Your general opinion. Not the cops on a reg. day to day basis, but the riot police called in for crowd control ect. What do you think about them? Should they have more firepower or means of handling a crowd? or should they have less. Should there not be a riot police at all?

I think they're necessary to protect people. In a riot, innocent bystnaders are likely to get hurt.
That said, I don't think riot police should be brought into peaceful protests, and I don't think they should have 'more firepower'. Any weapons they have need to be nonlethal.
I've learned the best way to deal with a riot is to wait it out, let the people tire themselves out and go back to drinking or whatever the he.ll they were doing before they started to get crazy. Riot police only fuels their excitement and violence, because they are actually fighting FOR something, instead of just going crazy in the streets. If an innocent bystander gets hurt, all I can say is... Don't get yourself in these situations in the first place. If a crowd is getting rowdy, get out of there, and don't let your children in large crowds alone either. The rioters don't mean to get anyone hurt, but people get trampled, especially children. When the Bruins won the Stanley cup, the streets were mayhem. People were tipping cop cars and climbing phone polls, People were getting trampled and stabbed. It was nuts, but the cops only made it worse. They should've blocked off the area and let the rioters burn out.
