Secondly, this thread only covered the very most basic rules of English grammar - the ones which are necessary to correctly convey what you are trying to say. Without a good understanding of these rules, your work will be difficult to read and open to misinterpretation.

The thing about ethnocentricity was referring to the fact that I was using British English rather than American English in the post, which led to someone believing that I had misspelled in it. Don't worry about that.

I'm not saying you're an idiot if you have trouble with grammar. I'm also not saying that you can't use grammar to be representative of 'real life' (that is, using common grammatical 'mistakes' in a person's speech if it is appropriate). However, if you want something understood in Standard English, you have to be able to write in Standard English, which is why this whole thing was created.

gammer scares me now...

The one thing you didn't mention was a hyphen, which I use all the time, and probably incorrectly. Do you know how to use one?

Thank you!! I get so sick of bad grammar, especially when I have to "peer-review" other people's writings. This is definitely going to be forced upon them :)

*sigh* oh, the point in time when I first engraved all these requisite syntax rules,i recall all that and loved it! To everyone reading these astonishing rule: these tips are very exceedingly unproblematic and merely extravagant!!

On Hyphen Use:

Don't. Unless you know for a fact that two words are combined with hyphens, don't use them.

Speaking and writing clearly are important. But I think we're all perfectly capable of doing so.

Personally speaking grammar is something which deserves minimal attention. One doesn't need to know how to label a prepositional phrase or such other garbage in order to deliver a powerful inspirational and/or intelligent message.

Grammar gets too much attention.

I find it rather disconcerting when I see grammatically messy stories on this site.
