Um. Lot's of kids have indeed been disciplined through spanking, have turned out fine, and have certainly not been abused. I'm one of them.
When I was little, if I did something wrong, I got a spanking, and I got a talking-to. Guess what? I'm gonna do it to my kids too, one day, because I think that it is an effective way to discipline a child.
Yeah, it hurts. It's not gonna kill you though, and it's not gonna scar you for life. It teaches children about consequences. "If you do this particular wrong thing, there will be pain." Guess how quick it works? Almost instantaneously! :-D
Now, if kids are getting spanked/hit on a regular basis for no reason, that's abuse. But if spanking is being used as a teaching/disciplinary method, then I can assure you that it is effective and entirely humane.
