Stop, and please get help.

So, I've noticed that a lot of people on this forum post things about how they self-harm, having eating disorders, want to die, do d**gs, etc. I've also noticed that when it is recommended that y'all (the unhealthy members of Teen Ink) get help, you tend to have all sorts of excuses as to why you can't get it or don't need it. Well, I'm sorry if what I'm about to say makes me sound like a total b***h, but it needs to be said.

First off, if y'all are going to say that you do these things to yourselves, there are obviously going to be people telling you to get help. And if y'all refuse to get help after it has been recommended, y'all basically look like really, really big attention-seekers. I mean think about it–it's like a sick person going to the doctors and complaining about their ailments but then not wanting medicine.
Secondly, unless your life has been super horrible (arguments with friends and break-ups don't count), I don't see why y'all would want to hurt and/or kill yourselves. Quite honestly, both of those things are very, very selfish acts. I have recently lost two people very close to me. One was a suicide, and one was either a suicide or an accident due to cutting.
Third, if y'all keep being as unhealthy as you are, y'all are most likely going to be sent out-of-state to residential treatment centers. Do y'all even know how long people are generally at those places? Six MONTHS to three YEARS.

One last thing: I'm not just pulling all of these statements out of my a**. I have been in similar situations to the one(s) y'all are in. I was abused from the time I was 6 to the time I was 11. I had self-harmed since I was 8, and by the time I was 14 I had tried to kill myself five times. As well, I was at a treatment center for almost two YEARS. So please, get help.

Agreed, Expectations. However, there are some cases of depression when you can't totally push it off. So it's best to try to impel them to do it. Attention seeking is one minor cause, as a lot of guyz don't know what is ailing them and so they come to help as schoold guidance counsellors also don't help. That's why. Otherwise I agree with your account.

i agree, too. (and im sorry you had to go through that). but keep in mind, if they're posting on the internet that they're going to commit suicide, or cut themselves, then they don't really want to do it (as weird as that soudns) they want someone to care enough to stop them. i know--ive had friends do that kind of thing. its tough to watch, but they've gotta be the ones who get help. and, i agree with Dynamo--most school guidance counselors are useless.
