The next morning Aly, Carmen, and I went down to breakfast. I took the vampire book. We all sat down at a table as they started to chat I ate a little and zoned into my own world. I couldn't believe I was locked well maybe not "locked" but in the library with a living, breathing vampire! It gave me chills just thinking about it, but that explained his aura and speed. I met a vampire, wow, even though he did say he would gladly kill me over a book. I flipped to the first page....
Introduction
'Vampires. The word gets tossed around in this day and age but they are not exactly what Hollywood makes them out to be. Garlic, crosses, and Holy Water do not affect these dark creatures, although they do need blood to survive and can burn if out in the sun long enough. They are sly and craftly, usually beautiful creatures who enjoy spending time with mortals(normally witches) who they think of as superior being...'
Hm, I thought, he didn't show signs of thinking that about me.
"Whatcha readin?" Carmen asked, as her and Aly slid into seats with their food.
"Just a book I picked out."
"On vampires?" Aly asked. I smiled
"I'm interested in them." Just Amun actually.
I knew I should've told them but how could I? They'd tell me not to see him or worse they would want to meet him I just kind of wanted him to be my secret...
Just then Ms. Lancer came by and dropped off our schedules, mine said...
Period 1: Dark Forces, Room 302. Prof. Moon
Period 2: Creatures, Room 510. Prof.Thread
Period 3: Potions, Dungeons, Room 102. Prof. Sky
Period 4: Sight-seeing, Room 618. Prof. Cross
Period 5: Power-class, fields. Prof. Claire
Hm, not too bad of a schedule. Aly and Carmen were already comparing theirs.
"Sweet, we have first and last classes together!" Carmen said. I handed them mine and waited only a minute before Carmen said we had Creatures and Potions in common. I had sight-seeing with Aly and all three of us had Power-class together. But I had Dark Forces alone...great.
After breakfast we all went ouside in the chilly November air and took a set in the courtyard by the fountain of the Goddess cupping her hands to the sky. Water was pouring around her making a soft, calming rush sound. More girls were starting to come out and talk to their friends, comparing schedules and whatnot.
"I really like it here," Carmen commented.
"Me too," Aly said. "I like that this is an academy but we don't wear uniforms."
"True." Carmen said.
I buried myself in vampire heaven. Learning that they had speed, smarts, and attraction to other's eyes, telepathy...did that mean he could read my mind? Know what I'm doing at all times?
The air around us shifted it was calm and peaceful but now it was lethal with a hint of danger. I looked up in time to see a superskinny witch flanked by two others walk up to us in an agitated way. I sensed danger and so did Camen and Aly. I put my book down and focused my powers, it was easy with the fountains behind us.
I read them. The leader was blonde with a cold expression, her name was Arlene and she was an Earthwitch but she wasn't a first year and neither were her brunette clones, Ashely and Sarah, both dumb and also Earthwitches. They knew Carmen and they hated her.
"Why Carmen?!" she said in a snobby voice. "What are you doing here? Don't you know mortal trash isn't allowed?" her clones giggled and Carmen's face went pink.
"She's not a mortal or trash, skank." Aly said. Arlene turned her cold, blue gaze on Aly who glared back defiantly.
"you better learn who your're dealing with, first year."
"She obviously doesn't know who we are." Sarah cooed.
"Their worst nightmares." Arlene hissed, pushing Carmen into the fountain, she screamed and grabbed Aly, dragging her down into the water with her. Arlene and her twins laughed loudly and I grounded my powers, raising my hands to see a huge blob of freezing water levitate then drop, soaking the Barbie's from head to foot. They screamed and glared at me as their makeup ran down their faces, Aly and Carmen got out of the fountain, powers ready.
Carmen's hands were covered with fire. Aly had wind circling hers and the Barbie's were glowing green. I hated them. That they thought they could just come up and do this to my friends. They could think again.
We were all aware of Mr. Groundell's eyes on us then so we powered down. I know I didn't want detention before school even started.
"This isn't over, witches." and with that, they all flipped their hair and walked off.
"Are you guys ok?" I asked, picking up my book.
"I'm freezing!" Aly complained.
"Who was that hoe?" Aly asked upstairs in our dorm after her and Carmen changed into dry clothes.
"That's Arlene, Ashley, and Sarah. Their kids of my parent's friends and their pure evil." Carmen scowled.
"why do they hate you so much?" I asked.
"Yeah," Aly cut in. "She obviously knows you."
" Her parents think flamewitches are better than Earthwitches, it's just jealousy." Carmen replied, closing her trunk. "She's a third year."
"You mean we have to spend three more years with them?" Aly growled.
"Hey," I said smiling. "We're smarter than them, this could be fun."
They looked at me skeptically as we went back downstairs and enjoyed the rest of our Arlene-free day.
