My mind barely kept pace with my hands, working to finish the cube, twisting and locking rows and columns into place.  My eyes saw nothing but fleeting colors of the Rubik's cube, contrasted with the green of the carpet.
My father said he’d never had ambition to complete one, but I was determined.
When I finished at last, it was like flicking a switch because suddenly, an unfamiliar world surrounded me.  Gasping softly, the cube slid from my fingers, landing in dirt, slightly nudging it out of its arrangement.
I blinked, looking down at the cube on the carpet.

I've never been patient enough to finish a Rubik's Cube, but whenever I held one in my hands, I always fantasized the cube might be some kind of key.
