year?" ummm cause players mature and get better... that's like saying why should last years 7th grade team be any better than this years 8th grade team, they still have the same players. they get better as they go!!! and BTW twins will win the AL central and beat the yankees this year in the playoffs!!!:P
I don't think so. :) I can guarantee you they will not win the division. The Tigers are just too good.
And it's true, what you said about the stars getting better, but also, they get worse as they age. So sure, the young ones will (probably) get better, but the older guys will get worse.
Besides--the pitching. You can't survive on that kind of pitching! Diamond seems okay, but you just don't have anyone great!
This week they're playing the White Sox and then the Red Sox again. If they can win, say, four out of six, they might have a chance.
Is artgirl in denial?
Kevin Corriea is a good pitcher, let's see how about Vance Worley? Hendricks is pretty good. Fien is a great closer! but yea not an outstanding bullpen by anymeans. but it gets them by. The White Sox are TERRIBLE this year!!! we'll probably sweep them, then we'll probably lose one in the game against the Red Sox;) and if you haven't noticed the twins offense has really come alive these past few games! like big time;)
Okay, you're right about Fien. He's pretty good. But I don't know about Vance Worley. See, my team, the Phillies, had him for about three years. I got my fill of Vance. And this year...not very good numbers. 66 hits in 40 innings pitched. Not exactly stellar.
Oh yeah, and the White Sox are a mess. They're probably going to be a last-place tea, for most, if not all, of the season.
Hitting...hmm. Looking at the stats, I see a slightly below-average team. Not many home runs. Not that that makes a team, but to be a great team, you want a guy with upwards of ten homers by now. Willingham (love this guy, by the way) has only five.
So...your team has a chance, but it's very small. Very small.
^^I don't love love Willingham. My real baseball crush is Chase Utley.
I'm a huge Reds fan (you never would've guessed, right?), and if there's one thing I've learned through the years is that the MLB season is really, really long. Compared to an NFL season, we're through like game 4. The Twins are .500. Does that mean they can't make the playoffs? Of course not. But over the course of a 162-game season, they don't, in my opinion, have the roster to win their division. Citing a single series win over the Red Sox doesn't change the fact that their talent isn't the same as other teams in their division.
^^Exactly. They might just be a streaky team, like the Braves, who had that unbeatable stretch for a while there and then collapsed.
HEY ARTGIRL!!! what was that you were saying about the Twins batting??? twins win 10-3 over White Sox!!!:P
White Sox are terrible, just sayin'. Ever heard of a hitting streak?
LOL. Wanna know a secret? I'm just as overly optimistic about my team, the Fightin' Phils, as you are about the Twins. They won 2 out of 3 vs. the Giants last week. So we'll see. XD
My prediction for the AL Central 2013:
Maybe Indians and Twins will switch. But I don't know; those Indians can HIT!
Oh yeah, and 10-3? That's nothing. XD Last year the Phillies had a 16-1 game, and they were terrible at that point in the season.
BUT YOU NEVER KNOW IN BASEBALL!!!!
well now the twins ofically suck:P they went 2 for 6 in the whitesox and redsox series together. and now at bottom of division with a 6 game losing streak...yeah. they suck;)
Hate to say it, but....
I TOLD YOU SO!!!!;)
Just kidding. :P
Twins sweep the four game series against the Brewers!!! and the game last night in 3 and 1/3 innings they 4 home runs and 3 of them were in the 4th! haha:P the brewers go to philli next so we'll see how your team does against themXD:P
Phils lost Game 1, Game 2's in an hour. We'll see!
Ouch! phils lost 2 out of 3 games...are twins better?O.o:PXD
Hmm...well, Phils have a better record...haha.
barely;) i just looked and they're playing each other 6/11, 6/13, and 6/13 i say phils win first game and twins win the next 2;) WE WILL WIN THE SERIESXD
I doubt it! I say Phils win first two...
