I didn't speak to Lucy for days. She didn't send any e-mails or give any calls. I know the perfect reason. Micheal is finally her boyfriend. She broke up with her ex, James, weeks ago. Lucy and Micheal seems happy to be in each other's company. I once thought he and I would be together, happy. I'm quite envious of Lucy. I wonder if our friendship will survive.
I still have Algebra with him. He still sits next to me. He tells me everything about his time spent with Lucy. Lucy did this. Lucy helped him with that. Lucy bought him something. He gives her absolutely nothing. She didn't want anything from him anyway. The conversation raves on. I look at him with false interest. I'm not interested in his relationship. Especially if it's with Lucy. I get up as the bell rings and head out the hall.
At home,I wrote nonstop on a story I was working on that was horribly relevant to my everyday problems. It started out like this:
She once met Prince Mike. Princess Luce ran away from the castle to visit her peasant friend,Veronica. They both decide to go to the ball to meet this Prince. Prince Mike saw Veronica and became her friend instantly. Princess Luce gets jealous and she asks Veronica to "share" the Prince. Veronica didn't do so,so Princess Luce gets her way and introduces herself to him, solo. They became happy, rich, have three kids
She couldn't write the rest.
Lucy finally calls the next day. She rambles on about school work, cheerleading tryouts, the Yearbook committee, the Social Studies Projects. Yes,it's the usual. The most unusual part of the conversation was the absence of Micheal as one of the Trophied Topics. When I finally hang up,I fall onto the mattress and deny my dinner when mom came up.
There's a new girl named Sophie in English class. She wears her blonde hair in a high ponytail. Her clothes are too short and thin and she brushes on a fair amount of make-up. She is pretty attractive,as some guys would gossip. For me,I thought of her as a complete sl**. I have another blonde friend, but she doesn't dress up and wears make-up. And maybe I'm misinterpreting this girl. Maybe she isn't a sl**. Maybe she's another outcast wanting to fit in as a new kid. I try to approach her,but she is too busy talking to Lucy's ex. James smiles down at her and grips her waist. I turn away.
Algebra is boring as usual. Lucy switched schedules and finally got herself in all of the same classes as Micheal. They sit next to each other, heads bent close, and whisper softly into each other's ears. I wonder what they whisper about. My heart feels broken just to watch them. I hurry out of class and didn't turn back.
I call Sophie's phone number at night with the number someone gave me at school. It was awkward to call someone that I barely knew. When Sophie picks up,we greeted and introduced ourselves to each other and discuss the school assignments and kids in class. She asks about James and I try to avoid the conversation, but it felt obvious. She tries to hang up when I said that he was not available. Then she asks me if I have a crush on him. I yell into the phone for a few seconds before she hangs up on me.
English class is horrible! Sophie is making a complete fool of me. Anyone would believe someone as innocent looking as her,in her short jeans and baggy red tank. She giggles and replays the record of the conversation we has last night and James glare at me as if I said something unpleasant about him. When the teacher came in,everyone fell quiet but amused looks came my way.
Micheal pushes my locker closed and leans towards me. I look at him and begin to walk away. I didn't want to get involved with someone I use to like but chose my friend over me. He calls after me and starts to tell me about his relationship with Lucy and how great their date was last night and wonders if I was okay. I look at him, tilt my head and smiled. I tell him I was okay.
Lucy calls again. I tried to make it short, but when I hang up on her,she just keeps calling me back. I got tired and tell her that I caught the flu and she allows me to rest.
Sophie is kissing James in the corner and everyone watches as if it was some kind of entertainment to watch hormonal, sick teenagers making out and touching each other. I stick out my tongue at them and edge to the farthest corner of the classroom as possible. Boys in front of me starts swooning over the way James made his hands inch up her loose shirt. I cry and and scream and they run back to their seats just as the teacher walks in and stares at me. She sends me to the principal's.
Lucy and Micheal overheard what happened and visits me in the office after the principal announced that I was just overreacting with the class behavior. I try to explain how Sophie was trying to make me look crazy but he just said that Sophie was an exceptional student in the Honor's Society and people in this Honor's Society wouldn't do such things. I explain this to Luce and Micheal and they start to conclude that I was overreacting.
James and Sophie starts dating and makes a fool out of me with the help of my classmates. They start to tease me and put on a show in front of the class. It was terrible. Once,I came too early and so did a few students and both James and Sophie started pushing each other around the class and making out on chairs, tables, desks, and even the teacher's desk. It was disgusting to watch. I needed to get out before I start yelling again.
In Algebra,Micheal sits next to me for Lucy isn't here. She's out sick. We talk about daily problems and schoolwork. Then,he brings up the topic about Sophie. He wants to know her in person. He tells me that he caught glimpses of her down by the beach in a strapless bikini and thought she looked hot. I roll my eyes. Then I remembered Lucy. I tell him and ask why he would want Sophie when he already has Lucy. He tells me and makes me promise not to tell Lucy about his plans. He wants to play a sport. He and James got together a few days ago and decided to hook up with random girls. I shake my head and tell him he is stupid and is a complete jerk!
Micheal,Sophie, and James get together again. This time however, things gets worse. Lucy came back this day and we both watched behind a tree in the park as the three put on a show that included two boys and one girl making out together. Then they started getting more serious and the details are then too inappropriate to define. Lucy cries and I comfort her. We are both broken deep inside.
