Yes they do.
Put your characters in this situation. What will they do out of pure desperation? Will it fail or succeed?
How will they feel afterward? Will they regret it? Or will they just be happy they succeed?

CDs are character developments, which are basically prompts to further develop your characters and get your creative juices flowing. Sometimes (well, whenever I decide to do one), the creator of the thread might comment on the posted result, but they aren't obligated to :)
