BULLYING!! I need your help

I am writing an arguement/ Reasearch paper about human nature.  I have chosen to talk about bullying. I am covering different areas of it and mostly focusing on these questions:
1.) why do bullys bully
2.) why do people allow themslves to be bully
3.) why do we allow our selves to be bullied.
I am also trying to cover this subject from the veiw point of Cyber Bullying rather than other types of bullying and how it is super dangerous (I think Amanda Todd is a very sad but a good example of this).
I would really like to hear your opion on these questions to help me be able to cover all opinions over this subject besides just my own.
Thank you for your time.

People pick on each other when they are insecure, sadistic, or just like to feel dominant. People allow themselves to be bullied because they sometimes believe what's being said to them, or think they deserve it. Personally I always responded to bullying with a jab to the face and a kick to the groin, but don't take my word for it. A lot of people just suffer in silence.

I've never had a physical confrontation (except with siblings, but that doesn't count), but I don't exactly act normal all the time, so sometimes people make fun of me because of how I talk, dress, and act.  I used to feel hurt and think people didn't like me, but now I've just learned to shrug it off.
I think a lot of cyber-bullying is similar to my experience: it's not physical, but emotional and mental.  I don't really classify this in my mind as bullying, but that may because I've learned to deal with it.
1.)  Bully's bully mostly to give themselves an ego trip.
2.)  Why do people allow themselves to be bullied?  Different reasons.  For physical bullying, some are afraid of pain, some are afraid of rejection by others, some are just insecure.  Most people follow Newton's Law of Inertia: they don't seek to change the status quo.  Another situation might be worse than the current one.  .......  Verbal bullying... sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never harm me...  there's basically two ways to respond to verbal bullying since you can't exactly punch everyone who calls you a name.  Either you lose your self-confidence and become a mind-slave of the bully and let it destroy your life, or you shrug and get a little stronger.  Every bully is hoping for the first possibility, of course.
3.)  Why do we allow ourselves to be bullied?  Basically for the reasons stated above.  Why do I let the government take 30% of my income?  Because if I didn't, they'd lock me in a cage.  Tell me that's not physical bullying.  Words...  I can't control others' words and actions, only my reaction to them.  It's not worth it to me to get upset when someone calls me a name.  I guess I should say that someone started to bully me one time and I just let him know that if he messed with me I wasn't just going to stand there and take it.  I think the submissive/victim mindset is really engrained in a lot of people's minds, and it means we're not ready to resist.
Here's a 4.) you might not have thought about, but that I find intriguing.  Why do we stand around and watch as others are bullied?  Why don't we step in?

Thanks you two. This is really helpful. And Junie, I by mistake I repeated question 2 twice. Question 3 was supposed to be Why do we allow people to be bullied. So thank you so much for addressing that too. :)
Any more ideas are welcomed. :D

I have a fair knowledge of cyber bullying, because it is so rampant in my school. People who cyber bully are too scared to say whatever nasty things they have to say face-to-face; I know this because someone tried to bully me on facebook for reasons I dont know. However instead of replying to the message, i went to that person in school and asked them why they were being like that. They immediatly took it all back, started to spit excuses everywhere. The person was scared, from what I could tell. From this experience I've always thought that cyber bullies are insecure and cant say what they want in person.
