As teenagers, this may not so much apply to you as it does adults. But under the second Amendament, Americans have the right to keep and bear arms. To what extent, should this right be taken. What should restrictions be?

I really don't like time. As time proceeds, the way of life changes and it starts to change the laws that our society lives by.
Now these days, there's a lot of crime. Since people have access to arms, there's a higher chance for crimes to occur. This amendment doesn't need restrictions. But peopel should at least need to decide if a person would be responsible with guns.

Actually, when citizens carry guns the world is safer. Statistics were taken about it, when everyone in a town carries a firearm, there is less crime. People realize that everyone can defend themselves, and so they don't try anything. I know that I feel a lot safer with a gun in the house then without, or even with a weapon in my pocket. I'm sick of all these regulations when it comes to guns, because all they do is take away guns from the civilians, while criminals will still have guns. There are other ways to get guns then get a license and go to a gun store. You can buy them from different countries, or even down the street from drug dealers. All gun regulation does is make the world a more dangerous place.

On the contrary, statistics proven that citizens feel safer when they see Military personell, law enforcement, and others that carry a badge, walking the streets with guns protecting them, namely New York. Statistics also prove that there is no real guarantee that someone who carries a gun just because their rights say they can is going to use it right.
I think the only restriction that their should be, is on semi and automatic weapons. To those who actually need them because of their career feild. You can not prove to me that a (for example) a lawyer needs to carry a M16, with him where ever he goes.

I'm going to say this at the beginning of the debate so my position is clear (because every time I try to discuss this rationally I get accused of wanting to take away everyone's guns):
GUNS SHOULD NOT BE BANNED. YOU HAVE THE CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS.
BUT GUNS NEED TO BE REGULATED. We need to keep track of who owns them and do our best to keep them out of the wrong hands. We have the right to bear arms, but we do not have the right to bear whatever arms we wish and to use them however we want.

I agree with Imaginedangerous. If any random person had one, who knows what can happen. This world is already filled with bad people and sad things happen every day. We don't need more of that.

Im with Imagine and Osvaldo. In quoting the video in my first post, "If you combine the populations of Great Britain, Germany, France, Japan, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark, and Australia you will get a population roughly the size of America. Last year they combined had 112 gun deaths. We as Americans had 32,000. Does that mean that Americans are homicidal by nature, or because they have gun control laws."
Leaves you thinking.

What is a right?
Aug. 27, 2012 at 5:09 pm
Rights are legal, social, or ethical principles of freedom or entitlement; that is, rights are the fundamental rules about what is allowed of people or owed to people, according to some legal system, social convention, or ethical theory.

Well, that's convincing Archy. Crime happen everyday and people lose their lives from it. But does the countries you mentioned have the right to bare arms? Our country isn't the only country with crimes. But our country does let people own guns. And if it's not controled enough, it might get worse.

How about the definition that a right is an entitlement under some structure (legal, social, ethical, etc.) that we both agree on. That is, that I can't take your entitlement, and you can't take mine.

The state is the fist of the capitalist class, as such it is a threat to anyone who threatens the status quo. The gun laws in the country are designed to keep guns out of the hands of minorities and radicals. In my area their has been a growth in far right groups who train with guns, as an out spoken radical leftist I would feel much safer if I was armed

I'm with Imagine and Osvaldo on this... so I'll let them, being much better in debates then me, do the debating. ;-)

So human, say I give you a gun. What is to say that you know how to use it properly and be responsible for it. What can you do to show me that you can handle it and be mature about it?
