Time Rewinding

It was time. The moon… It was coming down to end the time on this planet at once. Elvee was standing on top of the clock tower, staring at the moon. The clock tower was the tallest building in the town of Kenshi. From there, you could certainly see the stars with no problem. Tonight however, all you could see was the impending doom that was approaching fast. Elvee, the only one with permission to be up on the clock tower at the time, was waiting for someone else to appear. It was someone he once knew. The tower was shaking from the feel of the moon entering the planet’s atmosphere. Elvee continued to stand still, not budging at all. If it was to be all over, he would like to re-visit his past within his own mind first.

He had fallen in love, yes he did. She was so nice to him, as he to her. They always had such a fun time. Then the Moon Children showed up. They took her away from him. Elvee had pleaded with them to let him take her back. They only laughed at him. They tricked him into joining their cult instead, and in turn, sewed his mouth shut. He could no longer speak; all he could do was run away and cry. They had killed her 3 days before he was forced to join. He can even remember the last day he saw her…

“So, Elvee, you said you wanted to see me?”

“Um… Uh… Yea.” Elvee responded. “I uh… I wanted us to meet at the clock tower the day of the festival. I already talked with the elder, and he said it was fine.”

She giggled and ran around Elvee, making him increasingly nervous. “Well then,” she began. “What is it that makes the clock tower so important of a location?” She looked Elvee in the eyes, and Elvee became a nervous wreck. Her cerulean eyes were staring into his soul, but with such gentle intentions. She was taller than Elvee, and older by a year, yet Elvee felt different around her. The green dress she wore stretched down to her knees. She always seemed to be polite to everyone, no matter their social title. Even if you were a criminal, she would have treated you so nicely.

Elvee turned away from her, shaking. He was nervous about the situation, and that she might figure out what was happening, so he continued with what he intended to say. “I want to be up on the clock tower with you… I mean, so everyone in the town could hear my new song.”

The girl giggled again, and put a hand on Elvee’s shoulder. “Don’t worry Elvee,” she soothed. “I know what you want to play will be beautiful. I’ll make sure to go to the clock tower the night of the festival to hear your song up close.” She moved in, and hugged Elvee. Elvee felt so nervous, yet so calm. Whenever she was with him, Elvee always felt at ease. He would never forget that moment of his life…

In one of his hands, Elvee held a violin. In his other hand, he held the bow for the instrument itself. He held them to his side like a young toddler would with their blanket. He was waiting for the end to come. He waited for the person he was supposed to meet on this day. It was only 4 days since she had died, and only 6 since they promised to meet here at night. Elvee was going to profess his love to her, but now all he could do was cry. It was over; all he could do was play the song he was planning on playing for her that night.

Returning to reality, Elvee had to realize that everything came to an end. Elvee never got to play his song for her, at least in this world that is. It had traumatized Elvee, for everything he had once had was now gone. He couldn’t even talk. He couldn’t explain his situation to anyone, even if he was able to approach someone without them running from him. Everyone in the town knew Elvee, yet the sight of him as he is now was probably too much for them to bear, so they tried to avoid him. The sadness encircled him infinitely, yet Elvee had wanted to keep his promise, and play the song for the town on the night of the festival. The world would hear his song as well, and feel sympathy as to his unfortunate life here.

Elvee lifted the violin and bow and began to play a beautiful song. It had a feeling that it could rewind time all on its own. The feel of the song was so moving Elvee himself began to weep tears. “My love” Elvee thought. “I’ll play this song forever, if it’s for you.” Elvee continued to play the song over and over again as the moon crept closer and closer to him. Eventually, the moon did wipe out life on the planet. All that was left surprisingly was the violin Elvee was playing, and a photo of Elvee and his love together. It was all over, but to Elvee, he could finally be with his love again…
