The earsplitting noise cuts through the fabric of my eardrums and cakes my ears with thick pain. I grimace as I watch him raise his muscular arm in the air again, signaling the band to play. I try to brace myself for the glass shattering rock music about to erupt from the depths of the music room, but to no avail.

The noise comes in a deluge of extreme volume, no longer resembling a song. I can imagine the bright yellow lights above me exploding into tiny fragments of dying gold. The sound nearly peels the blue, mustard, and plum purple paint off the oddly textured walls. It almost erases the whiteboard, almost blows the molecules of aqua green marker away. But it doesn't.

As I feel my ears slowly melting away like an overused wax candle, I hear a shout muffled to a murmur by the noise, and the sound abruptly stops and the room becomes a quiet box full of chatter. I let out a sigh of relief. To my delight, I can hear myself exhale.
