Just think about the question. Party A's candidate is Stalin, and Party B's is Hitler. Everyone says a third party candidate can't win -- none of them are higher than about 5% in the polls. Who would you vote for?

The lesser of two evils is still evil, but the portion that was excluded from evil was included in good and so good is there. Even a small amount of good is more powerful than a whole lot of evil.

If that wasn't an option and I had to vote, It would depend on if I was Je.wish (or whatever other minority Hitler chose to take things out on.) Stalin just killed people randomly, so if I was part of the minority I'd go with him and increase my chances of survival. If I wasn't one of the group Hitler hated, I'd choose him and almost definetely survive.
The noble thing to do, of course, would be to either refuse to vote or start a revolution, but I don't think I could. It's easy to be brave in theory, but real life is harder.

The fact that said scenario is even a problem is itself scary. How can one man have so much power that his election should make people leave the country? Are we forgettin Congress can impeach him? Or that he can't actually make laws? That even his veto can be overridden? That he can't declare war on anybody?
. . . . . Or have we decided we don't need those restrictions?

Okay, I see that you mean Obama and Romney aren't as terrible as Stalin and Hitler. Maybe not. But the choice to be made is somewhat similar.
