"Let's put the fun in funeral!"

I died.

I remember the pain and then nothing. I thought after nothing there was nothing but I woke up.

I didn't ask to wake up I just did.

I found myself lying in a bed alone in a small bedroom.

My throat was dry, my head felt as heavy as a bowling ball, and I didn't know why I was there.

"Hello?" I said hoarsely. "Where am I?"

I stood expecting pain but I was fine. None of my limbs were missing. I didn't have any scars either. Why was I here if I wasn't injured?

"Eve, you're awake," a voice said causing me to jump.

Entering through the door was a woman in black clothing speaking in a business voice. I had never see her before.

"How do you know my name?" I asked urgently.

"I didn't mean to scare you but you awoke faster than we planned."

"Planned? Who's we?"

"I will explain everything to you, Eve. How do you feel?"

"Normal. But I was dead. Why am I here? Is this what comes after?"

She laughed. "You're in the land of the living, Eve. You're here because we saved you."

"I didn't ask you too."

"You're part of the government's new experiment. It's been quite successful."

"I'm not an experiment."

"What you went through is the experiment. You're still Eve Johnson."

"You're a horrible explainer. I want long clear answers."

She nodded. "Are you okay for walking?"

"Yes, I told you I was fine before."

She smiled annoyingly. "Good to hear, follow me." She walked out of the room into a pale room filled with tables and scientists talking. It was simple but I knew something was wrong.
They all stared at me as though I were someone important.

"Who do these people think I am?" I asked.

"Eve Johnson, of course, our survivor."

I didn’t like the sound of that. "Survivor?"

"Yes, don't you remember how you died?"

"I was in one of the broken cities when shots rang out. I was shot. It hurt."

"Correct, you were caught in the middle of the guards and the public having a riot. You didn't deserve to die so we saved you."

I was getting a headache from all of this. "Why? How?"

"By science. You're our experiment. We brought you back to life and now you will listen to us."

I glanced around nervously. "You can't bring people back to life!" I shouted.

"That's what people used to think."

"You're insane. This whole thing is." I saw a door and ran towards it.

"Eve!" the woman exclaimed.

I didn't stop and went through the door to the outside world.

It was bitterly cold and dark outside.

I felt something stab into my back. I fell to the ground and everything began to fade. It wasn't death but I had been sedated.

The woman who had been vaguely explaining my situation stood above me.

"You're our experiment and you will not leave our grasp."
