I think we'll be free, if anything I'd say socialist though :P
I like Human's quote about Communism the best:
There's a baseline of communism in every society. Because communism simply means that everyone is equal.  When Hurricane Sandy hit, when the earthquake in Haiti hit, when the sunami in Japan hit, people banded together and became equal, helping each other despite their differences.

Thanks, see I'm good for something.
I wouldn't say equality, just from each to each. In most societies if the need is great enough or the cost is small enough, you will get what you need. just by dint of being part of a society (in the broadest sense, of any community), if you don't give it you had better have a good reason
So if I need directions to a place, most people will give me them (low cost), unless I've got a gun, and they herd me say I want to kill someone (really good reason).
If I'm my house is on fire most people will help me put it out (need is high enough) unless I've set other people's houses on fire before (really good reason)
Theres a good Malagasy (people of Madagascar) story about this:
This guy used to go to all the fishermen when they came home and ask for all the best fish.

And society demanded that they give it to them. This happened year after year, finally they got a war party together and killed him.
Because it was more moral in there society to kill someone than to tell them "go catch your own dam fish."

America won't become a communist, socialist, or totalitarian country. If democratic capitalism does fall apart (which I find somewhat unlikely) then it will be replaced by anarchy. If someone tries to dramatically restructure the government to concentrate power there will be a revolution followed by anarchy. Americans can't agree on anything enough to put a functioning communist society together.

It's basically impossible for America to become a communist or totalitarian society, at least in the near future. Our rights are protected by federal laws that are extremely hard to change, unless all 50 states unanimously agree to change or add one. Saying that we Americans have a tendency not to agree on anything, it's pretty unlikely we would be able to change the entire makeup of our society.

Dream: they said the same thing about France, then they got guilotiened. Whats going on right now is the awakening of people to a new age of austerity. We're going down a path of class war.
Workers are begining to fight back, unionization is comming up. The ideas of workers controlling production have been gaining steam, as places like republic have gone to workers control.
However the right is mobilizing. I see militia as much like the Freikorps. The tea party as fascist usefull idiots, and so many other fascist movements

The girl in a ghillie suit listens to the communist talk and chuckles at being called a fascist.
Not all the Freikorps accepted Hitler, my comrade.  Not all the militias are useful idiots.  I think we have a lot more ideological common ground than you realize.
