I'm a little too good at lying low. It's getting to the point where I'm almost not there even when I want to be: I've been literally run over by tall male athletes twice in Gym just because I "blend in" too much. I find myself wearing drab clothing even when I make an effort to stand out. I can't say what I really want, ever, and I'm such a pushover that my 10 year old step-sisters have found that it's easy to get me to do what they want. How do I be more assertive?

Start stepping out of your comfort zone. Wear colorful clothing, take up a sport, join a club, make new friends, speak louder when you talk...all of these things will help you be assertive. Once you are comfortable with your body and personality, people will start to notice. Remember: if you're looking for attention, don't let it be negative.

Hey. I sort of know what you mean about feeling invisible. So...I agree with Peace. It's a good idea to o that. Just don't go so over the top trying to stand out that you stop acting like you. You still have to be yourself.

Also, Ana, (do you mind if I call you that?) I know that another thing that can help with this kind of thing is talking to somebody whom knows what you're talking about. So...... I'm here to talk to you if you wish. I know that I'd love to talk to you.

Hey, I have the exact same personality. I used to think that being quiet and blending in was a bad thing, and I guess it is if you aren't being able to express yourself. Anyway I've found that being quiet is just who I am. As long as I know that I'm still being heard on isues and topics that matter to me I'm ok with blending in. As long as you feel like you're being heard when you need to be, then there's nothing wrong with being quiet. The only thing I would say is deffinately dont let your step sisters run your life. Dont change who you are just to get noticed a little more often. When you're out of school and end up with an amazing career, everyone will notice you and you wont even have to try. :)

I've been so busy....sorry about the long absence. Yes, call me Ana if you wish, just not Ann or Annie. I also answer to Julia, Alaura, Ananse, Anansesem....
Thank you very much for your kind offer, Dragonsand. I can chat or post a forum, whichever is most convenient.
By the way, there is a story behind my username. Google it if you like.

Would you like to arrange a chat? I can't be on all the time so I need to have a prearranged time and room.

I`ve been sat on and run over multiple times -_- it bites. honestly i dont know how to help you i`m still trying myself, some of us are just perfectly fine with being alone and quiet, i personally would rather read or volunteer than hang out with people
but if people are mean thats not ok. if they tell you to do something you dont want to do tell em to shove it, or just ignore them. its hard sometimes but even tho its okay to be a quiet shy person you gotta let people know you ARE a person and not a just a name

It sure does. The worst part is this persistent little fear that changing anything wouldn't get you the kind of attention you want, because people know what to expect from you by now....
Oh, and Blue: I posted the thread.
