The Risers are a group of beings dedicated to the destruction of evil. Not a specific evil. Just evil. Evil is like a weed, once it had penetrated the surface, it spreads like a dandelion. Only evil is far more dangerous than a weed. Evil betrays, lies, deceives, and kills. It will betray you, lie to you when you find out, deceiving you into believing it was for the best. Then it kills you. But like with a weed, you kill the root and it won't come back, same with evil. At least, that is how the Risers see it. Kiaer is the Riser I would like to introduce to you now. He is a child by many standards and has the worst disposition of any child you have ever met. Supposedly. He is a sixteen year old who has decided that due to the lack of ability among his educators, he need not go to school since it was merely a waste of his time. His family and friends of his parents looked at him as the mistake that no one saw coming. As a child he had been sweet and loving, but as he grew older, he became more guarded, letting no one past his defenses. He is rarely seen anymore by those he grew up with and his absence is hardly noticed. No one ever asks where Kiaer is anymore because they soon learned that no one ever knew and when they did, Kiaer was hardly welcoming. No, Kiaer is no longer missed by those who knew him once as the loving child who rarely ever cried and never got angry. But he was not the strange, hateful, dark monster they had created him to be in their imaginations. He was a foreigner who had always been out of his element in this world. At the age of fourteen (“the year he got so nasty,” said one particularly opinionated neighbor.) Kiaer found a rift in the sheet that is the barrier that separates reality from myth. See, when there is a rift like this, myth and reality become mixed and it is impossible to discern one from the other. This happens every few hundred years or so (for who knows what reason) and when it does, impressively accurate things come about in this world (we find out later what comes about in the other world). Things like the pyramids were built, the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel was painted, and numerous books of myth were written with an uncharacteristic burst of ingenuity and engineering, and in the case of the books, unusual accuracy. When Kiaer found this rift he was walking on the beach.....
