It looks like I'm about to get train-track braces. The dentist said no soft drinks, chocolate, sweets or anything of the sort- but some of my friends drink coca-cola and wear braces, too?
Those of you who have or have had braces, how strict is this rule?

you can drink soda, its just really bad for your teeth. You can eat sweets but just be careful that they dont break ur wire or brackets or get stuck.

Uh, when I had braces (and I had them for three years), I ate everything on the long list of things I wasn't supposed to eat (which included lemon, potato chips, popcorn, bagels, and pretty much everything besides soup and canned beans), and I never once broke a wire. But don't take that as an example, though my friend did the same thing. But that's bad advice. DON'T LISTEN TO ME :)

I think the reason they say no cola is because it stains your teeth. Same with coffee. So when the braches come off the areas under there won't be stained, but the rest will. It's not always that noticable, but I think that's why that guideline exists.

Not sure about soft drinks in general though. I guess just because they're bad for your teeth. A lot of my friends who had braces ate pretty much whatever they wanted once it stopped hurting their teeth.

Thanks everyone! I guess I'll go off coke a bit then, and cut down on sweets. The advice is very helpful.
