A Brief History of Time: Steven Hawking; even if you don't believe in science it is fascinating to think about the stuff in this book.

Even though it's already been mentioned, I gotta repeat The Host. (Don't judge because it was written by Stephanie Meyers. The book is absolutely brilliant.)

Flowers for Algernon is an incredible book, nobody I ever recommended it to hasn't fallen in love with it.

The Kite Runner is mindblowing. A little sad, but it's also awesome in the true sense of the word. I was awed by it.

For some light, but still fabulous, chic-litty type books, I recommend Stealing Heaven, The Truth about Forever, and Fangirl.
