Because young girls are influenced easier, and our society is so fu.cked up that they don't have any qualms about targetting that particular audience.
I'd also blame it on the lowering moral standard in America. For God's sake, we put pitcutres of half-nake.d women all over shelves, TV, and every other accessible and unnecessary item in society! No wonder girls go "Wow, guys seem to like seeing nake.d women all over the place, maybe I should try it!"
Ugh. It's sickening.
Mkay, I'm seriously getting tired of all your cursing missy. At least I have the decency to replace mine with ----'s, instead of shoving it out in the open -_-
On Topic Reply to RarelyJaded:
I love how our society seems to ignore the s.exualization of guys too.
Look at Justin Bieber! He's been s.exualized out the wazoo.
I don't even want to know what I meant by "literally". That's how bad it can be.
Every day I see guys at my school (including myself :P) wearing shorter shorts and tighter fitting shirts.
The thing about our society is, it goes both ways now. All the s.exualization is out in the open now, just try reading 50 Shades of Grey.
"All my cursing?" I seriously doubt there's enough to warrant that statement. I don't know what gives you the right to judge me, but it needs to not happen.
On topic reply to breece: I never said guys weren't targeted too. This thread is about GIRLS. So I don't see how your post was in reply to the one above.
It'd be a different story if you actually censored your cursing, but you're putting it out in the open on a website that preteens and children frequent too, you'd be surprised how many young people go here.
Sure, I say some inappropriate things but I'm very careful to make it undecipherable, except to those who already know what it is.
I'm not judging you for cursing, I'm judging you for not cursing responsibly :P
I was more responding to the part where you said, and I qoute,
"Wow! Guys seem to like seeing nake.d women all over the place, maybe I should try it!"
It seems like you're making out guys to be some kind of antagonist here to me, maybe I was interpreting it wrong.
Regardless, girls can do the same thing to guys.
That's my point and I'm stuckin' to it.
Point taken. I didn't realize.
Has anyone ever given thought to why the younger generations act like they do? Not every young girl that is exposed to se.x becomes a ska.nk. Only the ones with poor character end up like that. There are plenty of people in our society who are respectful and appropriate. Sure, reality tv may say differently, but we can learn from their mistakes. If you saw a picture of a half dressed girl, would you really be influenced to dress like that? I think people have more personality then that, it's not children need to be protected from things like that. Kids are a lot more resilient then people give them credit for, they don't just imitate what they see. They have their own thoughts and opinions.
^ I agree completely. I'm just saying young people are influenced easier because they're still trying to figure out who they are. It's irresponsible of the media to fill a little girl's head with pictures of how she's "supposed" to look like and act like. Now, if an older girl allows herself to be influenced in such a way, that's completely on her.
Puberty is probably hitting young girls early because of the amount of hormones they put into meat, like chickens... gosh society nowadays..
i agree with you. a lot of peole were giving victoria's secret the side eye a few weeks ago. they actually got caught in a lie; i think the victoria's secret reps. said they were not trying to target young girls, however, the owner of the company said they were prior to this event. i don't think these companies mean harm, but they're not thinking of the consequences of the messeges they're sending out. i would hope anybody under the age of ten would only be wearing training bras, lol!!!!
Wow-can't believe how amazing the discussion got :) So many insightful viewpoints posted on this thread-it was great to read :)
I know this isn't exactly on-topic, but it's been brought up, so... is it just me or is there anyone else here who doesn't see se.xuality as an automatically immoral thing?
Whether people see se.xuality in general as immoral or not isn't important. The reason people dislike the se.xualization of young girls specifically is because it often leads to objectification instead of healthy behaviors and realtionships.
As denoted by the "I know this isn't exactly on-topic, but it's been brought up" clause, that's certainly not what I was saying.
I'm all for being open about se.x and se.xuality. If kids learn early on, they won't make as many mistakes. It's the same thing as serving your kids wine with dinner, it demystifies it and they will make better decisions in the future.
are they ACTUALLY for 7 year olds. or are they just like bras for small people.
also my friends sister got her period when she was 9....sooo i mean..
