This is an excerpt from a story I’m working on. This is one of my favorite parts so far.
In this excerpt, Aria got a phone call from her legal guardian, Zach, in response to a message she left him earlier that day. It’s in Aria’s perspective. Enjoy!
“I gotta go, someone’s calling me.” I hung up with Ellie and picked up the other line.
“Hello?”
“Aria Marie Fitzpatrick, don’t you ever so that to me again.” It was Zach.
“Hey Zach, how are you?” I answered sarcastically.
“Not funny, Aria.”
“I got a chuckle out of it.”
“How bad is it? Did they send you to the hospital? Are you okay? How’d you get home? You remembered your key, right?” Zach looks like a father, but sorries like a mother.
“It’s not too bad. I just went to the nurse. I’m fine, except I have a headache. Yes, I remembered my key.” I answered.
“Who gave you a ride home?” Zach asks. I was hoping he wouldn’t notice I didn’t answer that question.
“Umm... I walked?”
“Nice try.” I sighed.
“Aria...” Zach prodded.
“I got a ride with a kid from school.” I finally answered.
“What’s his name?” Zach asks.
“Why do you assume it’s a boy?”
“Whenever you don’t want to tell me, it’s a boy.” Zach points out.
“Yeah, well....” I couldn’t finish that sentence.
“Usually at this point I start my interrogation, but I really have to go. I’ll call you later.” he says.
“Okay. Bye” I say, glad to avoid his famous interrogations even if it was only for a while.
“Bye.” he hangs up.
